My favorite video of theirs (from a live performance/concert) is PopSpring 2016, seriously my favorite! 3 amazing originals and a special evolution of video that I would love for you to be surprised by. The 2nd song Can’t Sleep Love is my favorite, specifically from that performance. It’s a 15 minute video, but I promise we will all watch every moment of it!
When listening to each most notable version, the most common agreement about the emotions provoked & the choices made, are as such; Simon & Garfunkel- Warned us Disturbed - Got angry we didn't heed the warning Pentatonix- Have hope we will still prevail
Probably the classic "Mitch Slap" is a fan-recorded video of their performance of Imogen Heap's "Aha" at the Star Vista in Singapore during one of their world tours. Since the video maker was a Mitch fan, and "Aha" is a "Mitch song" where he's the featured soloist throughout, the video is mostly zoomed in on him, but it's an iconic moment in Pentatonix history. And in the intro/lead-in to the song, Avi hits some insane low notes that damaged the speakers (at least the woofers) as the bass line sounds fuzzy from there on out.
As far as a "Mitch slap" moment, I would have to go with "The Prayer". In my opinion, besides just being a beautiful song, it's one long Mitch slap. (And Scott and Kirstie. Lol) As always, Kevin and Matt lay down a wonderful foundation. I'm enjoying your channel. Keep up the great work 👍
Great reaction. Many of us agree that S&G was a warning and Disturbed was more disappointment, sadness and condemnation. We also all tend to think that Pentatonix provides a more hopeful and optimistic feel, which is unsurprising, since that is their vibe. If you want more Kirstin, I suggest their covers of "Amazing Grace," "Shallow," and "Say Something," as well as their original songs, "Be My Eyes," and "Water." There is no official video for "Water," but I always love to recommend their "Popspring 2016" live concert video that includes three original songs, (one of which is my favorite version of "Can't Sleep Love," which is a great song, too). Popspring also includes their phenomenal "Evolution of Michael Jackson." The quality of the video is excellent since it was recorded and distributed by MTV, so it's not a fancam.
I agree! As a fellow Kirstie fan, those are all excellent examples of her being featured (and you can watch the progression as she grew from very good in the early days to absolutely amazing in their newer work). "Water" is probably my favorite track from their first Originals album "Pentatonix", and her verse in "Amazing Grace" gives me goosebumps every time. Another one that's a big one for her is the video for "Seasons of Love" that they did for a PBS holiday special, she slays it in that one, especially in her higher register.
Maybe not a Mitch slap per se, but you will be amazed at his talent in Problem by Ariana Grande and Scott’s talent in Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Additionally, there are too many to mention in their Superfruit videos (an offshoot of just Scott and Mitch which is now defunct).
My younger sister, back in the 60's, talked my parents into letting her get Simon & Garfunkel's album. This was during the Vietnam War and my Baptist Church actually allowed our youth group to perform this song at the evening service. Always brings back mixed feelings.
Mitch: The Prayer, Superfruit’s (Scott and Mitch duo project) Empire Medley, Aha! Singapore Star Vista, Come Along, Problem, and Can You Feel the Love Tonight? to name a few favorites. Kirstin: O Holy Night, The Prayer, Amazing Grace, Prayers For this World, Can You Feel the Love Tonight?, Rather Be, Shallow and Prayers for This World to name some favorites. You need to get to their Evolution videos. They will blow your socks off 😁: Michael Jackson, Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Music.
You must react to "Imagine". I have never heard a better cover of this song. PTX really does it well. The wall of sound is so beautiful and will bring you goose bumps. Plus, the message in the song is so on point. Shows we all have things in common while being individuals at the same time. Just pure beauty. I think you will really like this one and can relate to it as well. Great reaction as always!! You never disappoint. Thank you!! Hope you are doing well. Sending you love from Texas!!❤❤❤
As you know, "Sound of Silence" was originally sung by Simon and Garfunkel, an American folk rock duo in the 1960s. It was written by Paul Simon, and they first released it in October, 1964. In the 60 years since then, it has been covered by numerous bands and singers, including both Disturbed and #Pentatonix. Disturbed released their cover first; in many ways Pentatonix's version is a response to Disturbed. There has been much speculation about the meaning of "Sound of Silence." Because it was released shortly after President Kennedy's assassination, many people thought it was about that. Some people think that Paul Simon foresaw the internet. Some people think it's set in the aftermath of a global catastrophe, either nuclear war or climate change; this is apparently the view of Disturbed. But Paul Simon did talk about this, and here's what he had to say: "…we have people unable to touch other people, unable to love other people. This is a song about the inability to communicate." However, since so many people hear the song as a warning of planetary disaster, the best version comparison I've heard goes like this: Simon and Garfunkel warned us. Disturbed is angry that we didn't heed the warning. And Pentatonix says that it isn't too late - we can still save the planet if we're willing to make the effort. Is Pentatonix right? I don't know. But I'm *certain* that if we just give up we lose, so I'm with Pentatonix on this one. If they're wrong and it's already too late, at least we'll go down fighting for our planet, and that beats the heck out of the only other option I see, writing an angry suicide note.
Favorite Mitch slap? That's a hard one; there are so many. The best I can do is narrow it down to three songs (songs, not moments, because I don't want to provide spoilers): 1. Their 12th performance on _The Sing-Off,_ "The Dog Days Are Over," by Florence and The Machine. However, it's still best to watch _The Sing-Off_ performances in order, which makes the Mitch slap in the 12th performance even more powerful. 2. "Bohemian Rhapsody" contains at least three Mitch slaps, as well as an Avi-lanche, a KO, and a Great Scott!, not to mention Kirstin taking a running leap onto a sofa _while wearing heels,_ and some of the most creative visual effects they've ever come up with (official video). 3. "The Prayer." Additionally, I think it's time we introduced you to SuperFruit. SuperFruit was composed of Mitch and Scott, during the years when they were living together; it's also the name of the UA-cam channel they ran during those years. youtube.com/@sup3rfruit They used the channel as a weekly vlog, and SuperFruit released two albums, named "Future Friends" (1 and 2, respectively) and posted the official videos to the channel. Almost everything on the channel is funny - the two exceptions are a cover of Katy Perry's "Rise" that they performed with three friends (all members of the LGBTQ+ community), in response to the Pulse massacre in 2016, and "The Promise," from February 14, 2019; it was the last thing they posted to the channel. Except for official videos, if it's on SuperFruit and it's funny, stick around past the obvious end of the video for the blooper reel. One outstanding video on the SuperFruit channel is named "FROZEN MEDLEY (feat. Kirstie Maldonado)," and it contains a moment that's almost a reverse Mitch slap.
Be My Eyes is an original of theirs that she takes the lead in. Definitely worth checking out. Hope you react to it. Others have mentioned The Prayer, well, that one is absolutely beautiful! Hope you do that one as well.
I was a big Simon & Garfunkel fan back in the day, and loved this song from them. I also love both the Pentatonix and Disturbed covers, for very different reasons. PTX, as usual, has those amazing harmonies, and as others have noted, make it a hopeful and beautiful song. Disturbed captures the darkness of the lyrics better than any version I've heard, and David Draiman's powerful, emotional vocals are so iconic. Really can't go wrong with any of the three.
Enjoyed this! You've only just begun to experience all they can do! Others have given some good suggestions. Agree with the Popspring 2016 live performance. It includes 4 songs. Some reactors do the whole thing in one video (performance is 15-16 minutes), others break it up and just do each song individually. Also agree with Amazing Grace, they each get moments to shine. Can You Feel the Love Tonight has some great Mitch moments! An older one that showcases Kirstin is Rather Be, video was filmed in Tokyo. Another Kirstin lead is My Favorite Things (some put this in the category of Christmas, and it was on one of their Christmas albums, but it really has nothing to do with Christmas--was from The Sound of Music). I would also suggest at some point looking at each of their solo music. All except Matt have put out solo recordings of some sort. Mitch's music is under the name Messer. Kevin has a lot of wonderful things on his channel. Kirstin put out an album in 2017. Scott released an EP titled Parallel in 2023, and has put out a number of singles since then. One of his singles, Rose Without the Thorns, is nominated for a Grammy. We'll find out in February if he wins or not! One of the things that Scott seems to enjoy is putting out several versions of his original songs that have very different feels to them. It could make an interesting reaction to listen to 2-3 different versions that he does of the same song and compare, contrast.
Welcome to the Rabbit Hole. Each and Every member is totally uniquie and Amazing. There's sooooo many different songs to suggest. With most people, Mitch is their favorite. May I suggest that you actually start with Kevin (the Beat Boxer). To hear his story in Soctt's own words, please check out Kevin's Fifth from the Christmas 2021 or 2022.
I have loved the original & this version. They usually call covers by pentatonix, upgrades because they make the song their own. I have enjoyed your reactions. One reactor that went down this rabbit hole had over 200 videos, it is an awesome rabbit hole. I always love watching their upgrades for imagine & bohemian rhapsody. The originals that I love are sing, happy now & water.
If you want more of Kirstie’s belting, react to Amazing Grace and Love Me When I Don’t which she wrote. My fave Mitch slap is definitely 90s Dance Medley.
The Disturbed version is dark and intense - this one is more hopeful - they are both outstanding versions of a timeless song. Waving from DeLand. This is a live performance with both covers and original songs - every one of them shine. ua-cam.com/video/7GMHqYxpnzk/v-deo.htmlsi=ghITi6ooA6-H0bvM

Please react to Pentatonix popspring performance 2016 you get three original songs and Kirsty gets a solo on one, and you also get the evolution of Michael Jackson. They chose to sing this one in a very low key, as Scott makes obvious immediately. It's a bit disconcerting when we hear Mitch so much lower than his preferred range, but given that his total range is just over 6 octaves it didn't present any real challenges for him. @@bill.godwin-austen Oh yes, good catch! I briefly thought I'd mention that one, too, but got caught up in describing Popspring and then forgot, lol!
Definitely agree that the Disturbed cover did not suit the song.
@@ezekielchalker6629 I wouldn’t say that! It was a very moving different interpretation
My favorite Mitch Slap came in their version of Amazing Grace. He belts it and I live for his voice. Just Amazing
It is on the list! I’m looking forward to it. Thanks!

I second ALL of these!
their cover of Elton Johns "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" Really well done, and a true "sneaks up on you" Mitch slap.
I love Kirstin Voice, you hear her belt in Oh Holly night, and Amazing grace, and the live versión of Sesons of love, she sing very well in bote

O our beloved Pentatonix. Never gets boring no matter how much I listened to their music. Great reaction as always. Greetings from South Africa

Listen to: Be My Eyes, Say Something and Amazing Grace for more Kirsten strong vocals.
You have got to react to "Bohemian Rhapsody" which is a classic with Mitch on lead for most of the song!
Disturbed was so dark that it felt evil to me. I tried a few times to listen to it but never could last through the whole song.

Happy new year to you and family from john b UK Nottingham
Pretty please do 'Kissed by a rose' cover by Pentatonix.
They really make it their own.
I get three diff intentions - Simon and Garfunkel were in anguish. Disturbed was angry. OTX was somewhat forward looking, hopeful.
I love kiss from a rose live Vevo pentotonix
14 PTX? you only have 236 to go LOL!!! I don't think I've heard a bad version of this song; Paul Simon is simply a word smith. Kirstie is the lead in My Favorite things, Rather Be, others mention by others. She also has some of her own out(they all do) "Break a Little", "Bad Weather", and Naked to name a few. I always forget no instruments.
Listen to pop spring 4 songs 3 of them r originals and kirstie singing water one of my favourites.
Recommend their original, Love Me When I Don’t.
For some good Kirstin vocals and a Mitch slap, check out Come Along or Can You Feel The Love Tonight.
Please react to Pentatonix popspring performance 2016 you get three original songs and Kirsty gets a solo on one, and you also get the evolution of Michael Jackson. And Mitch does give you a little surprise. Lol It's so fun to watch.
A great Mitch slap you want to watch," aha! Singapore, the Star Vista
They chose to sing this one in a very low key, as Scott makes obvious immediately. It's a bit disconcerting when we hear Mitch so much lower than his preferred range, but given that his total range is just over 6 octaves it didn't present any real challenges for him. My guess is that the choice of key was meant to enable Matt's lovely bass drop in the third verse.
Do their last years version of O Holy Night you will hear her soar!!
Already did that one
PTX😊❤
I think you would like to react to “Todd Hoffman’s” (From Gold Rush ) version of Sound of Silence. It made tear up. 🌺
❤❤❤❤❤❤
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Not a big fan of this one and I normally love them. It was much too forced, high notes toward the end.
