Just as a disclaimer I don’t pretend to have all the answers and I don’t fault the people that disagree with me. I’m already aware that the “don’t say gay” bill doesn’t actually say the word gay but it does mention sexual orientation and gender identity each twice. I agree we shouldn’t be talking about sex in 3rd grade. But the teachers I bonded with the most were always the ones who made an effort to have a personal connection with the class. Teachers shouldn’t be spending lots of time diving into their personal lives, but I believe they should be able to talk about loved ones back home freely regardless of their sexual orientation.
The video on my patreon had issues uploading and I’m on vacation in Utah right now so I won’t be able to fix it till after the 28th when I get home, sorry about the delay!

Socially advanced European countries formally do educate about sex as soon as kids hits school. Why? Because knowledge is empowerment. Empowerment keeps you safe.
Kids know gender before they can speak and you know those coy parental questions that kids can have and that they show, denying them knowledge for their level of comprehension is detrimental and to tell lies about life is worse.
Educating is NOT taking their innocence away, but will go a great distance to stop abuse if it occurs. They learn about behaviour norms, to consider another. Equality.
This essential right has to be taken out of complete parental control as when ignorant, it is perverse in those.
You have an governmental curricula for education-standardisation for all subjects, otherwise society falls into a heap of prejudice and achieves nothing.- Just look at the religious countries? Nobodies, in that they use other peoples' knowledge but don't make the advancements. Mired.

the florida bill stipulates K-3 but doesn't stop there. If you read the bill language it goes further than that. “in kindergarten through grade 3" is what we hear about BUT it goes on to say "or in a manner that is not age appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.” This sentence leaves prosecution open beyond the grade of 3 and is sort of the proverbial "wolf in sheep's clothing" that extends the possibility of action against teachers beyond the 3rd grade.

I am touched and amazed by the governor's response. He laid a lot on the line to say that. I don't know much else about him, but if nothing else, I admire the courage of his convictions to speak so well to the topic and try to do what he felt was right instead of what would appease his constituency. I pray we all learn to put love before party.

One day a man was walking along the beach, when he noticed a boy hurriedly picking up and gently throwing things into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “Young man, what are you doing?” The boy replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.” The man laughed to himself and said, “Don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make any difference!”
After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said,
“I made a difference to that one.”

Many of your prior videos have been heartfelt and emotional for a variety of reasons but, for me, this one is at the top of the list - which says a lot given the high quality content that you have consistently provided.
Like most gay men I have been following the Don’t Say Gay bill and similarly hateful legislation that has sadly either been passed or is pending in far too many states. The volume of cruelty, name calling and vicious lies that has been posted on social media on a daily basis in recent months (and appears to be escalating largely due to Desantis and Abbott) has been disheartening and infuriating. I continue to believe that the number of decent, compassionate people far outnumber the bad but the extreme rancor of the vocal haters makes me doubt that at times.
Thank you so much for addressing this important topic - and doing so with such eloquence and genuine emotion. You’re not the only one who has gotten emotional, believe me - which shows that you care and have a kind heart (as all of your longtime followers already know).
Thank you for the considerable time that you obviously spend in making these vlogs and for continuing to brighten our lives with all your videos, which do not go unnoticed or unappreciated. Keep taking care of yourself and thanks for being you! 🌈❤️

I am a mental health counselor in the Florida school system who happens to be lgbtq plus along with belonging to another minority group. the Florida law not only prohibits talking about same sex relationships and issues from kindergarten the third grade. it also states that I'm not allowed to have conversations that are not developmentally appropriate. the problem is nowhere in the does it Define developmentally appropriate. I've had six years of education and two master's degrees dealing with education and development so I know scientifically what the term means but those short-sighted trolls of a a republican legislature have no f****** clue. I've even had fellow teachers in my family say how does it affect you? you deal with 11 through 18 year olds? for those who don't know it affects me in that if a parent deems I have been developmentally inappropriate with their child I can now be sued and fired. I swear if I can afford to I f****** quit. I'm so angry. I had to fight so long and so hard for everything. and I realized that those who have come before us had it harder. I'm just so tired. and I'm nearly broken to be honest. the only thing that's keeping me sane is knowing increasingly I am a safe space for a lot of those kids and if I leave who will they have? I don't mean to sound so self-important because I'm not. I'm so tired friend so tired. I'm done

Thank you for the views from Mt Bonnell on the west side of town. RM 2222 is such an awesome drive and pretty much most of west Austin. I used to work at River place and the views from there were spectacular. Also, thank you very much for the support of Ukraine. It is my understanding that there are Russians who are spreading propaganda about the Nazis. When I heard about the do not say gay bill and that it was for k thru 3rd grade I thought to myself why would anyone even have such a conversation at that age. I know that I did not when I was young. But I will say that my mother gave me a book about the birds and the bees in third grade. Also, I started to hear the F word in 4th grade. These laws are more about republican politicians who are bracing themselves against their republican competition and thus are preaching to their homophobic base. Lets face it most Republicans are brainwashed to not like us and that is fine as I do not have hang around them. What they cannot do is take our rights away from us. Already this year there were two supreme court transgendered cases that were heard in the preliminary stages and on both cases the courts sided with the transgendered individuals 9-0. The big case that will be formally heard is the one that allows religious business owners to discriminate against lgbt people. Per Federal law, when a business opens their doors to the general public, they cannot discriminate against anyone. This will be a truly interesting case that is being heard by a very ultra conservative court. I agree on how the conservatives want nothing more than to toss us under the bus but as long as we keep our heads high, we will continue to win. As former pres. Obama said, no matter who you are or where you come from, what you look like or what religion you practice, you are treated equally under the eyes of God and you are treated equally under the eyes of the law. Thank you for posting.

School children are "other people's kids". Many in the Gay community ask for respect but have a hard time giving it to others. Respect Parents ! Respect that these issues, relationships, religion, sex, race, etc. are best left to parents to be involved with their children and educate their children in their views, values and understanding of issues. The 3 R's (reading, wRiting and aRithmatic) are pretty much what educators should be teaching. Educators, especially in higher grades/ages, can share their personal insights but should always defer to parents as the arbitrator, the final educator. As children age, 14, ... 16+ ... 18, (21, 25?) they can make up their own decisions based on their own values, faith and family.

However ... when they found out this would include the use of female locker rooms, showers and bathrooms -- especially those with school age females -- they were concerned. When males began playing on female teams, winning then receiving scholarships, awards, etc. thus preventing female athletes from the scholarships, etc. they became more concerned to say the least.

I’m sorry, but that’s not what the bill says. It says that public schools can’t teach sexuality to children gay straight or what ever. It also never mentions anywhere that you can’t say gay. Young children do not need to be thought any kind of sexualized material. Teachers regardless of the sexual orientation, gender identity should not be discussing personal or sexual matters with their students, especially young children. I’m gay and I would never discuss sexual matters with my young nieces or nephews. This is about the sexualization of prepubescent children. They should be worrying about their ABC’s, spelling, math, and learning socialization skills not learning any sexualized or gender specific material. Children should be taught to respect each other and to be tolerant of other people. That simple. It doesn’t have to be sexualized or made specific to any subject.
Being as this is a written response many of my views may not translate well to text. Damn my dyslexia.

I am gay and 100% support not discussing sex, gender theory, or anything around that topic in K-3rd grade. Honestly the only time this should be discussed at any point in school is when puberty hits, which should be limited to changes to your body in 5-6th grade and then safe sex education later around 8-9th grade. Aside from those basic topics, I don’t see why government employees should be trusted to shape the minds of children.

Yeah but we all understand what Joe's getting at. Plus what harm would come if those youth mention their gay uncle whose at home...because its fact & their family explained it to their kids at home & those kids don't need to be yelled at by school teachers for learning LGBT definitions ahead of their peers at home. Don't pick on Joe's post.

Exactly, we shouldn’t allow the government to decide what beliefs to instill in children, especially those that are not approved by parents. I’m gay, but I’m not going to conflate equal rights with pushing an ideological agenda in schools.
