    The only must that I would add as a glasses wearer, is that if you are setting up a guest room PLEASE include a small table or shelf on both sides of the bed even if you personally don't want such things. It makes it harder for me to sleep knowing that my glasses are lying on the floor beside the bed or on a flat surface somewhere else in the room.

      Being a former optician, I completely agree! I cannot count how many pairs of eyeglasses I've fixed because of glasses being on the floor, or placed on the bed! Don't ask me why, but you could have the biggest bedroom or the biggest bed, but those few inches where your glasses are is where someone will step or sit on them!)

      Yes, my guest room is very tight, but I put 2 little sconce/shelves on one side of the bed (and there's a nightstand on the other side). It doesn't take up any floor space and looks cute.

    The one time the under bed storage backfired on me: When we got moved for work we were lucky enough to have movers pack us up. Awesome! When we got everything delivered to the new place, I was directing people and a guy approaches me all smug and asks me "where do you want this box?" It was labeled "Master Bedroom toys." I was bewildered, somewhat mortified, and had a bunch of movers giving me side eye. Later I opened it up and realized it was Christmas books and stockings that I'd stored under the bed. 😂

I was working alone so I didn't have a colleague at hand to ask, and the schedule was very tight so I was stressed, so I ended up just putting it on top of the bed like I usually would with stray socks and other under-the-bed debris. After that I had to switch customers with one of my colleagues so that they'd be cleaning the buttplug house instead ^^;

    My 8 y/o son and I have lived in a 300sf tiny house for 5 1/2 years. It’s basically one room with a bathroom. So the kitchen, living room, and bedroom are one room. I’ve been forced to break every design rule. Especially as we’ve outgrown it for the last 3 years while I’ve searched for the perfect house. Well, I found the perfect house this week, and my offer was accepted last night. And magically your videos appeared in my UA-cam feed. Fifteen years ago I was really into home design. But now I’m out of touch with it. So I’m really enjoying your videos. In a couple months we’ll have actual bedrooms again. Yay!

      When I moved into where I'm at, I got it as-is from a relative who passed, and there were two large hutches full of fancy dishes! One from a Japanese company featuring silver edges and pink wild roses (my favourite flower), and the other is the well known Old Country Roses from Royal Albert (clearly the more expensive set, but there's also more of the pieces to it, including light switch plates and a few placemats I didn't even know came in the design). I managed to fit both sets, with some nice glasses, into one hutch to use the other for displaying my musical instruments. I don't use them when it's just me alone, but it feels good to have people over for holidays or birthdays and bring out fancy dishes, to have something other than the stained, chipped, old standard ones, and use the design of the dishes to enhance the decor. I have some floral themed artwork on the dining room walls, and it goes well together. I grew up with very minimalist dishes, but my grandparents would use real silver for an annual family dinner, and they had nice crystal serving dishes and such, so the idea of using your best when people come over is something I really appreciate.

    When my grandparents got married in the 50s, they bought a 17 piece set of furniture. They didn't use it their whole lives. A lot of the pieces ended up in storage over the years, but my husband and I ended up getting it (which was super important for my grandma). People have dribbled on about the risk of that falling down while you're asleep, but that sucker is up there strong and stationary, and the remote control lamps throw a killer pattern on the wall above the headboard. As for aggressive colors, we have some lush, saturated green walls to help us mentally survive northern winters. The entrance to the house is lush green and one huge wall in front of our stationery bike is the same. It's more intense than what people normally use but we don't get tired of it because it's mostly in the area that we quickly pass through or on a bike that we mostly use in winter for indoors exercise. And our brains get REALLY tired of winter up here, we crave that green like crazy.

I moved the bedroom furniture from the larger master bedroom and put it in the second bedroom where it is much smaller, more quiet, darker, and isolated from the rest of the home. I just sleep in there. Now the master bedroom is the multi purpose room. I have exercise equipment, food storage, TV area, and a sewing corner. I restored all the wood myself so it feels like I really customized my space. Larger pieces are all similar wood tones. Color theory is the understanding that color is relative and that the context/setting/surrounding colors directly affects how we perceive colors. Think about optical illusions where there’s 2 seemingly differently colored dots inside differently colored squares but turns out the dots are the same color. This is color theory; literally just how the wavelength of light can be perceived differently

      As long as you don't bring in any creepy dolls you are good 😂😂😂😂.
      In all seriousness though, I've been there. If you can repaint the room, something that will be grounding and nurturing. Buy yourself some new bed linen, a new rug etc. It feels very luxurious having a centred bed all to yourself. I pushed my bed against a wall when I left my first marriage and it felt lonelier, like I was 15 again. I truly hope your bedroom becomes the sanctuary you can enjoy and feel safe and nurtured in. Upside you now don't have to somehow incorporate their design taste now. 😂

      I am a single lady that moved my bed into a corner with no headboard. It fits my lifestyle because I like to spend time reading and watching TV in bed. The real reason I moved my bed into the corner is because my dog has seizures and I have tile floors. She sleeps next to the wall and I don't have to worry that she is going to fall out during a seizure and get hurt. She has to sleep with me for the same reason, so I can care for her if she seizes in the middle of the night. I love the way my room looks, even with the bed in the corner. I spend a lot of time here because I enjoy it so much.

    Regarding "aggresive colors", some bedrooms aren't necessarily used only for sleeping (for younger people their bedroom often doubles as a study room, play room or both) and some locations have these things called built-in blinds. When you're going to go to sleep in absolute darkness, the colors of the room don't matter so much: it's all black. As I live in one of those locations, I color the bedroom according to its daytime use.

    A full-size bed in a small to medium apartment is just right. It’s 6” narrower than a Queen and sometimes uses the same size coverlet as a Queen. The sheets are cheaper than larger sized beds and it’s easier to make up each morning. The rug underneath can be a bit smaller too.

      I have a full-size bed in my guest room. I thrifted a duvet that's twin sized and laid it horizontally across the bed. It really looks nice. I don't have to tuck it behind the footboard either. Although disclaimer, the bed is a four poster that is abour 2 feet off the ground, so the duvet hangs down without touching the floor.

      I wish I could afford a much smaller bed than my king. Alas, I am on disability. I live in a two bedroom cottage with a footprint about the size of a two car garage's. What I had to do was, since I live alone, shove my monster bed against the far corner of the ten by ten foot bedroom. I think it makes the room look a tad bigger. I also have a pleated camel dust ruffle covering the bed's ugly metal frame. Since the dust ruffle matches the wood floor it makes the room look larger still. I have just enough space left for a good sized nightstand, a long MCM dresser & mirror and my closet door. The bed is covered with an inexpensive white Ikea duvet and pillow covers. My only sin is I painted the room a leafy green but I like the healing color.

I had the fancy curtain rods for both the closet and big window to the ceiling. I have a hardwood floor in a lighter walnut that warms up the space, however the clincher is there is still a boob light on the ceiling haha 😂 but I have a hanging fixture picked out, I’m just waiting for the price to drop on wayfair and I need a runner rug for beside the bed, the furniture pieces are antique I’ve added some glam accents 🥰

One comment on those super-high headboards: I have very high ceilings in my bedroom, so I could accommodate a very high headboard; *however*, what I've noticed is that this tends to dwarf my triple dresser.
