Yeah, too many channels with $60,000 truck with a $15,000 suspension, $5,000 in tires, $5,000 roof racks and tents, $5,000 in solar panels and batteries to power $3,000 in lights and a freezer.

@@jeffreypark nonsense. Not even a king suspension costs that much. A good tent costs 500-600 dollars. Why do people make this so hard. Is this a deficit in some people’s intellect? I have no other explanation. Get a fucking tent and normal camping gear. Get a roof rack and a cargo back and stuff it in there. Then on the bed put your tools and whatever else you need. Done. No one needs all the fucking overlanding gear for a camping trip. Like a 6000lbs heavy truck with 35s. All nonsense.

Hey chloe, i think this is the way to go not only if you are camping on a budget but if your truck is your daily driver, with all the stuff mounted on the rack (bed or roof or both) you cant really go everywhere or keep mounting and unmounting everything and everytime you are out on the street. Love your tent, got one myself and works great. Keep it up!

I too, modify my 2019 Tacoma slowly as money permits. I drive a 2019 Tacoma SR 4X4 Long Bed. With my truck being the SR (base model) it is like working with a blank canvas. I really do love my truck. Why? It meets ALL my needs. I'm looking to buy a 1980's Toyota truck 4X4 to refurbish, however these trucks, in good condition, cost almost as much as a new truck. I feel my search for a good truck at a reasonable price will be a long one. I really like your truck as well.

That power bank is a must have. Even if your not camping. Everyone who has a vehicle should have one. I bought one after I went camping with a friend and his battery died. Even for road trips in case your battery dies in the middle of no where. I have a DBPower's highest rated unit. I would also suggest a air pump and some sort of tire patch kit in case you get a puncture.

Thanks for the blindingly good guidance you always share. Here's a coupla hopefully helpful thoughts on this topic: Of course it's important to gauge your needs and equip accordingly. Lots of extreme back-country winter activities in Northern NM, Colorado and Northern VT made the tent and air mattress concepts unworkable for me.
I bought an ARE MX bed topper, which can be equipped with a roof rack for gear (or a roof tent) and is totally blizzard/deluge/hail proof. It also provides a bit more protection from lions and tigers and bears, oh no!
Yeah, it's price point is quite a bit more than that nice very cool tent, but it also serves to provide a bit more security for gear. Some folks don't like the look of Toppings on their Taco, but imho the MX looks sharp and in addition to the other bennies mentioned adds some useful weight over the back wheels to enhance traction in the snow.
I also prefer to use memory foam type sleeping pads, a 2.75"er and a 1"er together are super comfy. Stowed they do take up more space, fer sure, HOWEVER, and I speak from experience, there's always a puncture risk and, even worse, single digit or sub-zero nights and blow up mattresses DO NOT like each other.
In very cold temps the vinyl compound in the mattress gets stiff, rigid, hard, brittle, and... shatters. Irreparably. Suddenly you're sleeping on a hard, cold deck and all your snowboard buddies with memory foam who crashed in the lot to get 1st tracks with you on a pow day are saying, "Word, dude, sux to be you."
Also, the air mattresses get annoying for some because they can be a bit like you're living on a kids' birthday party inflatable moon walker. This is especially true if you're sharing space with a partner. The foam strategy is every bit as comfy, and gives a bit more peace of mind.

2nd gen 🌮 owner here... living in Colorado, one gadget that is useful is a cellphone signal booster. There's a company based out of St George UT called WeBoost that makes a wide array of devices. The cheapest setup is $200 but it'll greatly improve your cell coverage. I have them in both my personal & company trucks and I was able to call 911 in a dead zone when i had pulled up to a scene of an accident.

Not sure if you had the tent fully set up or was just up for display purposes but you can get rid of that sagging and buckling in the front of the tent if you pull the orange straps with the buckle on the end into the truck bed and connect it to the hooks in the bed. Pull that tight and it will make the tent tot (not saggy or wrinkly) which makes the front higher and flush with the top of the bed and easier to zip open/close
