Moses (Charlton Heston) besets Egypt with a plague that turns the Nile River into blood.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on the Holy Scriptures, with additional dialogue by several other hands, The Ten Commandments was the last film directed by Cecil B. DeMille. The story relates the life of Moses, from the time he was discovered in the bullrushes as an infant by the pharoah's daughter, to his long, hard struggle to free the Hebrews from their slavery at the hands of the Egyptians. Moses (Charlton Heston) starts out "in solid" as Pharoah's adopted son (and a whiz at designing pyramids, dispensing such construction-site advice as "Blood makes poor mortar"), but when he discovers his true Hebrew heritage, he attempts to make life easier for his people. Banished by his jealous half-brother Rameses (Yul Brynner), Moses returns fully bearded to Pharoah's court, warning that he's had a message from God and that the Egyptians had better free the Hebrews post-haste if they know what's good for them. Only after the Deadly Plagues have decimated Egypt does Rameses give in. As the Hebrews reach the Red Sea, they discover that Rameses has gone back on his word and plans to have them all killed. But Moses rescues his people with a little Divine legerdemain by parting the Seas. Later, Moses is again confronted by God on Mt. Sinai, who delivers unto him the Ten Commandments. Meanwhile, the Hebrews, led by the duplicitous Dathan (Edward G. Robinson), are forgetting their religion and behaving like libertines. "Where's your Moses now?" brays Dathan in the manner of a Lower East Side gangster. He soon finds out. DeMille's The Ten Commandments may not be the most subtle and sophisticated entertainment ever concocted, but it tells its story with a clarity and vitality that few Biblical scholars have ever been able to duplicate. It is very likely the most eventful 219 minutes ever recorded to film--and who's to say that Nefertiri (Anne Baxter) didn't make speeches like, "Oh, Moses, Moses, you splendid, stubborn, adorable fool"?

One of my all time favourite films. No CGI, just clever tricks, amazing sets and costumes and fantastic acting.
My family have the movie since I bought it from the new store that opened up since 2013. I don't know what's the stores name, but it's awesome.

My grandma had a thing for Yul Brynner. I remember watching this with her when I was about 15. Ramses says to Neferteri (Anne Baxter) "I shall take you in my bed and enjoy it. Whether you do or not is your own affair" And my nana says very quietly "Oh she'll be fine, I'm sure of it" and I'm like "Ooh Nana, stop"
He was first a God-fearing Solomon. Then he started worshipping false Gods and the One True God cursed him with baldness.😄
He’s incomparable. Exodus gods and kings Ramses I thought was good too
Outside of maybe Ben Hur, this is the only movie I know of where you can freeze frame any scene at any point throughout the film where it looks like it would make a great painting. Every pose, every camera angle, every single frame of this movie is perfectly done. The art direction is amazing.
Next time you watch it, just randomly pause it and you'll see what I mean.

Dannys99887 too much of chlorination actual things suggest that the water got so contaminated so paraoh used some special herbes chemical for purification which turned the water bloody red ...

The production designs on this film were fantastic. Take a look at that vase from which Rameses poured the water/blood. Gorgeous; and somebody had to design it.
Too bad the vase is all broken.

Generalization from fictional evidence is never a pathway to the truth.

The problem was why God had to waste so much time and spread so much misery by hardening the Pharoah's heart so often. It would have been much more efficient if he softened his heart instead.

I won't say this movie gave me nightmares as a child, but I was *not* ready to see it when I did.
The wispy fog fingers in front of the moon and the green fog on the ground gave me nightmares as a kid. I stil find that scene creepy

I must have been 8 or 9 the first time I saw this movie in the late 70s (even before there was cable). Usually I had a curfew of 8 or 8 thirty at that age, but my parents made an exception for this movie :)
