I remember it clear as day: Shawn and Angela were a horrible couple honestly... Angela hardly had her own opinions and was just feeding off of Topanga, she treated Shawn like crap a lot of the time. If GMW had the time to flesh out Shawn and Katy, they would have been the better couple, in 6 episodes, they had more chemistry than Shawn and Angela did over 6 seasons..

Katy seems to be too much of a goof, her personality would better fit with Eric not Shawn. Shawn and Katy don't seem compatible in any way. I think it's just a superficial thing with both of them, which tends to burnout quickly. Shawn and Angela was way deeper and way more compatible. But then again Shawn's relationship and plot in this show is about him and Maya and their relationship is deep, so I guess they have to force Shawn and Katy together.
I hated this episode tbh. Shawn and anglea were legendary. The writters made out like anglea just left him but boy meets world fans know that she left to be with her dad. The writters also we're claiming her appearance to ruin things for Shawn like a hurricane . Anglea was the only person Shawn ever loved and he clearly stills loves her. I just found it like they are throwing Shawn and anglea away

I have never seen Boy Meets World but I've seen clips of Angela and Shawn and they seem to be sooo much better that Shawn and Katie. It must be so frustrating for Shawngela shippers who have waited years for them to get a reunion and for it to end up like this. They're otp tbh
It was, especially since the break up between Shawn and Angela was mutual, because her father asked her to go to Europe with him, and Shawn was okay with it, telling her to go. She didn't up and abandon him, she was even unsure if she should go, and he told her too, so the way they had him acting towards her makes no sense.
THIS IS HOW IT SHOULD HAVE GONE.... Angela returns to give Shawn advice on moving on with Katy reassuring him that he will be happy and be a good father figure to Maya as he has doubts he could be a role model to Maya as he is too screwed up , according to him. She convinces him that she is happily married and ready to settle down with her partner. Topanga throws a big reunion party for her where she meets Riley and everyone else. She says her goodbyes and Cory runs after her thanking her for coming down and giving hope to Shawn, allowing him to move on from her and we find out that it was Cory who called her to talk to Shawn. They hug, then Cory returns to the party and we see her staring down at her wedding ring as she takes it off whispering 'Back to reality'. We learn that it was all a facade and that she is not at all married and is still in love with Shawn after all this time. Eventually, they should end up together. (Shawngela for life)
This first part of their reunion is very awkward.... Cory was the biggest fan of their relationship in BMW but he made it seem like her being there was a bad thing. This is what happens when writers try to make reunions happen. Most of the time, it's very badly written.

I think he was just looking out for shawn and not wanting his friend to spiral down after seeing her. saying all that, yes it's a weird, disneyfied scene that makes no sense. and I always wanted shawn and angela together but Katy doesn't bother me. just trying to make sense of it
He probably told the writer to do it like that. Cory is a trump supporter. Trina (Angela) came out and said him, Topanga, and Eric, were racist towards her. I'm not surprised she didn't get an apology from him.
I feel like I'd react like Corey too tho. (or, maybe halfway between Corey and Riley. I've had friends in a relationship. I've SAILED that ship. I've had one of those friends leave the other giving them no real closure, and a LOT of hurt feelings. I've known friends to move on by setting the feelings aside, only to have the situation re-arise and it shatter them like glass. I've always wanted to guard these friends or at least warn them when things are about to go a bit 'AAH'
I’m glad this show got cancelled. The way they dismissed Angela and Shawn relationship and they went through some heavy stuff. I would have liked it if Cory and Topanga separated and Shawn and Angela were the ones that made it work. They should have had Angela and Shawn help them work to get back together

Very sad for the writers have spoiled the story of Shawn and Angela. In my mind ever I imagined that one day she would return and would resume this beautiful love story. I hate it when they try to compare Shawn and Angela Cory and Topanga. Shawn and Angela are different, has a different relationship, but they loved each other really. Angela was and always will be the love of life of Shawn. The treatment of Angela this episode was ridiculous, just wanting to shut the mouths of Shawngela chargers, and push Shawn with Katy, the Maya. Shawn could be a father figure to Maya without spoiling Shawngela. I'll pretend that this episode never existed. For me, Shawn and Angela are together and will always be.
I've been watching Boy Meets World in order for the first time ever. I started 2 weeks ago, and I finished last night. Honestly, I liked Shawn and Angela, but I didn't get so attached to it the way longtime viewers did. I'm not saying their relationship was fake or forced or anything like that, what I am saying is that I didn't find their relationship all that engaging. Hell Angela as an individual character to me wasn't all that well developed. She was sassy, beautiful, feisty, and yes she did love Shawn, and yes she was his first stable relationship. I do think that prepared him for a lifelong commitment (marriage obviously). Now call me crazy, but I think a big part of why people loved Shawngela (as fans called it) had to do with the fact that it was one of the first interracial relationships to be seen on TV at the time. Again, maybe because I'm not a longtime viewer, but considering how in BMW, Shawn has said a total of 3 times to Angela that he wanted what Cory and Topanga had, and he said it again in the GMW episode, Girl Meets Upstate, I'm fine with Shawn being with Katy. I hope I was able to adequately explain my stance on this topic.

But gosh their chemistry on set was very great too. It seemed so real. And what was good is that they managed to compete with Cory and Topanga. Cory and Topanga were perfect, had a perfect relationship etc ... Shawn and Angela weren't. They both had issues. You could more easily relate. It was beautiful because even though they both didn't believe in love so much, they wanted to believe it because they loved each other. They wanted what Cory and Topanga had. Their relationship was based on listening and discussion. And then their meeting was really cute. She introduced him to new things without even speaking to him. In addition, they were so similar without being too much. They understood each other without even having to speak to each other. Anyway, what I wanted to say was that it's super cool that it's an interracial couple (because yes, that's it too) but it's not just that. And nostalgia speaks for some too.

Shyt Angela and Shawn in BMW was cool together and made it work while it was good, Shawn was the one really fuckn it up not in touch with his self or feelings off and on. Before Angie left with her dad. But when Shawn and Angie was on good terms, it worked and they looked so good together and played they parts with heart, fr.
How it should have gone: Both Maya parents leave and Shangela adopts Maya. I hate this part of the story. Shawn and Katy don't have any chemistry and we don't know what it is exactly that they like about each other. Shawn liked everything about Angela and still does. He likes her taste in music, her book of sonnets, her taste in lip gloss, her sense of humor...
A few things I noticed: 1. Shawn is wrong for saying that "he merely wanted what Cory and Topanga had" - at first, it was like that, but at the end, he wanted to marry Angela, and their love was real, not just some fad 2. Yes, Cory was kinda snubbing Angela, but he's Shawn's best friend, and in BMW it seemed like Angela broke Shawn's heart when she wanted to leave with her dad, so it's only natural that he's siding with his bf. But at the end of this scene (part 2/2) they gave each other a look as if Cory had known about her coming all along. Maybe to provide closure for Shawn. 3. Referencing BMW - I don't know who's fault it was - Shawn's for not being more assertive, or Angela's because she kept bringing up how happy she was to spend time with her dad Conclusion: GMW screenwriters botched their relationship badly. I won't treat anything on GMW as canon.
To be fair, in BMW, Shawn tells Angela to go with her dad, so it's not even a bad break up, it's them separating so she can spend time with him, which Shawn understood how important that was, especially since he recently lost his own father.
Actually Shawn broke Angela's heart and in BMW Cory was trying to get them back together while in other episodes trying to be better friends with Angela
The messed up part is that her dad he know and people sit here and criticize her for leaving like that but that’s her dad and she didn’t get to spend lotta time with him so in someways is understandable for her wanting to go with her dad I’ll be we got mad for her doing that but newsflash that is her fucking father relationships is not always guaranteed
I didn't like how they went about this story line either. I didn't like how they made it seem like Angela coming to visit was a bad thing. I understand that she "left" Shawn, but she had a good reason and they make it see like Cory and Shawn are incapable of understanding her reason. Now as far as the communication stuff in the years between BMW and GMW, I don't really know, but I just hate how they made Angela's reappearance seem negative. She was Shawn's first love and was a very close friend to Shawn, Topanga, and Cory. She deserved a little more than what she received with this reunion.
Idgaf, in my mind, Shawn and Angela ended up together and had a sweet little family of their own. Girl Meets World to me is like really badly written AU fanfiction.

This “reunion” was garbage. Why are Cory and Riley acting like Angela is some kind of home wrecker? Why wasn’t Topanga acknowledged? She was Angela’s best friend. Why is Angela styled like that? I heard Trina was mistreated by everyone on set during this episode (and the entirety of BMW as well). Riley and Maya really had no right to give opinions on a situation they were never involved in. Shawn could have still been a surrogate father to Maya without marrying her mother.
it was heartwarming to me at least to know that Katy's actress and Shawn's actor were nice to Angela's actress behind the set. Topanga's actress kept giving Angela's "cold stares" and never spoke to her. Danielle later apologized this year though
Shawn and Angela were completely necessary for television. At the time that BMW aired, there were hardly any interracial couples on television. For Shawn and Angela to exist at a time where couples like them hardly existed, and for them to have a legitimate love story on a wholesome television show like BMW, I can see why fans may feel that their reunion was very underwhelming. I'm happy for Maya and her mom. However, I wanted better for Shawn and Angela. Their relationship deserved more than this reunion. Hell, Cory/Angela and Topanga/Angela deserved more than their friendship(s) got from this shitty excuse of a reunion.
What bothers me most is they always use the excuse of shawn needed to be maya's father figure as to why they put Katy and shawn together. Theres absolutely no reason at all that that man couldn't be a father figure to her without a rushed marriage storyline. Just look at shawn and turner. It would have even been more fitting as it would have been one of the many parallels between the two shows that we got to see. Dont get me wrong I really liked Katy, but I honestly wanted to see her happy ending be finally learning to stand on her own two feet and be a real mother to that little girl like she needed to be. The Katy and shawn relationship felt super forced from the start, and seemed to happen way to fast with no real time passing to allot for the deep feelings they seem to suddenly have. Not to mention she didnt feel as much like a "real" character because shes a noob and not from the original show. So I feel I wasn't as invested in her and what happens to her overall. Do I wish shawn and angela were endgame, I'm not 100% sure. But I was damn sure let down that him and katy were. :/
What should have been: Option 1 (The idealistic choice): Shawn goes to Europe with Angela. They get closer and marry, remaining in Europe and starting a family of their own. Shawn becomes an army photographer where he gets to travel the world. Angela becomes a fashion designer. Option 2 (The realistic choice): Angela leaves for Europe and her and Shawn keep contact for a while, but eventually grow apart and lose contact for the subsequent years. During those years, Shawn travels the world, has relationships, but nothing solid. Angela marries, but eventually ends up either divorced or widowed. By chance, Shawn and Angela reunite in New York and catch up with one another. They then slowly rekindle their relationship, picking up where they left off 15 years ago. It's not unheard of for high school/college sweethearts to find their way back to one another decades later after failed marriages/relationships or relationships that ended in the death of a partner. Literally ANYTHING other than Shawn and Katy. UGH!
Stuff like this was one of the reasons why Girl Meets World was so awful (the reasons other than ruining Boy Meets World are: cory and topanga's kid was annoying, the main friendship was kind of toxic, and that ableist bit they had about autism). They really ruined Boy Meets World so the two best friends here can have dads that are best friends. I'm glad this show got cancelled. Time and time again, Boy Meets World showed that Shawn and Angela were meant to end up together, but Girl Meets World decided to pair him with a character who was annoying just so he could become a parent to his child, female counterpart.
Few things you do realise that the actor has to want to be in the show right who told you that she wanted to be in the show for that happen and if they recast Angela people still would be crying

You know it’s funny, watching this as a child I shipped Mayas mom and Shawn, but then my sister who is a huge 90’s kid was like “Watch BMW!” So I did. And looking back I’m so disappointed with how the writers did this “reunion”. Shawn and Angela were THE couple, and I know they tried hard to get what Topenga and Cory had, but let’s be honest, Topanga and Cory should’ve tried to get what Shawn and Angela had. Why is everyone hating on Angela? Riley knowing nothing about their relationship and Maya wanting to have a father figure in her life. Things don’t always turn out the way teenagers want because they’re well, teenagers. But the writer gave them what they wanted and gave shitty reunion that I will try to forget even happened. Idc what anyone says, Shawn and Angela are and have always been endgame.

When it comes down to it, having this show in Disney Channel, rather than ABC, like it's predecessor, limited it's storytelling capabilities. Like all other shows in this network, it was forced to be regularly over the top, campy, and not too grounded. It had its moments, but it just couldn't live up to the original - largely due to the kid-friendly station it was put in.

This is how this episode/Series should have went, Katy couldn’t support Maya any more So Shawn adopted her. Then Angela comes back and tells Shawn that she stills loves him and she wants to be with him. Shawn says the same thing back. They date again. They get married. Then Maya,Angela, and Shawn be one happy family. And surprise maya will be a big sister.
I don’t get why Cory acted like they never had a friendship, Angela didn’t even leave Shawn, She went to Europe With her father for a year and was planning to come back and hopefully still be with Shawn but I think they broke up while she was in Europe. Only part I can answer is about the girls. They were teenagers so they wanted to be their way and that was fine. But the thing is the adults should’ve been able to explain what was going on and they would have to handle the facts. The show should have never had this reunion. They should have just left it alone. They could’ve gotten a letter from Angela or an email after the wedding or something and stopped any of this atrocity.

The writer says that Angela was happy in their relationship but Shawn wasn't. So that is how the reunion should be because he always gets the short end of the stick. Katy seems to be too much of a goof, her personality would better fit with Eric not Shawn. Shawn and Katy don't seem compatible in any way. I think it's just a superficial thing with both of them, which tends to burnout quickly. Shawn and Angela was way deeper and way more compatible. But then again Shawn's relationship and plot in this show is about him and Maya and their relationship is deep, so I guess they have to force Shawn and Katy together.
I hated this episode tbh. Shawn and anglea were legendary. The writters made out like anglea just left him but boy meets world fans know that she left to be with her dad. The writters also we're claiming her appearance to ruin things for Shawn like a hurricane . Anglea was the only person Shawn ever loved and he clearly stills loves her. It was, especially since the break up between Shawn and Angela was mutual, because her father asked her to go to Europe with him, and Shawn was okay with it, telling her to go. She didn't up and abandon him, she was even unsure if she should go, and he told her too, so the way they had him acting towards her makes no sense.

Angela returns to give Shawn advice on moving on with Katy reassuring him that he will be happy and be a good father figure to Maya as he has doubts he could be a role model to Maya as he is too screwed up , according to him. She convinces him that she is happily married and ready to settle down with her partner. Topanga throws a big reunion party for her where she meets Riley and everyone else. She says her goodbyes and Cory runs after her thanking her for coming down and giving hope to Shawn, allowing him to move on from her and we find out that it was Cory who called her to talk to Shawn. They hug, then Cory returns to the party and we see her staring down at her wedding ring as she takes it off whispering 'Back to reality'. We learn that it was all a facade and that she is not at all married and is still in love with Shawn after all this time.
Eventually, they should end up together. (Shawngela for life)

This first part of their reunion is very awkward.... Cory was the biggest fan of their relationship in BMW but he made it seem like her being there was a bad thing. This is what happens when writers try to make reunions happen. Most of the time, it's very badly written.
while cory was their biggest supporter before she left for Europe, he was always shawn's best friend. im sure he saw shawn go through a lot of down times when she was gone. so while yes, he always supported them together he also saw how much she hurt his best friend when she left the country. and NOW, that hes finally on the road to being happy, she comes back to see him. I think he was just looking out for shawn and not wanting his friend to spiral down after seeing her. saying all that, yes it's a weird, disneyfied scene that makes no sense. and I always wanted shawn and angela together but Katy doesn't bother me. just trying to make sense of it

I've been watching Boy Meets World in order for the first time ever. I started 2 weeks ago, and I finished last night. Honestly, I liked Shawn and Angela, but I didn't get so attached to it the way longtime viewers did. I'm not saying their relationship was fake or forced or anything like that, what I am saying is that I didn't find their relationship all that engaging. Hell Angela as an individual character to me wasn't all that well developed. She was sassy, beautiful, feisty, and yes she did love Shawn, and yes she was his first stable relationship. I do think that prepared him for a lifelong commitment (marriage obviously). Now call me crazy, but I think a big part of why people loved Shawngela (as fans called it) had to do with the fact that it was one of the first interracial relationships to be seen on TV at the time. Again, maybe because I'm not a longtime viewer, but considering how in BMW, Shawn has said a total of 3 times to Angela that he wanted what Cory and Topanga had, and he said it again in the GMW episode, Girl Meets Upstate, I'm fine with Shawn being with Katy. I hope I was able to adequately explain my stance on this topic.

And what was good is that they managed to compete with Cory and Topanga. Cory and Topanga were perfect, had a perfect relationship etc ... Shawn and Angela weren't. They both had issues. You could more easily relate.
It was beautiful because even though they both didn't believe in love so much, they wanted to believe it because they loved each other. They wanted what Cory and Topanga had. Their relationship was based on listening and discussion.
And then their meeting was really cute. She introduced him to new things without even speaking to him. In addition, they were so similar without being too much. They understood each other without even having to speak to each other.
Anyway, what I wanted to say was that it's super cool that it's an interracial couple (because yes, that's it too) but it's not just that. And nostalgia speaks for some too.

Before Angie left with her dad. But when Shawn and Angie was on good terms, it worked and they looked so good together and played they parts with heart, fr.
How it should have gone: Both Maya parents leave and Shangela adopts Maya. I hate this part of the story. Shawn and Katy don't have any chemistry and we don't know what it is exactly that they like about each other. Shawn liked everything about Angela and still does. He likes her taste in music, her book of sonnets, her taste in lip gloss, her sense of humor...

A few things I noticed:
1. Shawn is wrong for saying that "he merely wanted what Cory and Topanga had" - at first, it was like that, but at the end, he wanted to marry Angela, and their love was real, not just some fad
2. Yes, Cory was kinda snubbing Angela, but he's Shawn's best friend, and in BMW it seemed like Angela broke Shawn's heart when she wanted to leave with her dad, so it's only natural that he's siding with his bf. But at the end of this scene (part 2/2) they gave each other a look as if Cory had known about her coming all along. Maybe to provide closure for Shawn.
3. Referencing BMW - I don't know who's fault it was - Shawn's for not being more assertive,
or Angela's because she kept bringing up how happy she was to spend time
with her dad
Conclusion: GMW screenwriters botched their relationship badly. I won't treat anything on GMW as canon.

To be fair, in BMW, Shawn tells Angela to go with her dad, so it's not even a bad break up, it's them separating so she can spend time with him, which Shawn understood how important that was, especially since he recently lost his own father.
Actually Shawn broke Angela's heart and in BMW Cory was trying to get them back together while in other episodes trying to be better friends with Angela

I didn't like how they went about this story line either. I didn't like how they made it seem like Angela coming to visit was a bad thing. I understand that she "left" Shawn, but she had a good reason and they make it see like Cory and Shawn are incapable of understanding her reason. Now as far as the communication stuff in the years between BMW and GMW, I don't really know, but I just hate how they made Angela's reappearance seem negative. She was Shawn's first love and was a very close friend to Shawn, Topanga, and Cory. She deserved a little more than what she received with this reunion.

This “reunion” was garbage. Why are Cory and Riley acting like Angela is some kind of home wrecker? Why wasn’t Topanga acknowledged? She was Angela’s best friend. Why is Angela styled like that? I heard Trina was mistreated by everyone on set during this episode (and the entirety of BMW as well). Riley and Maya really had no right to give opinions on a situation they were never involved in. Shawn could have still been a surrogate father to Maya without marrying her mother.

Shawn and Angela were completely necessary for television. At the time that BMW aired, there were hardly any interracial couples on television. For Shawn and Angela to exist at a time where couples like them hardly existed, and for them to have a legitimate love story on a wholesome television show like BMW, I can see why fans may feel that their reunion was very underwhelming. I'm happy for Maya and her mom. However, I wanted better for Shawn and Angela. Their relationship deserved more than this reunion. Hell, Cory/Angela and Topanga/Angela deserved more than their friendship(s) got from this shitty excuse of a reunion.
What bothers me most is they always use the excuse of shawn needed to be maya's father figure as to why they put Katy and shawn together. Theres absolutely no reason at all that that man couldn't be a father figure to her without a rushed marriage storyline. Just look at shawn and turner. It would have even been more fitting as it would have been one of the many parallels between the two shows that we got to see. Dont get me wrong I really liked Katy, but I honestly wanted to see her happy ending be finally learning to stand on her own two feet and be a real mother to that little girl like she needed to be. The Katy and shawn relationship felt super forced from the start, and seemed to happen way to fast with no real time passing to allot for the deep feelings they seem to suddenly have. Not to mention she didnt feel as much like a "real" character because shes a noob and not from the original show. So I feel I wasn't as invested in her and what happens to her overall. Do I wish shawn and angela were endgame, I'm not 100% sure. But I was damn sure let down that him and katy were. :/

What should have been:
Option 1 (The idealistic choice): Shawn goes to Europe with Angela. They get closer and marry, remaining in Europe and starting a family of their own. Shawn becomes an army photographer where he gets to travel the world. Angela becomes a fashion designer.
Option 2 (The realistic choice): Angela leaves for Europe and her and Shawn keep contact for a while, but eventually grow apart and lose contact for the subsequent years. During those years, Shawn travels the world, has relationships, but nothing solid. Angela marries, but eventually ends up either divorced or widowed. By chance, Shawn and Angela reunite in New York and catch up with one another. They then slowly rekindle their relationship, picking up where they left off 15 years ago.
It's not unheard of for high school/college sweethearts to find their way back to one another decades later after failed marriages/relationships or relationships that ended in the death of a partner.
Literally ANYTHING other than Shawn and Katy. UGH!
Stuff like this was one of the reasons why Girl Meets World was so awful (the reasons other than ruining Boy Meets World are: cory and topanga's kid was annoying, the main friendship was kind of toxic, and that ableist bit they had about autism). They really ruined Boy Meets World so the two best friends here can have dads that are best friends. I'm glad this show got cancelled. Time and time again, Boy Meets World showed that Shawn and Angela were meant to end up together, but Girl Meets World decided to pair him with a character who was annoying just so he could become a parent to his child, female counterpart.
Few things you do realise that the actor has to want to be in the show right who told you that she wanted to be in the show for that happen and if they recast Angela people still would be crying

You know it’s funny, watching this as a child I shipped Mayas mom and Shawn, but then my sister who is a huge 90’s kid was like “Watch BMW!” So I did. And looking back I’m so disappointed with how the writers did this “reunion”. Shawn and Angela were THE couple, and I know they tried hard to get what Topenga and Cory had, but let’s be honest, Topanga and Cory should’ve tried to get what Shawn and Angela had. Why is everyone hating on Angela? Riley knowing nothing about their relationship and Maya wanting to have a father figure in her life. Things don’t always turn out the way teenagers want because they’re well, teenagers. But the writer gave them what they wanted and gave shitty reunion that I will try to forget even happened. Idc what anyone says, Shawn and Angela are and have always been endgame.

When it comes down to it, having this show in Disney Channel, rather than ABC, like it's predecessor, limited it's storytelling capabilities. Like all other shows in this network, it was forced to be regularly over the top, campy, and not too grounded. It had its moments, but it just couldn't live up to the original - largely due to the kid-friendly station it was put in.

This is how this episode/Series should have went, Katy couldn’t support Maya any more So Shawn adopted her. Then Angela comes back and tells Shawn that she stills loves him and she wants to be with him. Shawn says the same thing back. They date again. They get married. Then Maya,Angela, and Shawn be one happy family. And surprise maya will be a big sister.
Whoever wrote Shawn's romance storyline in GMW must have hated Shawn and Angela together in the first place.

Only part I can answer is about the girls. They were teenagers so they wanted to be their way and that was fine. But the thing is the adults should’ve been able to explain what was going on and they would have to handle the facts. The show should have never had this reunion. They should have just left it alone. They could’ve gotten a letter from Angela or an email after the wedding or something and stopped any of this atrocity.

This is the best comment! They should have just left it alone. What was more upsetting was the explanation of why they did it this way. The writer says that Angela was happy in their relationship but Shawn wasn't. So that is how the reunion should be because he always gets the short end of the stick. That is BS because he was happy with Angela and deserved to be happy with her.
