    For the girls who failed to use a menstrual cup: You are not gross for using pads and tampons. You are not a monster for using disposable menstruation products. After a few months of failing to use menstrual cup, I did feel guilty and shameful for using pads because I wanted to use a menstrual cup for environmental purpose. Now I just accept that I can only do what I can because menstrual underwears couldn't hold my super heavy flows either. Hopefully, one day I'll figure out how to use the cup! For now, be compassionate with yourself and if you ever feel gross for using a pad, don't be, because I don't think you're gross :)

    • @acm5739
      @acm5739 4 роки тому +21

      Totally agree with this, and if that's what continues to work for you, that's absolutely fine! However, if you're interested in helping the environment, you might find some reusable cloth pads on Etsy that work for you. There are tons of different thicknesses, even for postpartum, and many of them are no thicker than a disposable pad. My favorite brand is Yurtcraft, and her pads have lasted me for the past decade-- I go between them and my menstrual cup. It's totally okay to stick with disposables, but there are also many many reusable options that should work for almost anyone who is interested!

      I have heard your cervix can sit higher or lower than usual when you are on your period so just be aware of that. It is also easier for some people to insert once they have started bleeding. But this from what I have heard and read, not speaking from personal experience (just received my cup and am having a hard time inserting).

    • @regisforgo4000
      @regisforgo4000 4 роки тому +14

      Just two things to consider for this:
      1. The cervix stands at different heights when you are and aren't bleeding, and at different points of the entire cycle, so it may stand lower or higher when you're not on your period, making wearing the cup uncomfortable.
      2. Proper lubrication is important while inserting the cup. Trying to put it on when there is no lubricating discharge or blood might, again, make it uncomfortable to put on or take out.

      Everybody talks about changing the menstrual cup in public but can someone please tell me if I get my periods suddenly when I am out in public, how do I use it then? Because I have heard that we have to sterilize it just before period and hot boiling water is not availiable everywhere 😥😰

    • @chloefrancois1984
      @chloefrancois1984 4 роки тому +1

      Sakshi your vagina is not a sterile area to begin with, think about how it’s supposed to be able to handle a penis just fine, and a penis isn’t the first thing I think about to put on a list of “clean” stuff.
      If you wash thoroughly with just water (boiling it in water is an option too, but to be safe for your pH balance please avoid soaps), then just have it ready in a clean little bag in your purse or something, you can take it with you and insert when needed basically anywhere. I’ve also heard people insert it beforehand when they’re expecting their period to happen, which is totally safe because unlike a tampon, the cup won’t dry out your vagina or anything
      Hope this helps! When in doubt, talk to your doctor or gynaecologist if needed.
      My gynaecologist told me about the not-sterility of the vagina, which now makes perfect sense to me, while I was worried crazy before 😅
      (I wouldn’t pee on the cup though)

      Sakshi you can get two. One for at home and one for your purse (an “emergency” one) in case you get your period when you are out and about. You can also get some period underwear to stuff in your purse (with a ziplock bag for your dirty underwear) in addition or instead of your cup. You can also wear period underwear when you know it’s getting close if your cycle is predictable.

      hi! i am a virgin and i've been using a menstrual cup for almost a year now. i had been using tampons for some years, but it is completely different (at least for me). i would recommend you try and put a finger inside your vagina first, try to understand how it can move and how it is on the inside, where your cervix is, etc. that way you get a better idea of your body's forms and sizes. i recommend this to all my friends and also i think it helps to lose the fear of puting something in, when understanding that it's just a normal part of your body. hope it helps some of you!

    A little tip if you don't like staining: wash the blood from your cup away with cold water. Just as with blood on clothes, always rinse with cold water. Warm water will make stains. You can always use a little warm water afterwards so the cup doesn't feel cold, but for rinsing, cold water is the way to go :)

    Two things about this. a) Urine is only sterile until it leaves your bladder; there's a long way between bladder and cup for it to pick up germs (including fecal germs from your hands after you've wiped or whatever). b) While urine is on average neutral (pH 7), it actually can range a lot (between 4 and 8 or so) for any individual person on any individual day, leading me to be concerned that it could cause a pH imbalance in your vagina. Since that can lead to yeast infections, it's definitely a potential problem. My general feeling on this is that if you absolutely must, this would be one way to clean your cup, but you'd probably be better off not cleaning it at all.

    • @jill5676

      I was thinking this as well.

    • @aangelaci98
      @aangelaci98 4 роки тому +9

      Neither if you absolutely must! The chances of getting a vaginal infection are too high. Any change of pH or alteration of vaginal microbiota (because urine is not sterile!) can lead to these infections. Ask people around you, don’t be ashamed of having your period. It’s the most natural thing. Or wear some reusable pads if you know that you will be outside for a long period of time. There are always alternatives instead of risking your health :)

You just need to find a good angle to push it in. You should go with you body anatomy and it didn’t hurt at all😱 i was shook. The taking it out is a little bit harder you need to be relaxed and again thinking about the anatomy. Once you can touch the little stamp you can easily follow it to grab your cup. After you grabbed it just punch it and the vacuum will break. Good luck

I was able to use the same cup for years, but after the birth of my 5th child in 2017, I had to find a new cup, as the old one just wouldn't work any longer. So as our bodies change, sometimes we need different sized/shaped cups. Also heavy bleeder, and often have to empty my cup away from home, and I don't rinse it, pour it out, re-insert and go. I'll rinse at home and also in shower.

    i have used a cup for the last three years, and i can add some tips to sarah’s:
    1. there can be a difference in firmness. some women are more sensitive down there, and would need softer silicone. i tear a bit with too firm cups.
    2. if you have a microwave, you can sterilize it in there. put it in a cup, fill with water and put it in the microwave for 2-3 minutes. alternatively, you can use the stove and a pot, but i can understand if that’s not ok for everyone

    I have been using a menstrual cup now for almost five years and haven't ever needed to empty it in a bathroom stall. My period is only "heavy" for the first two days, so those are the only days I could potentially need to. My trick is to think ahead and find a one person bathroom. These days there are many private family bathrooms available. Through travel, work, and school I have always found a way. The trickiest time was during international travel. International airports can be a gamble, so I use the bathroom on the plane when I get the chance. I always use period underwear as back up on the first two days so I could potentially go longer if need be.

    I’ve had really heavy periods the last little while and could never keep up with the amount of changes I would have to do, even with the largest diva cup. The size wasn’t comfortable but I needed the capacity! You know that feeling when you go from sitting to standing and just know that it’s about to get messy 👀... I’m so glad that I’ve found a solution! I am now using a Nixit reusable menstrual disc. They only started to ship to Canada recently and I’m so grateful. No suction and just works better with my body. No matter what, a reusable eco friendly is a menstrual must in my books. If you’ve never tried a menstrual disc before, try a package of “one disc” from amazon on your next period to see if you like the style.
    Generally, the UA-cam channel “Put a Cup in it” is very helpful for all things cup.

      Karine Youssef i also sonetimes do the “birth” technique, but it better not to do it all the time. The kegel exercise is good when done outwards AND inwards... the “birth” technique is kinda incomplete in a way...

      Yeah I’m quite sure kegel is very much about the “in” motion, which you won’t get if you “birth” it out. Maybe try compensating by doing the “in” bit too when/after “birthing” it out?

    Still new to my menstrual cup, but I love it! It definitely takes some time to get use it, because I know it's there and subconsciously I'm pushing against it. Once I relax those muscles and learn to ignore it, it's great. Ladies, there is no shame in trying out different menstrual cups of different shapes and sizes. My cervix is tilted and sits on the left side of my vaginal canal. This causes my menstrual cup to sit crooked, which can be uncomfortable. If this happens to you, don't give up! There's different things you can try to make it more comfortable for you!

I use reusable fabric liners as a back up as well as my menstrual cup and I find it to be so great! I don't get any cramps anymore (whether this is related to changing from tampon to cup, i don't know) but i only have to empty the cup once in the morning and once at night, so I often forget I'm on my period. I used to get cramps with tampons but it stopped since using a cup (and cloth pads too). I have 2 and put them in boiling water after every use, you can simply keep a jar for this. OrganiCup also makes wipes that are safe to use for it, if you ever need to use it on-the-go.

    Literally the best thing that EVER happened to my period. I had a Diva cup and used it with a cloth washable panty liner. It was like not even being on my period. Day one I changed it about 3-4 times, then days 2-5 was just morning and evening. I figured out how to change it in public restrooms and it was just so easy. When you mentioned the discharge, that was not an issue for me. I take out the cup, rinse it in the sink and reinsert it without getting any mess on my hands whatsoever. The first time I used it was the day before I expected my period to come and I found out after that I hadn’t put it in enough but it actually found its own way up as I went about my day and then put it in a little further the next time. So handy, so easy, so clean and so good for the environment!!🥳

Also I use a different fold to Sarah which makes it more pointy and much smaller to insert, saw it on a folding video x

      @@kanhakrishna7728 It's safe for any person of menstruating age. But it will be painful the first time you use it, especially depending on how much of your hymen is covering your vaginal opening. But mostly the pain will be caused by your own mistakes in inserting/removing the cup because of not knowing how to. A bit of practice, and you'll be fine! I'd recommend searching for more videos and maybe trying to find some that show diagrams of female anatomy so that you can see how the cup is supposed to be inserted, where it sits inside you, and how to remove it as comfortably as possible.

    I purchased my menstrual cup last year after I went on vacation. I was watching a movie on tv during a bad rain storm and for some reason every commerical that aired during the movie was period related and I was thinking about buying a period panty because my period is really only heavy for one day and the other days are just spotting but the period is still there so I would have to still wear a tampon. I looked at it as a waste of money but when I got back home I did my research and came across the diva cup which I absolutely love now. In the beginning it was hard to put in and take out. I even dropped it on my bathroom floor once and it was full. The entire bathroom looked like a crime scene. But now I'm used to it and I definitely have saved so much money. I'm happy about this decision

    A little tip I came across at the beginning of when I started using a cup, do the initial rinse with cold water (maybe as the hot water is warming up) as this will lead to much less discoloration, if that is something you want to avoid :) Then after that I defiantly go to town with the hot water haha. After I bleach the clean cup that is stained, I wash it good with soap and water (rinse super well and long) and then boil it in some water for a while and wash it again with mild soap and water. (Don’t do this right before your period, it’s best to do it after your period- so that way you’re not inserting right after bleaching.) but I’ve found no issues doing this, I just be sure to boil it once or twice after bleaching and wash it good a few times as well after bleaching.
