Yeah I often remember a joke that I saw years ago: a sidewalk sign read "Come on in and save 50%." And the person said to himself, "Or I can just keep walking and save 100%. So that helps me a lot...
I never understood how people can only wear clothes a couple times and be done. I'll be honest, I'm 23, and I still wear some clothes from middle school.
Because most people buy from fast fashion brands, because they seem like the cheaper option in the moment (although, over time, investing in good quality pieces would save them money), and those clothes get worn out quite fast. Not after 2 wears, but they wouldn’t last more than one year if you’re actually wearing them regularly. Plus, many people don’t know how to take proper care of their clothes (throwing them in the drier is so bad for the clothes and so unnecessary).
Everyone's talking about "minimalism is just the poor people experience" but in my experience that's the opposite of the truth, all the people I know that were poor, including my own family, were hoarders. The scarcity mindset will cause you to keep a lot of things you don't need. If you have access to donation centers, food banks, etc, it becomes even more of a problem. I had *thousands* of articles of clothing throughout my childhood, because I had access to donations!!!! We never could have afforded the amount of stuff that we hoarded, but because we got it for free or cheap, we kept way too much stuff. My father-in-law grew up extremely poor, he isn't anymore, but now he still has problems with hoarding. Minimalism is not just for poor people and a lot of poor people are not minimalist.
I agree to this. My family was very poor, we hoard a lot..thinking "we might need this in the future". Including broken stuff, we'd say something like "maybe it could be spare parts in the future". Now that our family is doing better, we give away unused/broken stuff and think "we can just buy again if we need it". So, minimalist is not equal to being poor. And being poor doesn't mean you are minimalist.
yep, plus you can't buy the more expensive things to replace the other things. Like an electronic toothbrush or the razor thing. Also, often a Netflix subscription will be the main entertainment one can afford.
Y’all are trashing her but honestly look how happy she is talking abt this, minimalism is very effective and a good way to a happy and healthy lifestyle.
I feel in a way sorta insulted by her attitude honestly. If she mentions something that i use even use often i feel like in her opinion im being wastful. Shes too good to use "cue tips" for crying out loud. She doesnt have multiples like pairs of scissors. How often do children who enjoy crafts or if she wants to mend her "all natural laundry soap" washed clothing item (note not "items" because shes only allowed to own one shirt) but if she cant find the scissors what happens? There is one pair somewhere in her huge over priced home (which is where this all stems from because im almost positive her husband told her cheap ass one day "woman, if you want this castle you must never buy more than one pair of scissors so i can pay for this empty shell of a house") she claims unatural things are evil and dangerous.... like candles.. haha she will not get nails done.. once a year she will.. no lash services (wtf is lash services?) But once a year she will.. i see her message as posing as what is supposed to me smart shopping but she is beign super hipocritical dont you think? She doesnt like anything overstimulating.. children need to be stimulated. Shes neglecting her children. Her throat is dry perhaps if she had a bottled water she wouldnt be a miserable yet all natural person. She can of course do what she wants with her expensive house by sacrificing the small things that may or may not matter, but all i get is a snooty snobby rich by being cheap mind set and something that is an important lesson to children is that being wastful is not good, but they are in fact teaching their kids to judge others by the color of their nails and the scent of someones candles. My kids wouldnt feel comfortable playing with her children because her kids would have something negative to say if my daughter needed to use the one pair of scissors and they are already being used so shed have to process the dirty looks she got when she says "wheres another pair of scissors?" Question.. do you find it petty to make a video bragging about how picky and finicky you are with money? Just how much debt did this woman put her family in before she removed all the paper towels and toilet paper replacing them with washable butt wipes? Im not buying her ploy. That's what i dont buy. And does she punish her kid if at a sleep over she used a "cue tip"? It didnt cost them anything. But it might stimulate the child too much and they develope into "cue tip" hoarders. If you deny children of every little luxury they will go overbaord as adults feeling the need to fill the void youve provided them today. You know why they dont own multiple scissors? Its because the camera she uses for this video cost 2000$. And of course no wasting $ on costume jewelry their real jewelry is expensive AF. Or the car parked in the garage where we cant see. Gimme a break.
I agree, do what suits you. My home is packed and overloaded and it weighs me down. I want to live a more minimal lifestyle but my family won't agree to it 🤷♀️ maybe I'll just leave and live by myself Haha.....

She is not attacking anyone. If you want to use a baby monitor, than go ahead. She is talking about herself and what she does and doesn't buy and that's it. Just appreciate her content for what it is and stop feeling offended.
My mum never used a baby monitor for me or my brothers and there is 4 of us. If you put your baby in the crib and you know it’s safe nothing is going to happen..
Lani Babaos mi same! Think nowadays people preach a lot about how you need all these things or you’re a bad parent. My mum once said if you cried enough something was wrong 😂
Yes, to each her own. I appreciate her style and even get an inspiration here and there or sometimes wish I could have her attitude. But we're all different in what brings joy so that should be our own attitude. Appreciate, check it a change will work for you and in the end, it's your happiness meter and individual sense that has to shine. Omit any offense for others while at it. Like it or leave and stay happy💖
Most people, including myself, actually save a lot of money by not spending excess money. I have meaningful purchases so whenever I do spend its thoughtful and has purpose to it.
I’m a guy so I have all in one: body wash, conditioner, shampoo, gasoline, whipped cream, dish soap, ketchup, mustard, lemonade, oil, WD-40, toothpaste, and glue. Very efficient
Something is so liberating about this lifestyle... It's all about shedding all the excess layers and finding what you really need in your life. It's a really personal journey.
When you talked about getting rid of nail polish, I was literally sitting here painting my nails. ☺️ Because I like doing it and I makes me happy. Just a reminder for all you guys watching, just because a does or doesn't do something, you don't automatically have to follow suit. 😉
I love painting my nails as well, but I’m also a minimalist. I don’t have a huge collection of colors, I just have about 5 of my favorites. Definitely keep what makes you happy.
I love the visual of pretty painted nails, but most of those products are toxic and seep thru the skin and nails .. that was my reason for quitting nail polish, and enjoy the time gained too 🤣
For me it's I like having options. And I love all the colours of the rainbow equally, so they're all staying ;) But I love Sarahs tips on being more minimal and focusing more on being happy about what I have instead of constantly buying more.
I own 2 nail polishes. After 2020 I won’t have any more because I’m trying to pan them. I’m sort of proud of myself for that. The occasional mani/pedi is going to be my treat.
I am a fan! However I did want to point out that most of these are lifestyle choices rather than minimalism. If you don’t like to watch TV, then not having a TV is not being minimalistic. It’s your preference! It also seemed like a lot of these have caveats. You like to decorate for Christmas, but not other holidays. That’s how most people feel... I don’t know any young person that decorate for Valentine’s Day or Easter etc. you like sea salt spray, but not other hair products. Most women like one or two hair products, but not others. Just an observation.
i agree this wasnt a minimalist video this was just a video on her day to day things she uses. which is fine and good ideas but not minimalist. everyone is different tho
I don't like to watch TV, but it's more of a minimalist mindset applied to my time sort of thing. I do have TV shows and movies I enjoy, but I try to be intentional with my time and there are honestly better things I could be doing.
Minimalism consist in having only what you need. But the needs vary from person to person, so if you NEED to watch Netflix to be happy, then, have Netflix and you will still be a minimalist. But some people don't need it, so having it won't be minimalist. The Lifestyle IS being minimalist, but the way someone aplies this Lifestyle depends on the needs of one.
"this is just something that works for me, do what works best for you" she literally says that in the beginning of the video, you guys don't need to justify the things that you use or whatever she said that you don't agree with, please stop trying so hard to criticize, if you don't agree than just move on, she didn't ask you to be all like her.
"Me, me me.... blah blah." Great, you do you. It's not relevant to me what she prefers. Give me an objective reason for making the same choices. They exist, she just hasn't bothered to offer them.
@@valerieedwards923 funny that you say that! Those were the hardest books to keep in our prison library. There was always a wait list. Literally ALWAYS.
@@gabikrasuski2272 You think any artist can just get their art into a museum or gallery? As someone in the creative industry there are plenty of artists that work on commission basis. Less than one in a hundred artist ever get their works into museums even if they are all insanely talented. And even if they do, it is usually temporary exhibitions and by no means long term income. I don't think buying art should be an obligation, but your comment just makes no sense.
In response to the “I’m minimalist because I’m poor” comments, if you think this is the case for you, I recommend you actually reflect on your relationship to material objects, and whether you actually understand the philosophy behind minimalism. My dad was poor up until his thirties; he had no disposable income at all for years, and couldn’t even afford to use the bus most weeks and had to walk hours each day to get to and from his jobs. But as soon as he finally got a decent, stable income, his spending skyrocketed and he started a life of hoarding. I have a lot of anxiety thinking about the struggle my mom and I will go through after his death, trying to sort through all his stuff so she can downsize to an apartment. It will likely take 1-2 months of daily work to clear out their home of all the stuff he has accumulated. Thankfully, we will likely have the privilege to take that time to do so, so we can save what is actually important to us. You might have thought he lived as a minimalist in his youth, but in reality he was just poor and desperately wanted to own many more things. You can be poor and a minimalist, and financial motivations are often what drive people to minimalism, but poverty is NOT minimalism. Minimalists feel a sense of satisfaction with what they currently have; most poor people do not feel that, justifiably, as they cannot afford to buy the things they really want, and often just accumulate things they can afford in the hope that that stuff will give them some joy in their oppressed existence.
Very well said! I have a stable job and am earning enough money for myself and am still able to save money, yet I just personally prefer to have less things, usually those that I need. My wants are few, and while I do have certain tendencies to buy wants here and there, I can control myself cuz Im very practical.
Very, very well said. It actually requires NOT being poor to adopt this philosophy, I think. Or at least having an awareness of what it is like to have a CHOICE to have things or not. I can't say I have lived in poverty, but I have never had much disposable income. Recently I do have some and I have definitely spent it gleefully. I spend it on things that fuel me creatively and help me produce useful, beautiful items. You can choose to own things that take up space, but it does not mean you are not aware of your footprint. I make fabric, slowly, bit by bit from spinning yarn to knitting it into garments. It is the slowest fashion there is and these garments last for longer than a lifetime if cared for properly. It does cost money up front, and it takes up space, but it offers me much more than buying clothing does. I only buy what I need so I can walk around without being naked. I would never be able to make this choice unless I had the choice. I would never have the choice if the only way I had to get clothes was to make them. And that is privilege. Check it.
@@sweetpeace5 OH... no, I don't. I used to sell on Etsy years ago when I made funky novelty type yarn, but now the process is quite slow and deliberate and it's really just for personal projects now. It's quite labor intensive! I could get into the ethics of labor compensation blah blah but I'm just much happier not thinking of it as a business. I occasionally will sell yarns I've made if it sits around for awhile and I can't come up for a use for it, though.
I like my coffee table, it’s where I put my turnable remote control caddy & I can show off my pics that I took with Alec Baldwin & GnR. I don’t have children soo,,,
I love how in these videos you're not, like, stingy. Like "oh I don't buy books or movies because they take up too much space" or whatever. That's a terrible example, but it's the best I can come up with. My point is you don't deprive yourself of anything by not buying something. Like cotton pads. You're not depriving yourself of that way of removing your makeup because you use a better alternative. You don't cut stuff out all willy nilly. I've seen some people take minimalism way too far where they make themselves miserable. Not every minimalist has to be a hardcore "I only have one fork because I live by myself" type. I personally think that a minimalist is someone who has a place and purpose for everything and everything in its place fulfilling its purpose. Plain and simple. And I think you portray that very well Sarah.
There's a word for what you discribed. Essentialist. If having 100 books makes you happy then it's essential. Or intentionalist. I agree with you. It's not a race. It shouldn't be this envy of someone who does it "better". Btw, i do have around 100 books, im also an avid vinyl, film and vhs collector so i have alot of physical items. I'm trying to get rid of some stuff but it's difficult. I have a bunch of items that i love and wanna wear again but because of school stress i had a period where i really fell of the wagon and now i don't fit most of my clothes lmao😅. I once lost all the extra weight, i could wear whatever, but then school started sgain and here i am, heaviest i've ever been. But you know what i don't care. Once im over all my stupid senior exams in the middle of this pandemic, i can do what i want, i can change, i can set a routine i can stick to.
@@karla.karlaabbott3254 how can this be gross...maybe they spend their money on experiences instead of materialism...and also when having kids....a family really needs to have savings...and when a pwrson has to work hard for their money its best for tjem to always consider where their money is going....so your comment is very irrelevant..
I usually love your videos, but I think you misunderstood some items. Baby monitors are not a way to spy on your children or invade their privacy. My younger brother had breathing issues and the monitor was simply used to ensure he breathed through the night. No hate, just thought I should let you know that not all people have the intention of "spying" on their children.
Right? She's lucky her kids never collapsed in their sleep because they could. They could die in the next room and she won't know because she refuses to use safety measures in order to keep her lifestyle. I don't see how that's different from a shallow parent not wanting baby monitors because they're ugly.
@@SuperLara007 well I am surprised I am alive. Think of the families that don't have the extra money to spend on a baby monitor with many children grown into healthy adults. Think of all the people that have lived into their 80s that were born in a time when such things did not exist. If the infant is healthy the chance that something fatal would happen is extremely low. If they are in a situation that not having proper supervision can lead to death, the infant shouldn't be watched over through a monitor but in real life nearby.
@@konyu Well, child mortality is a actual data which is possible to analyse, is the index today the same as from the 80s? I mean, you used it as an example, I'm sure you checked. Not to mention the cross over between the information of how many kids died in their sleep in the 80's and how many died this year. Or how many kids were saved because of the presence of a baby monitor and how many could've been saved if their parents had it (there's a study for it, is actually a known data). I have a case close to me to which the child was in a contained space and the mother was in the next room listening, but he was able to get out and climb a bookshelf, which fell on top of him and when his mother heard the noise it was already too late. Is all a matter of chance but if there's even a 1% chance of your child dying it means a few already died for it. Our point is that how can you simply ignore the fact that you could save your child's life if this 1% chance of accident happened just for the sake of your conceptual lifestyle? No life is worth the risk, especially for such a small and vain reason (and don't tell me it isn't vain because go this far over a concept is pure ego). I mean, she thinks is necessary to have a globe on her bookshelf but not a baby monitor to make sure she can save her baby's life. Priorities right?
@@SuperLara007 I wrote about those that have lived to their 80s not the people that were born in the 80s. Also that chance is just a chance. Of course it just depends on the person whether they want a baby monitor or not but I wanted to explain that its not stupid for not having a monitor in the room. Because think about it, the mom in your case heard the sound but by that time she was too late. What would the outcome been like if she had a baby monitor. She would have either seen the bookshelf fall and run over (which would have been the same speed as her going to the child when the bookshelf fell) or she would have heard the sound through the monitor which still would have had the same outcome. Unless the parent has their eyes and ears glued to the monitor 24/7 anything can happen. Like you said, there is a possibility of anything happening. Sarah is not being a shallow parent because she doesn't use a baby monitor. It is just her way of parenting and it is not okay for people that watch her content to comment on her stand as a mother just because she uses a certain product or not.
And that’s totally okay. And I think those things she mentioned are minimalism - minimalistic life means that you don’t need to own stuff that you don’t need. And she doesn’t need them, that’s why she doesn’t buy them. She doesn’t need to own 20 t-shirts, she only needs 5, so she only buys 5. And that’s an OPTION. She made that decision. If you listened to what she said, she mentioned many things she would like to buy and own but she won’t because she doesn’t NEED them, only WANT them. And that’s a huge difference. And at the same time a preference. And just because she doesn’t need a baby monitor and you do, doesn’t mean you are not living a minimalistic life. You choose what you own and need. She pointed out her list of things, just like she said it at the beginning of the video.
to j m - agreed. I am not a minimalist, but I don't use/have about 30 things on the list. This may be good to motivate people that have accumulated too much stuff and the really need to de-clutter.
Umm everyone , she acknowledged those habbits after years , she noticed that she didn’t need them , like she didn’t think that in one day and told us , also the kids monitor , probably after having three kids she experienced that she can hear her children without it and all
*I don't wear clothes; I don't know I'm just not a clothes person. Personally it saves me a lot of money on buying clothes and washing them, I'm just not a clothes person.*
I actually have two, but they’re both practical. I have my every day case (it’s a muted shimmery white with these beautiful little hand painted yellow flowers and grass and stuff on it, super cute), but then I have a solid black case that has a little sliding door thing on it that can hold my card and a little bit of cash. I use this phone case for times when I don’t want my purse on me for safety reasons. I have kids, so my hands are always full, but when we go to festivals, or nearby concerts, or public gardens I always use that case because these are all places I wouldn’t want to set my purse down but I also don’t want it on me. I also do this when my husband and I go out on dates or if we happen to go to our favorite local bar. So the case doesn’t get used every day like my other, but it gets used often enough that I think it’s still practical for me, because we live in a town that has so many festivals and concerts that we like to take our kids to lol
I have two phone cases with my phone but one is kinda broken because I have my blue and that is with a case with pockets and the outside was loose and now I have a pink one some with that if I need a new case not gonna buy this kind of case Just a silicone one and with my old phone 3 because my dad and stepmom had the same phone so when they tot a new one I hot there cases I think there is one thing I don't buy is high heels because I know I can't walk on them bought Them last Christmas releasid I couldn't walk on so I thought of is only declutter and this year I don't have graduation prom and was planning on renting a dress but now I don't need it at all 💗
When I was in Morocco for a student exchange program i saw that the ppl there had at least 5 phomecases and those who had the same phones kept on swaping them so i'd see my friends phones with 4-5 different cases per day... so confusing lol
Unfortunately a lot of people in the world don't have common sense anymore, so the fruit of having that common sense is a foreign concept to then that they feel they have to put a label on. It's sad and silly.
Makeup is for the wearer, and it is for feeling mentally and emotionally good about yourself. I relate to this by wearing nice undies. I feel so confident in nice undies even when I know no one else will see them.
Just a reminder for everybody watching: This list works for her. That doesn't mean that you should feel guilty if you do buy some of the things she doesn't buy. Often, it's way more cost effective to buy things in bulk, meaning you often will NEED to have "multiples" in the interest of finances. You also may derive a lot of happiness from having special event clothing, even if you don't wear it often, and that's ok! You may want conditioner and hair products because your hair looks its best with those, or you may want a wired bra because of your bust size, or you may feel most comfortable in a space that's heavily decorated with a bunch of useless trinkets, and that's FINE. Being rude to a person who is sharing what is best for her purely on the basis of it not being the best for you, however, is not fine. Everybody has their own way of living, and I wish that everybody would treat these things as a tool to figure out what you really do want/need in your life, rather than either saying "I agree with her" or "she sucks". It's just a tool, not a command. That's what I think, at least.
Amber Klaire yes! My husband puts a wall up when I try to declutter. If I suggest donating a shirt that he has had since high school that no longer fits, he says no. Everything is kept “just in case”

Same. Trying to force everything to be functional, without recognizing that the enjoyment of beauty is wonderful for the heart and soul, seems counterproductive in the end.
I get what she says. I see a lot of spaces decorated for decoration's sake. This is a minimalist mindset; I also don't like clutter in the way of decorations.
I'm a minimalist and I own some original art by local artists, and that's honestly not unusual among minimalists. What we tend to avoid is the mass-produced "decor" from placed like Target and Kirkland's.
I felt this way towards a minimalist friend! I instead buy concert tickets, maybe a gift card to their favorite restaurant, or if all else fails a candle or notebook! Things I watch they love!
As a minimalist I notice I don’t get “gifts”. I get a thoughtful handmade card or letters or a dinner out or a homemade cake. Time with loved ones is more valuable to me than things.

i personally like to have kitchen scissors, specifically reserved for cutting food, meats, food packages, etc, and keep them seperate than say office or sewing scissors. also hair cutting scissors.
I do agree with having a separate pair of kitchen scissors. I can see how to some people that might seem a bit excessive, but I see office scissors and kitchen scissors as separate tools for separate purposes.
I would never ever refuse of wired bras... this is a list, that works just for her! It is so unsuitable in many ways for so many reasons for so many people... :/
My daughter often has bad dreams and cries at night. I would never hear her crying without a baby monitor. I think it would be very cruel to ignore her crying just because I am sure she is in a safe place and therefore doesn‘t need a baby monitor. Strange to say a baby monitor invades the privacy of a baby. 🤨
Also we don’t know how close her room is too her kids, how light of a sleeper she is. Her kids are still standing. Also she never said any of us have to do these things, it’s just what she does. If this doesn’t work for you, that’s okay. Everyone’s needs are different.
Armywife70 yes I am far away. Bedrooms are on the first floor, kitchen and living room on the ground floor. You need ears like a cat to hear your baby cry while you clean the kitchen. But good for you that you have such good ears. I envy you! 😂
@Anita Frattle Levy People didn't only listen, they actually hacked into the monitor and watched the baby and even talked to them. I did my research. But this is only possible with monitors with connection to the internet of course. So the solution is easy. Do your research and buy the right baby monitor and no hacking is possible if that is what you are worried about. :)

I swear that worked wonders! Idk why, but it did!
For the cute/impulse buy stuff, whether it's online or in store, I take a picture of it. Then I get to enjoy it to some extent, by getting to look at it, but I don't have to buy it.
“i want my kid to have privacy” bruh- a baby monitor is for babiesss, they don’t need privacy they need protection against like falling, and eating things
a babys room should be baby proofed you shouldn't have to worry about that happening to your kid and if you are take away those things that put them at risk
If you have a kid you should take care of him and not buy an electronic device to do it for you. You can leave your baby if you are 100% sure he is safe if you need to

A sub from Vietnam here :D 10 years or so ago, fast fashion wasn't a thing in my country. Most of us have our clothes tailored since it was really affordable. The tailor would leave generous seam allowance and most of us had basic sewing skills so that we could fix our own clothes if they needed any fitting over time. It may seem unbelievable but I still have three pairs of trousers passed down from my grandmother, still in good shape, and I still wear them on a mostly daily basis. (Though I did have to fix them a bit since my grandmother was a smaller size than me.) It's sad that brands like Zara, H&M, Forever 21, etc. have begun to penetrate our market. Not many people think about getting their clothes tailored (and wait weeks for it) anymore since it's much quicker to go to a shop and make a quick buy.
Give it away for free on Facebook marketplace. It's what I've been doing, and this way you know your items will get used as opposed to sitting on a thrift store shelf. :)
Plastic bags you buy in the store has been raised everywhere in Sweden to 1$ due to raise in plastic tax. So more people use their own shoppingbags. However many people did use reusable shoppingbags for groceries before this as well, I am one of those.
I understand you are very concerned with the ethics of labor. Have you considered how cashews are picked? Have you seen then hands of the women who pick them? I agree that we should do everything possible to stay ethical... But this is an important issue that needs to be brought up since you opt for cashew based products
Irish Claddagh totally agree with you. Dr Gundry well explained it in his Plant Paradox and Longevity Paradox books as well as on his UA-cam channel. Issue is cashew is not a nut, but from a legume family.
@@SuperAnnetik you seem very naive... the issue is definitely not that a cashew is a legume not a nut. Did you even read the previous comment or do prefer to be ignorant by choice? The cashews burn thr hands of the women who harvest them. That's the issue. Why don't you harvest your own cashews?
You said your shelf may not be the most beautiful, but I disagree. I actually think it looks adorable and nice and clean, not cluttered. And like you said, there is a purpose for each item. Love it and these ideas, thanks Sarah!
How do you deal with friends and family gifting you at birthdays and Christmas? Do you let them buy for your kids? That's where most of our clutter comes from.
Some of them get pretty expensive, upwards to $200 or so. But eventually they pay for themselves since you aren’t buying a new toothbrush every couple months.
They clean your teeth so much better though. I always used a regular tooth brush and when I made the switch , my teeth felt sooooo much cleaner. It’s worth the extra money for the much better job it does. But mine only costed 50$.
As someone who loves traveling, one of my favorite souvenirs are postcards! Every place I go, I'll buy a post card and write a little bit of what I did, and send it off to my family. I have postcards from my grandpa from the 1960s and its definitely a souvenir that is valuable, cheap, and memorable!
Try living in a small Motorhome for five years and you'll quickly learn what's necessary. A good time to de-clutter is when moving home. I did this a number of years back and was ruthless. I replaced the items I threw out with more compact and better quality items. I always purchase anything I need when reduced and never pay full price nor do I ever pay delivery fees when shopping online. I also bargain down asking prices. It is an individual decision as to what we see as necessary so don't deprive yourself and be miserable. Life's too short!
wired bras are safe if worn in the correct size and shape. measure yourself and read up on actual bra sizing. you might learn your bra size is completely different than what you thought
Most of these seem more sensible than minimalist. I'm guilty of double buying (especially of notebooks and pens) and being attracted to pretty things and sales. It's time I took control. And time to use what I've got!
Geez, I just stumbled upon this video and I actually enjoyed it and opened my eyes a little and I found it very helpful. I decided to see what was in the comments and I can’t believe how rude and ridiculous some of you are being for someone just sharing how they live their lives. There is no need to comment on the way someone else lives their life. It’s theirs. Stop judging others so much. Share positivity!! If you don’t have anything nice, don’t say anything at all. Move on. You’re wasting your time and possibly hurting someone else’s feelings at what cost?? Be kind.
Sabrina, yes but she is SHARING, so she has to take the shit as people call it. She is as empty-headed and irritating AF, I completely understand the negative responses.
she's not perfect. you're not either! she's talking about her lifestyle that makes her happy. you can have your lifestyle that makes you happy, she never said you can't. as long as she's not hurting anyone or herself, she's doing great! let's celebrate how different we all are and how we all thrive in different ways :)
Every time I watch a video about minimalism I get to the conclusion that this lifestyle was born due to the habits of North Americans of buying a lot. I live in South America and it seems that we are minimalistic by nature. No offense, we're just different.
minimalist by necessity Kathia. I agree. In plenty other places like in Kenya, a lot of these things aren't even a part of life anyway. But I think her take on it is from a very positive place.
Healthy cultures tbh. I remember growing up in south America feeling so good as a child in clean clear empty homes we visited. Our home was similar but very small. And other homes larger so had that museum feel. Lol now living in Europe married to someone who has eastern culture pfff. Not allowed to clear up or donate home like a packhouse. But hopefully with coaches like Sarah here we'll get back to a normal healthy lifestyle.
I’m laughing at the baby monitor. I never bought one either but was given one for free when I had my second baby. I plugged it in and within minutes was subjected to a one sided phone call from someone who lived near me. It went on and on. My monitor was on the same wave length as a neighbours cordless phone. I unplugged it and gave it back lol.
I am acne prone and i put alwayq coconut oil on my hair and always remove my make-up with it. And i never have acne problem with coconut oil. But after removing makeup with oil i wash my face twice to remove all oil and after that even if a pimple is trying to comeout it disappears next morning
Yes warning to anyone who sees this: if you’re trying *any* product for the first time make sure you spot test I slathered coconut oil all over my face (i’m not even oily) and I have never had so much acne in my entire life
Or reusable cotton pads. If you don't thoroughly wash them everytime you'll be putting more bacterias to your face than if you just didn't wash it at all. And sometimes, the amount of water and soap you need to clean them is worst than if you used a silicone one or even, depending on the soap you use, dispensable cotton pads
Yes, I think if you're careful and you use just a minimal amount it's okay for your hair, but I would never use coconut oil to remove my makeup because I have very sensitive skin and break out easily. I use a double cleaning system to remove my makeup. Coconut oil is useful and it does have its purpose, but it's not something intended to be applied to your face and certainly not left on as a moisturizer.
Loved the video. But I have a question to all of you - how not to use paper towels at all? I don't use them on regular basics, but in some cases I find them necessary. When I fry and I put stuff on paper towels after to soak up excess oil. I tried to use one dish towel only for that, but I find it is impossible to clean. Any advice? :) Also scissors, in all those videos people say they own just one. I personally don't feel comfortable using the same ones to open boxes, open packages in the kitchen (some are impossible to open otherwise for me...), trim plants and hair cut. Those are four in my home. I don't try to shame anyone, but I just wonder how to minimise it, do you desinfect then after every use? And I have to disagree in my opinion on the "just in case items" - I find candles or flash light when the powers goes down necessary or bandages and wound desinfectant. It is good to be prepared for some major 'cases' :) Sending lots of positive energy to all of you :)
Everyones situation is different and you should ALWAYS do what fits best for you and your family....I use a small strainer instead of paper towels but thats me...I have various scissors in my little home and im ok with that...its being used and that is whats important....I always look from other to be informed rather than influenced 💚
Some of those you are most likely using different types of scissors for because they are for different uses. I would assume that you use scissors specifically for hair, maybe some plant shears, and regular scissors for boxes, and something in the kitchen. Maybe you could use the same pair for boxes and your kitchen needs but if you have already purchased the scissors why get rid of them? Maybe if one of those two pairs have been lost or become dull, see then if one does the trick for both jobs. I agree with the other commenter on here, do what works for you!
@@laurenh5299 Thank you for your reply Lauren! I'm not trying to change it, it works for me so I stay this way. I was just wondering how others do it :) I have those scissors from my parents, they are like 20 years old or more, they work perfectly and I wouldn't be planing purchasing new ones. I would like to stop using paper towels though and searching how others soak up excess oil after frying. This is a big kitchen mystery for me :)
@@TaKreatywna I have two pairs of scissors, but not for different purposes. One is upstairs and the other is downstairs. I just wash them if I've used them for something messy. Just in with all the other dishes. For paper towels to soak up excess liquid, this will vary for different people depending on their diet. My husband and I only very rarely cook something that requires this, and that's just down to the meals we make. So people living without paper towels probably just eat different food from you.
decor & art doesn't need to be "useful" to be valuable. looking at art in our homes has a lot to offer and benefit us as far as de-stressing & brain function goes. something to think about next time you want to knock anyone who dares put decor in their home haha.
Agreed, as a full time artist who puts many weeks and a lot of effort into every detail of my art, to see the joy it brings people and to hear how much people continue to enjoy my art is really lovely, it's part of the spice of life to enjoy people's creativity. We have a huge amount of actual junk like duplicates or half broken pots and pans, clothes and all sorts of things you don't use or wear or appreciate looking at which can be gotten rid of. Art doesn't come into these categories unless you actually don't like the piece of art and simply keep it for some other reason.
I watch these type of videos and I feel like cleaning my entire apartment and getting rid of everything. I tend to be a compulsive buyer so I need to watch these type of videos. They really help me control my problem lol.
THE TRUTH: A LOT of people would be in a better financial situation right now if they picked up some of these habits. Not all of them, because she is a little intense. Haha 😄 But I applaud her for her discipline. ❤
🤔 I think not. She all but says she and her entire family prefer organic fairy dust and tree bark. Edit: ORGANIC and LOCALLY & ETHICALLY SOURCED tree bark.
I have a lot of useless items, but mostly it's from my mom and grandma just giving me stuff all the time. My mom recently gave me q-tips for my bday and I just smiled and said thanks even though I already had a ton. She also gave me more makeup remover wipes when I don't wear makeup hardly, cotton pads when I never paint my nails, and toothpaste when I already have like five full tubes. Gotta love her though.
After shampooing, I place a "dot" of conditioner in my hand and then massage it into my hair from the halfway point on my head (ear level) and down. That way, the conditioner doesn't go onto my scalp and make my hair look limp. Works.
While sugar addiction is real, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the occasional soda drank in moderation. Personally, if I eat out, I get a soda. For my husband and I, eating out is a special occasion, done maybe 3 - 5 times a year, save for the first few months after we move somewhere new (he’s military, so we are always moving, and there’s not always access to a kitchen while you’re either waiting on on-base housing or apartment/house hunting, so eating out becomes more of a necessity than a treat during those times, but that’s once every 3 years) There’s no reason to be afraid of soda. Just drink it in moderation as an occasional treat, and you’ll be fine
Having 5 children, I STILL use baby monitors! We use them as intercoms. We homeschool so they can speak to me from their offices. I can also be there when I am busy helping another child with his work in another room. They know "teacher" is watching and work diligently. We also have a pool and can watch the kids swimming even though they're avid swimmers, I feel comfortable being able to keep an eye on them while outdoors. We also have one as a security camera at the front door window. How can you NOT have a baby monitor system?! Best invention ever! We also have boys and girls in the home- monitors are a great way to assure everyone is safe at night. I 100% believe in baby monitors. She just has not discovered a purpose for them that fits her family like we have!
#10 Caught me by surprise! My husband & I have an electric toothbrush, we change the heads every 90 days! I can't imagine using the same brush/head for 12 months.
Me too.I am not a minimalist yet I’ve said goodbye to many things I have no use for anymore. No fancy gadgets, subscriptions,tv extras(I watch a movie on it now and then, get news online).I want to live with less but I am not a minimalist.I do go in for “cute “ things.
Love you Sarah! You inspire me so much! Thank you for doing what you do. Even though I’m only 14, I would like to be as mature, strong, and responsible as you are when I’m older💛
Me too. That’s why I invested into LastSwab. It’s a brand that creates one reusable washable stick and you can pack it with you anywhere you go. I think not only buying plastic but also wooden or bamboo q-tips are a bad decision (if it’s for your personal use and for your ears) since they are still dirty from the ear and they then belong to trash. But I agree that bamboo q-tips are still WAY better than plastic ones since you can burn used bamboo sticks in your fireplace etc.
An air fryer is amazing! It's the only special item gadget I have in my kitchen and I use it almost every day. I eat better, use only a tiny an mount of oil and it saves sooooo much time. Definitely worth it.
I was using mostly almond milk but recently heard how hard almond farming is on the environment. Due ro the very high demand for almonds, farmers are now drilling deep down into the ground for the amount of water almonds need to grow. This is causing ground to sink and not good in other ways. Have you heard anything about this?
Candace Welsh growing almonds isn’t environmentally as friendly as maybe some other nuts but still better than cows milk. I use oat milk as it has smaller water footprint 🤤
I heard that too! This image helps show the difference in resource use of the most common milks: goveganworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/105755173_milk_alternatives-updated-optimised-nc-1024x720.png
@@Call-me-Al wow, haven't even heard of pea-protein milk! Will see if I can find any in my country to try it but so far I have truly loved nice unsweetened oat milk for all my baking, coffee, morning oats, smoothies etc.
Only things I have on this list are: - Netflix (seriously considering changing this especially once my 1st baby comes in June) - conditioner because my hair is long and I live in the desert lol - paper towels because I have a puppy and I'm not cleaning up her messes with regular towels :P I feel the same way about lash extensions. They're great for the first two weeks and then they're just a nuisance while you wait for them to fall out. Your videos are always very thought provoking! I'm trying to like and comment every time I see one!
I had my boy in November and TRUST ME, don't get rid of netflix! You spend soooo much time sat on your butt nursing (or bottle feeding, if that's what you choose) and you'll need something to entertain you! Babies can nurse for up to 45 minutes, and you can get bored faaast
Yeah I often remember a joke that I saw years ago: a sidewalk sign read "Come on in and save 50%." And the person said to himself, "Or I can just keep walking and save 100%.
So that helps me a lot...
This is hilarious lol
So good! 😂❤
This is great!! I heard a guy who works in advertising say that when see an ad for 20% off to think 80% on!!
@ Judy Frohlich, LOVE THIS!! ❤️✌🏽😝
I never understood how people can only wear clothes a couple times and be done. I'll be honest, I'm 23, and I still wear some clothes from middle school.
Lacie Pratt thought I was the only one 😅
I have a knit sweater I wear still that is 15 years old. I’m honestly surprised it’s still in good condition.
😄 I have a sweater that was my moms when she was in high school! 🤣🤣
Lacie Pratt same😂😂😂...I’m 22 and wear the same clothes with just one or two new things
I was poor and we didn't hoard, probably because we were too poor to afford to buy things to hoard.
That is so true!
Yes, 👏👏
yep, plus you can't buy the more expensive things to replace the other things. Like an electronic toothbrush or the razor thing. Also, often a Netflix subscription will be the main entertainment one can afford.
Y’all are trashing her but honestly look how happy she is talking abt this, minimalism is very effective and a good way to a happy and healthy lifestyle.
True but it’s not minimalism, it’s a pretty normal way to live. You’re just not wasteful
Happy pill? It wasnt on her list
Mea dow yo omg chill out what are you so aggressive and butt hurt that she didn’t use q-tips??💀💀👀
TIP: If something's on sale and you don't need it, it's expensive!
Yes! This is a great tip!
Yes if something is 70% off you save 100% not buying

She is not attacking anyone. If you want to use a baby monitor, than go ahead. She is talking about herself and what she does and doesn't buy and that's it. Just appreciate her content for what it is and stop feeling offended.
Omg finally someone said it like people are becoming too sensitive lately its so annoying and childish, not everything should be offensive!!
She actually said that in her intro, people just enjoy getting offended lol
Yes, to each her own. I appreciate her style and even get an inspiration here and there or sometimes wish I could have her attitude. guess i'm accidentally minimalist by being poor.
Lmaooooo -felt-
Same 😅
Same
I'm poor, I just don't know it
Most people, including myself, actually save a lot of money by not spending excess money.
Very efficient
hahaha
I hear WD40 does all of the above incl cologne :P
Don´t mistake the glue for the toothpaste though xD
Ewww lol
Lool
Something is so liberating about this lifestyle... It's all about shedding all the excess layers and finding what you really need in your life. It's a really personal journey.
When you talked about getting rid of nail polish, I was literally sitting here painting my nails. ☺️ Because I like doing it and I makes me happy.
Just a reminder for all you guys watching, just because a does or doesn't do something, you don't automatically have to follow suit. 😉
I agree I love painting my nails I use gel I was also painting mine when she said that in the last video.
I really like how she said "it's good for *me* ".I love that she has her opinion on things, but doesn't push it on other people
Reading the list makes me realize im partly minimalist😁😉😘
💯
"Me, me me.... blah blah." Great, you do you. It's not relevant to me what she prefers. Give me an objective reason for making the same choices. They exist, she just hasn't bothered to offer them.
its just a triggering topic.

art and decor is not just for looks, it’s supporting art and artists. also it’s encouraging your children that the arts are not ‘meaningless’
Thats why there are art museums out there
An underrated comment
This is kinda discouraging to artists if people just think art is meaningless,, so much hardwork is out into one it does have a meaning😭
I thought the same. Appreciation for art, can not be expected from everyone
Look at her house too. Like she ain't poor lol

@@melissamidkiff7406 you can. I put a dinner plate on ottoman first and then coffee. But I don’t drink coffee or I also don’t have ottoman.🙂
Agreed.
Couldn’t agree more, you said that so perfectly!

I'm a subs since like 2 years ago. I never knew she went to cosmetology school.
I'm more of a minimalist than I realized. You're right about all the extra chemicals in the candles and air fresheners. Great list. Very doable.
I usually love your videos, but I think you misunderstood some items. Baby monitors are not a way to spy on your children or invade their privacy. My younger brother had breathing issues and the monitor was simply used to ensure he breathed through the night. No hate, just thought I should let you know that not all people have the intention of "spying" on their children.
ali james Right. Pretty funny to think you could be invading your infants privacy.
It is just her way of parenting and it is not okay for people that watch her content to comment on her stand as a mother just because she uses a certain product or not.
most of this stuff just seems like preferences not minimalism. I’m not a minimalist and I don’t own most of these things
This may be good to motivate people that have accumulated too much stuff and the really need to de-clutter.
preferences are part of minimalism
Absolutely!!
Maybe you didn't know you were one. That's what I'm beginning to think about myself
Umm everyone , she acknowledged those habbits after years , she noticed that she didn’t need them , like she didn’t think that in one day and told us , also the kids monitor , probably after having three kids she experienced that she can hear her children without it and all

Probably to match outfits buahahahaha🤣
I've never owned more then one at a time. If it breaks, or I get a new phone every 3-5 years, then I get a new case.

Basically dont buy things you don’t need or use. Its not minimalism, it’s just common sense lol
Marie-Michèle Dupéré exactly!
Unfortunately a lot of people in the world don't have common sense anymore, so the fruit of having that common sense is a foreign concept to then that they feel they have to put a label on. It's sad and silly.
Minimalism is different for everyone so..I disagree with that statement :)

Makeup is for the wearer, and it is for feeling mentally and emotionally good about yourself. I relate to this by wearing nice undies. I feel so confident in nice undies even when I know no one else will see them.
I agree, wearing clothes I love makes me feel really confident
Me too!
Suggestions for being minimal when the people you live with are not?
Amber Klaire yes! My husband puts a wall up when I try to declutter. If I suggest donating a shirt that he has had since high school that no longer fits, he says no. Everything is kept “just in case”

Celina Bee she meant somebody could hack it not that she would be the one invading the privacy of her own child. She explained it in another video
there were babies before there were baby monitors...

10 years or so ago, fast fashion wasn't a thing in my country. (Though I did have to fix them a bit since my grandmother was a smaller size than me.)
It's sad that brands like Zara, H&M, Forever 21, etc. have begun to penetrate our market. Not many people think about getting their clothes tailored (and wait weeks for it) anymore since it's much quicker to go to a shop and make a quick buy.

Some of them get pretty expensive, upwards to $200 or so. But eventually they pay for themselves since you aren’t buying a new toothbrush every couple months.
Also u can get toothbrushes for like $30 -$50 from oral b and it is also good quality
In 10 years time I won't have reached that amount of money buying my wooden toothbrushes...
They clean your teeth so much better though. I always used a regular tooth brush and when I made the switch , my teeth felt sooooo much cleaner. It’s worth the extra money for the much better job it does. But mine only costed 50$.
You only buy it once and it’s way better for ur teeth
“I said goodbye to wired bras a long time ago” *like button was pressed*
Tati Martinez why
What is a wired bra? I’m really curious cause I haven’t heard of it, also English isn’t my first language.
Elsie it‘s a bra with these „metal wired“ cups :)
@@katrin_841 It not necessary or safe for anybody to wear them . I am a 44D and don't need them.
wired bras are safe if worn in the correct size and shape. measure yourself and read up on actual bra sizing. you might learn your bra size is completely different than what you thought
I'm so glad I came across this... really makes me think about how much I'm spending on the disposable when I could invest on permanent items
That is exactly what I got from this video too, glad I watched it
Most of these seem more sensible than minimalist.
@Stef McDonald I agree. So many minimalists constantly focus on materialistic items so I find the whole thing kind of superficial.
minimalist by necessity Kathia.
Kathia Hennes How true! And it’s so similar to the traditional Indian mindset. We’re just raised that way to derive maximum out of each rupee spent.
I feel these are first world problems 😉
I just got a safety razor and it’s so much easier to use than the single use ones like oh my god never going back
What razor are you using?
I’m laughing at the baby monitor. I never bought one either but was given one for free when I had my second baby. I plugged it in and within minutes was subjected to a one sided phone call from someone who lived near me. It went on and on. My monitor was on the same wave length as a neighbours cordless phone. I unplugged it and gave it back lol.
If you’re acne prone, I’d be careful with putting coconut oil in your hair or on your face...
I am acne prone and i put alwayq coconut oil on my hair and always remove my make-up with it. And i never have acne problem with coconut oil. But after removing makeup with oil i wash my face twice to remove all oil and after that even if a pimple is trying to comeout it disappears next morning
Yes warning to anyone who sees this: if you’re trying *any* product for the first time make sure you spot test
I slathered coconut oil all over my face (i’m not even oily) and I have never had so much acne in my entire life
Or reusable cotton pads.
Mywish Im coconut oil is one of the worst products you can use as skincare it’s awful for your skin in the long run
Any advice? :)
Also scissors, in all those videos people say they own just one.
It is good to be prepared for some major 'cases' :)
Sending lots of positive energy to all of you :)
Irish Claddagh a small strainer is a good idea!
I´m 100 percent guilty in byuing notebooks. I love them! Even making my own too.
There isn't a way to ethically kill an animal that doesn't want to die. Just saying.
I'm sure animals in the wild dgaf
yeah ! laughed at that. Ethically treated, looked after, raised well and loved.....and eventually killed for your table.
Still more humane ways to do it, morally wrong or not.
And thats why I am vegan... if you feel bad about the animals don't eat them... Just saying
jguzman2801 Me too! (But I still drink milk) It's been years and I don't even like the taste of meat anymore
decor & art doesn't need to be "useful" to be valuable. looking at art in our homes has a lot to offer and benefit us as far as de-stressing & brain function goes. something to think about next time you want to knock anyone who dares put decor in their home haha.
I don't think she's trying to knock anyone down I think it's just her own personal preference maybe
She literally says she’s not trying to put anybody down. It’s what works for her.
@@amymcgee3988 the entire video reeks of judgment for others.
A lot of minimalists include items you appreciate on a regular basis.
I just got an air fryer for my birthday! LITERALLY SO WORTH I use it multiple times a week.
THE TRUTH: A LOT of people would be in a better financial situation right now if they picked up some of these habits. Not all of them, because she is a little intense. Haha 😄
But I applaud her for her discipline. ❤
P!nk Stallion Fitness!!! BAHAHAHAH I know what you mean, but I guess it’s just that we are just too accustomed to some of these things

Works.
Us. Literally ALL OF US will be forced to become minimalists with this recession we are hitting
Eva Stood possibly!
There's a lot of discipline needed to remain so aware of what you truly do and don't need. I envy that!
Both my cats were impulse “it’s so cute” buys😂😂
All three of ours were impulse adoptions too. But they do serve a purpose.... They bring more joy than anything else we've brought into our home. 😁
Elizabeth O so true!!!
My husband hasn’t had a soda in 4 years. He’s afraid if he drinks 1 he’ll be addicted again.
This happend to me. Once I have one.. I'm hooked and I drink daily until I convince myself to get off. It's a serious addiction. I cannot drink one.
I gave up soda 25 years ago.
I drink about 1 can a day....and after going without them for a few days I'll literally CRAVE one. It's crazy.
While sugar addiction is real, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the occasional soda drank in moderation. Personally, if I eat out, I get a soda. For my husband and I, eating out is a special occasion, done maybe 3 - 5 times a year, save for the first few months after we move somewhere new (he’s military, so we are always moving, and there’s not always access to a kitchen while you’re either waiting on on-base housing or apartment/house hunting, so eating out becomes more of a necessity than a treat during those times, but that’s once every 3 years)
There’s no reason to be afraid of soda. Just drink it in moderation as an occasional treat, and you’ll be fine
I don’t drink soda. I don’t like it. Ditto coffee. Mostly I just drink water (from the filtered fridge dispenser).
The foreo bristles are made of silicone so it lasts longer.
@@SarahTherese Oh ok I understand now! Great Video.
I dont consider myself a minimalist at all. However, it’s interesting how many of the same things I do not buy as you.
same
Me too.I am not a minimalist yet I’ve said goodbye to many things I have no use for anymore. No fancy gadgets, subscriptions,tv extras(I watch a movie on it now and then, get news online).I want to live with less but I am not a minimalist.I do go in for “cute “ things.
Most people don't but this stuff...she mentioned nail salons, lash services, smoothies, magazines.
Love you Sarah! You inspire me so much! Thank you for doing what you do. Even though I’m only 14, I would like to be as mature, strong, and responsible as you are when I’m older💛
I love the feeling of using a q-tip 👽
Oat milk and pea-protein milk are quite nice
@@Call-me-Al wow, haven't even heard of pea-protein milk! Will see if I can find any in my country to try it but so far I have truly loved nice unsweetened oat milk for all my baking, coffee, morning oats, smoothies etc.

Only things I have on this list are:
- Netflix (seriously considering changing this especially once my 1st baby comes in June)
- conditioner because my hair is long and I live in the desert lol
- paper towels because I have a puppy and I'm not cleaning up her messes with regular towels :P
I feel the same way about lash extensions.
