my mother was from Buxton and I think it is a nice place. The only thing I find weird is that some shops have the barricaded windows to shut at night presumably to prevent theft. I live in the USA that is a sure sign of a bad area but I don't think Buxton is. Seems overkill and off putting.

No, they are boarded up as they have closed down. The boards are there to stop people sleeping/trespassing in there. Blame online sales.

@@blackporscheroadster6415 @AD Travel @3:10 the big closed down shop on the right is the big Marks & Spencer store that had been there from 1934 until it was closed down in April 2019. That was a big blow to the town and they have been working at finding a retailer to fill that gap since. (The Mountain Warehouse store on the opposite side of the street used to be the Woolworths store until of course that company closed back in 2007. Both were at the heart of Buxton's high street, and would bring people in there who could then go to all the smaller surrounding retailers at the same time)
As well as the online sales, from hearsay around the town the big issue is also extremely high costs of rent for the shops, which may have been the reason for M&S closing (this was before the pandemic too). It's one of the reasons why, as well as not wanting to do all my shopping online, that I try and get out to the shops in town both in Buxton and Chapel-en-le-Frith when I can, to at least play some small part in showing demand
Anyway, thanks AD Travel for the great video, and the one on Chapel. It is strange to see my home town(s) from another perspective!
