Thanks for this! So, so good to see. I was the architect in charge of the Crescent conservation and construction for five years. Sadly, due to the current situation, I haven't had the opertunity to visit recently (I'm up in Scotland but came down every week). All of the designers and contractors are so very proud of what we did and realise how much it means to the local people. It was a VERY difficult project and many of the builders and designers will be life long friends, through adversity shared. This is rare... Personally, I miss all the crazy ducks, clear view of the stars and the lovely staff at the Old Hall and the excellent Grosvenor Guest House as well as the great beer! 👌👍❤️

I was at one time a frequent visitor to Buxton, and I've enjoyed this tour very much. The public buildings are very grand. Well apart from the shopping centre, but that's true of most English shopping centres isn't it? The public building stonework isn't as bright as the Cotswolds, but not as dour as Edinburgh, more a porridge colour unless the sun's very strong, and the park is nice to walk in.

Buxton Derbyshire, a spa town in Derbyshire is the highest market town in England, some 1,000 feet above sea level. Buxton is close to the county boundaries of Cheshire to the west and Staffordshire to the south, on the edge of the Peak District National Park.

So glad I've found your channel! Lived in Stoke on Trent for many years about half an hour from Buxton, so been there many times. Beautiful town and you're now making me want to go back again for a refresh!! BTW directly opposite The Crescent is St Anne's Well where you can literally 'take the waters'. The water filters through the peak district limestone hills and emerges beautifully crisp and refreshing from the Well. Many people turn up with bottles and cannisters to fill up! The Opera House houses some great artistes. Particularly remember a (drummer) Cozy Powell tribute concert there years ago where guitar god Brian may (Queen) made a special appearance! Thanks for posting. Have just subscribed and am off to view a few more of your walks!!

Hi, dad got his first car in 1956 when I was 10 years old during the Suez Crisis, once petrol was a bit easier to get we used to visit Buxton often before moving on to Matlock and Matlock Bath.
He used to stop on the Bakewell Road next to Ashwood Park an area you didn’t visit in your film.
He had a friend who served on the same destroyer in WW2 who ran the Hope and Anchor in Wirksworth, while in the area we visited the Well Dressing's around Derbyshire.
Next year is our 50th wedding anniversary and before setting of on our driving honeymoon to the West Country we spent our wedding night at the Palace Hotel.
Apart from the obvious the memories were of trying to persuade a ginormous moth to fly out of the window and the hotel not charging for a half bottle of wine with our meal, as a Yorkshireman that certainly sticks in the mind :-)

Another great video! Three suggestions for future walks:
    1) The Northumberland market town of Hexham. It has one of the oldest railway stations in the world (1835), the historic Hexham Abbey (AD 674) and some picturesque riverside views at Tyne Green.
    2) The traditional little farming village of Goostrey, set in the beautiful Cheshire countryside which is next to the very famous and spectacular Jodrell Bank Radio Telescope Observatory (open for tours).

@@GimbalWalkTV It's a tricky one. It's in Derbyshire so officially it's East Midlands, but it's often classed as North West. The local ambulance service is East Midlands, the water authority is Severn Trent in line with the rest of the wider Midlands, but the local TV is North West. However, in Earl Sterndale a few miles to the south they get their TV news from Birmingham.
If you look at a map of England and divide it into three, Buxton would definitely be in the Midlands, as would Manchester and Sheffield for that matter. Personally I think most of Cheshire is geograpically in the Midlands, although not politically.

I am aware that Sarah Duncan, who played Lady Victoria in the 'Royal Flush' episode of 'Only Fools and Horses', has said that the interior shots of the opera were filmed in Buxton. I have watched the episode where the interior wall of the theatre and the ends of the stalls seats are shown. I have compared these with photographs taken inside the Buxton Opera House (BOH). They clearly do not match and I must conclude that the interior opera scenes could not have been filmed at the BOH. I am disappointed as I live in Buxton but cannot argue with the evidence of my own eyes!

I use to live near Buxton, love the place but on last visit to see how some areas have dilapidated ie the market place and along Spring gardens and the Fairfield road into Buxton. Also heard some years back they took overspill from a Manchester council estate into an estate up above the Leek Road, a few problems with fly tipping and lowering of tone etc since...but this has happened with many towns over the past decades...My thought is will change - if has not done already as that was back in late 90's - maybe someone can let me know? - onward and upward. They have done a good job with renovations on St Annes hotel though dismayed at what they have done with the bedrooms, the interior designer they used should be shot - lol. My preference would be The Old Hall Hotel :-) at least until they sort out those bedroom at St Anne's.
