    Important note - this is a 1.6 engine. maybe someone else will miss this important detail... for a 1.4 the part looks a lot different, albeit it is in the same position. it is also easier to get to, than this one. thanks for the video, i'm really loving this series.

    If you are struggling with the back pipe, heres how i did it;
    I first disconnected the other pipes, battery and electric connections of the thermostat. Spray some oil on the difficult connection hose and wiggle with the housing so the oil spreads. Then i used a strap rope with hooks and put it under tension ( i hooked it up at the hose connection point that goes to the air heater) and i got the hooks locked on the front chassis. Put it under tension, then get a crowbar and use that on the front side of the thermostate housing. Build up the tension and you will get it out, hopefully. Good luck

    Thanks very much for this tutorial it’s excellent. One question I had is how on earth can the clip at the back be put back on due to limited space. The best solution I can come up with is using 2 pairs of 45 degree bent needle nose pliers then feed the clip up with 1 pair and attempt to lower it using both pairs. Looks a horrific job though as I cant even get my fingers in. Do you guys have any further ideas how this can be done?? Thanks.

    Hi,
    looking at this video one could imagine it looks very simple but for having changed the thermostat on 2 Peugeot 308, 1.6 VTI 120hp (2011), I can tell you that it is much more difficult than shown in the video.
    The access is relatively restricted and especially putting the locking clip on the water pipe (the one connecting the thermostat to the water pipe at the backside of the engine) is very tricky and may need 2mins or several hours !
    And I consider myself not as a beginner as maintaining all my cars for some 45 years now...
    The designers of his engine should be ashamed for having created such non reliable parts. Even worse, the replacement parts might not be much more reliable and might leak again after a couple of years !

    • @autodocuk
      @autodocuk  2 роки тому +1

      Our video for acquaintance and of course the replacement can be individual for each, depending on the complexity of the situation.

      I can only agree. I've actually removed the entire inlet, removed the engine supports so the engine could be tilted forward so there's "some kind of" access. It was leaking like crazy, and it was just the clip that was missing. Just that single clip took me multiple hours. Really bad design, especially since it's not accessible from below either, so even a car lift isn't going to help.

    Hi, I have a couple of questions. Is the engine running when you bleed the thermostat housing? Is the lid supposed to be off of the coolant overflow? He puts the lid on, but it looks like it's off when the bleed is happening.

    • @2stepsaway820
      @2stepsaway820 Рік тому

      Yes run the engine - will bleed the air much quicker and have the lid off the expansion tank.

    I had a leak on Peugeot 308 1.4 70kw from 2008. It was caused by cracked thermostat housing. Thermostat housing seems to be manufactured from two parts connected together, so it was leaking in the point of connection of one part to second.
    I found the leak by pressurizing system by drilling hole into reservoir cap and inserting/glueing in valve from bicycle inner tube. Then pressurizing to 1-2 bars (pay attention here not to destroy something with overpressurizing)
    When choosing replacement pay attention to number of thermostat inputs/outputs. Basically there should be one input and one output for front cooler. One input and output for cabin cooler. One hose to engine. And if the car has intercooler for turbo or for cooling something else, then there is additional input/output.
