An amazing man! Lived near me in Baltimore County, Maryland. He was the County building inspector and also did alot for kids sports!!! A very respectable and wonderful person.
Volkoff's voice isn't terrible. It's a deep rich baritone, and he probably could have been a pretty good singer with some vocal training, but it fit his heel role to not have such training. Even so, he can generally carry a tune, even if he's a bit flat at times. He's certainly a far better singer than, say, Cap'n Lou.
I've always loved Nikolai, and I always thought this song was fantastic. Pure gimmicky cheese, and Nikolai's Red Army Choir-grade voice soaring across it. I love it. =)
Nikolai was my favorite wrestler growing up in the 80s. Even though he was a heel, he always had a smile on his face. From what I heard he was a great guy.
R.I.P Nikolai you’re run in the WWE/WWF is one of the best knowing that you were a memorable heel and one of the best international wrestlers ever known
It's hard seeing these legends from my childhood, passing away. But Nikolai left his mark as an entertaining fella, and will be remembered as such. Thank you, Mr. Volkoff!
as anyone noticed that apart from vladimir kozlov all the russian characters in wrestling were not actually played by russians, the koloff's were american, boris zhukoff was also american and of course everybody knows rusev is bulgarian.
Best one was during The Wrestling Classic the WWF held in 1984 or 85 it was held at Rosemont Horizon just outside of Chicago. Dynamite Kid wrestled Volkoff in the 1st round and right as Nikoli started insulting the crowd there goes Dynamite off the top rope drop kick cover and done!!!
Volkoff didn't make the cover. Just look who as passed away on the cover. Randy Savage, Miss Elizabeth, Captain Lou,, Freddie Blassie and JYD. I had this on cassette when it came out.
Actually. he is part Croatian and part Russian. At the time he lived there, Croatia was a part of Yugoslavia. His mother was Russian, and his father was Croatian.
Jaimie Rain I saw in a documentary where Volkoff's character was initially created, he didn't want to do it because he was very anti-communist. I forget who it was, could have been Verne Gagne from AWA, maybe Vince McMahon, they told Volkoff, if you really hate Communism and the USSR then the best thing you can do to fight against would be to play this character well and be a really bad guy that the fans would hate
Yeah they are terrible with politics in that orginasation. Communism came down in 1991 and gone were the Bolsheviks, and then came the gulf war, so they made an Iraqi team, led by an Iranian Iron Sheik and american Sgt Slaughter..hahah
I met Nikolai in 2014 and am so happy I didn’t miss the chance to tell him what a great voice he had, as much as we all booed him when he sang the Soviet anthem.
Best classic wrestling legend singer of all time Nicholai his wrestling was ok this and The Great Captain Lou Al Bano music on this album was my fun child hood memory just waiting for the next wrestling game when ps2 came out I bought Showdown Legends of Wrestling is waa my great game.
Three friends/ me purchased this - early 1986 - at our local record store ; shop assistant said the LP had just been walkin' out the door ! We flogged it to death.. table tennis games, bongs etc !!
His singing voice was actually terrible that's why I used to get a kick out opponents closelineing him from behind or drop kicking him AS HE WAS HITTING THE HIGH NOTE!!!!!!!
@123torrent I think that was the idea, to have the worst song ever recorded. Nikolai Volkov was a heel character and this was supposed to be the tongue-in-cheek humor that played up to that.
Listening to Nikolai's voice, I honestly think he had the potential to be. A pretty good Oprea Singer.

In loving memory of Nikolai Volkoff.
First thing I thought of after his passing, such a great voice. RIP Nikolai
same :(
I've always loved Nikolai, and I always thought this song was fantastic. Pure gimmicky cheese, and Nikolai's Red Army Choir-grade voice soaring across it. I love it. =)
***** It has a certain amount of cheese, but I think that the cheesiest track of the album is "Captain Lou's History of Music".
+Dom Tetreault I met him one time.
I got a chance to meet him in the early 90s at a show in my hometown. I gave him a US flag. He really loved this country and was a good guy.
Bill Brackett He was.
Renato Costa RIP Volkoff
Couldn't have said it better myself. Nikolai played the part to perfection. Can sing too. This was my favorite song on the album too...
Was spontaneously singing this today, haven't heard it for 35 years.
RIP Nikolai.
Voice of an angel.
RIP Nikolai a great professional and human being
It's hard seeing these legends from my childhood, passing away. But Nikolai left his mark as an entertaining fella, and will be remembered as such. Thank you, Mr. Volkoff!
No autotune either. He really DID sound that good!
The ending is awesome ha ha!
as anyone noticed that apart from vladimir kozlov all the russian characters in wrestling were not actually played by russians, the koloff's were american, boris zhukoff was also american and of course everybody knows rusev is bulgarian.
Actually, Ivan Koloff is Canadian and Volkoff is Croatian
+Anthony Bradley, well, Kozlov isn't from Russia either. He's from Ukraine
+Anthony Bradley Kozlov is from Ukraine
Volkoff was actually from Yugoslavia.
I thought Volkoff was Lithuanian
RIP Volkoff. Sing at the Wrestlefest in the sky, Macho Man Is Wrestling Warrior.

Fitting song for today...RIP Nikolai Volkoff!! :(
God speed, Nikolai...
Best song on the album!
Nikolai Volkoff's deep baritone suits this song so well! He's actually Yugoslavian & not Russian.
Namely Croatian.
Nikolai actually had a fine singing voice but this song is meant for a tenor and not a baritone like Nikolai.
Pure gold
HWRshow just got through with a great interview with Nikolai (over at soundcloud)
Loved this Album. And THIS IS WHEN WRESTLING WAS AWESOME. Not the crap now
BigCheech 4509 I loved the Wrestling album too..played at many wild parties here in Melbourne, Australia!
He was a classically trained opera singer just FYI. Actually a pretty good rendition here, RIP.
WWE if you can read this PLEASE make this available on mp3 I cannot find it
They never let the Governor sing for shame 🇺🇸
Haha...Listen this!
Jesse was right, Nikolai had a beautiful voice. RIP Sir.
Our childhood
This is actually really good.
Hava Nagila Hava Nagila
Volkoff didn't make the cover. Just look who as passed away on the cover. Randy Savage, Miss Elizabeth, Captain Lou,, Freddie Blassie and JYD. I had this on cassette when it came out.
Actually. he is part Croatian and part Russian. At the time he lived there, Croatia was a part of Yugoslavia. His mother was Russian, and his father was Croatian.
Nikolai Volkoff's voice was actually better than Jay and the Americans....?
Jay Black could learn a thing or two from the great Nikolai Volkoff!!"
I'm not really into the Whitfield version. I really dig this version, Slim Whitman's version and Jay & The Americans' version. Pure gold.
Eat your heart out, Jay Black.
LOL that.s all i have to say the end makes me Laugh
Not a bad effort but the backup singers weren't good and Vince appearing ruined it.
how did this win worst song he sang better than most in land of a thousand dances :)
lol Nikolai was actually Croatian, kind of a fascist and hated the USSR
Hahah yeah, and the other guy in the Bolsheviks was American
Jaimie Rain
I saw in a documentary where Volkoff's character was initially created, he didn't want to do it because he was very anti-communist. Jaimie Rain lol yea Iron Shiek who is really from Iran hated having to be an Iraqi for WWF
+Jonny Boozewitz He was billed Russian?
In Memory Of Nikolai Volkoff
RIP Big Nikolai
My mom got me this album for good grades in school, TY for posting this 5 stars my friend.
RIP Nikolai Volkoff. Thank you for the wonderful memories. If there was anyone that was genuinely entertaining, it was you.
I met Nikolai in 2014 and am so happy I didn’t miss the chance to tell him what a great voice he had, as much as we all booed him when he sang the Soviet anthem.
You two dudes get back here now! ITS MY TURN TO SIIING!! lol I used to love that when I was a kid.
It’s sad that so many of these wrestlers and managers on this album have passed away.
R.I.P MY BROTHER NIKOLAI IN HEAVEN!!!!
So many great memories with this album!

RIP Nikolai
'Til the end of time, Nikolai.
Our beloved (Cara mia) Nikolai, may you rest in peace, memory eternal Vecenaja Pamjat!
His singing voice was actually terrible that's why I used to get a kick out opponents closelineing him from behind or drop kicking him AS HE WAS HITTING THE HIGH NOTE!!!!!!!
Wow, pleasantly surprised by this.
@123torrent I think that was the idea, to have the worst song ever recorded. Nikolai Volkov was a heel character and this was supposed to be the tongue-in-cheek humor that played up to that.
Jay and The Americans probably heard this and said and we gave them permission to use this song because?
I'm so happy to see the many tributes to Mr. Volkoff heaven has a great star now
R. I. p Mr. Volkoff
they wolud sell him as "the tenor" instead a generic bad russian
Could've been part of the Red Army Choir ☭
"I can not believe it; make me puke!"
wish i still had this record
Who the hell is Cara mia?
Oh BOY, what a joke! Glad u stuck to wrestling. RIP Nicolai Volkoff.
His voice was great singing this.. always the non talent haters
Sung 2 perfection!
Here from the excellent Jericho podcast comparing Wrestling music albums. Forgot about this - a gem of a song.
I still have my original tape. Bought and owned by only me. Someone else will own it when I die.
The irony is that this song is that this song was originally recorded by a band called Jay & The Americans.
@ItsFrankieBoy Jesse got screwed. IT'S A CONSPIRACY!!!!! (I had to say it.)
I used this for his entrance music for my ljn figure of Volkoff 😂
Here's to you, Soviet. Godspeed.
I freaking love his voice on this song
Rock in Peace, Big Nikolai.
One of the most memorable singers. One of the best versions of the song.
