I rarely comment on videos but I had just had to stop and do so today. I recently decided that I haven't taken enough vacations in my life and I am planning out a Europe trip as well as trips around the USA to different national parks and wildlife refuges. I purchased a T7i with a kit lens because I thought that would be good enough. I went on my first hike and took a bunch of pictures that I thought came out great. I found your channel recently and have watched dozens of your videos and subsequently downloaded Lightroom and Photoshop as well as ordered 4 more lenses. Your channel and grid are inspiring and I just want to thank you for that inspiration and making everything so simple and understandable.
Love you Pete! I’m a 15 yo filmmaker, and I am now regularly charging clients for high end jobs, in fact I just had one with a 25k budget. And people keep asking me if I’ve been to Film school and what not, and I just tell them “No, I’ve watched Peters McKinnon’s videos. Thanks Peter, I’ve learned so much from you. (Edit: I didn’t get 25k, that was the budget they gave me for casting and crew and all that as well. I got 2.5k)
I really really appreciate you being so kind and wise about photography careers like when you said the more you shoot the more you practice the better you will be. It gives me hope that someday I’ll be able to actually execute the many ideas I have in my head that my hands still don’t know how to do.
Dude, pop can is midwest American and west coast as well. Couldn't stand the "soda" when I lived 10+ years in NY or calling everything "coke" in the south regardless of the type of pop. Look up Faygo, red pop, orange pop, etc... very Midwestern lol
The simple but effective suggestion of asking people to step back (if they're photographers of course), so that you can all grab the 'perfect' shot is a fantastic and I'll be using that in the future. Your tutorials are a life-saver for the skint but keen creative.
That is flipping MAGIC! Watched this video a while ago, but only just used this on a photo for a client (because my clone stamping sucks) IT IS INCREDIBLE!! Peter, thank you for making these tutorials and sharing this info - it is SO useful!! Sending hugs from the UK! x
nice tutorial and alot of neat tips but my favorite way still is to use a tripod and take multiple shots of the same thing then combine them in photoshop with a script and it will remove the people by combing all the photos together.. this way is preferred because it will be the actual pixels and details there were missed as opposed to just covering them up with pixels already in frame
I only saw one video before I subscribed. It’s been only a day and I already think this is the most helpful channel on videography and photography and I love it.
I am so glad I stumbled upon your page. My teachers could not teach me this while I am in college. You are a hero for all the youth getting into photography!
I started photography as a hobby in 2009, and avoided PS like the plague until finding your channel. I'm still not a huge fan, but your videos have been amazing for learning the few things I now do with it. Thank You so much.

Having that blackout curtain down from the main window is so much better just a lot nicer light. And more smooth and it seems to make the footage look better and the camera focus a bit better.
As a cosplay photographer who usually does shoots at Cons, the clone stamp is literally my best friend. I’ve never used the content aware fill tool though, so I’ll have to try it! Thank you 😊
you can also use the "Image Statistic" route in Photoshop. Take couple of photos on a tripod, then on photoshop File>Scripts>Statistics. On the popup pick the photos and also set "choose stack mode" to "median" or "mean". After that then do the content aware edits. This is also another method to remove some grains on an image in low light, high ISO situations.
I follow the same steps, when I click Shift+Delete, content aware does not open up, and I get a white coverage on the selected area. What's going on, anyone can help? Many thanks
I can not say how much I've learned since I started watching your videos. Ive gained so much more confidence from the knowledge you have bestowed haha. thanks again man!! continue doing your amazing art!!
Hey peter, would it be possible to do some breakdowns of your photos? So like going through some of your favorite photos and talking about what you like about them and you’re thought process in taking them? As a new photographer i find it fascinating seeing experienced photographers breakdown their own photos.
Hi from France. I have been using Lightroom for years but I have always been so terrified of learning Photoshop for some reason. At the end of 2021, I am just starting to learn to use it with basic features : first one beeing how to split images in two for a nice effect on Instagram. Second feature will be what you just show here. Awesome video and awesome content Peter. Best UA-cam channel find in a long time. Hopefully I can return to Canada for a longer period to photograph some of its incredible landscapes (I've only been in Quebec and Montreal).
I tried using the lasso and then shift delete in photopea (free online photoshop) and it just removed that part completely, like a PNG. Please help! :)
Peter McKinnon I sensed a mafia joke in there somewhere (getting rid of people) 😂 Thank you yet again for this. I’ve been using Photoshop since version 3.0 and somehow did not know about the content aware delete 🤔
What version of Photoshop are you using? If I use the Lasso tool, shift delete, it removes the object, but leaves a blank canvas behind. I don’t get the Content-Aware box when I hit Shift>Delete.
Hi, by default I think Photoshop brings "fill with background color" or something like that, you need to choose "Content-aware" in the first box ("content:")
Oh you may be right! But look if you have the "Spot Healing brush tool" or "Patch tool" in the tool bar (I'm pretty sure you have it)! It does the same job !
even quicker, hit W for the wand tool, and use the new, subject select mode, (works scary good) you can refine it with the wand or lasso tool, and then use content aware.
I have never used content aware fill ever, very cool tip! Working on PC I found "Fill" under the Edit menu or the Shift + F5 Short cut. I typically always used the Healing brush tool in the same way you would use the clone stamping tool. I just tried this to remove a seagull from the beach and it was very cool, It did require some tweaking, but was very cool!
