  • Recipe here: www.joyofbaking... Stephanie Jaworski of Joyofbaking.com demonstrates how to make a Strawberry Chiffon Shortcake. Up until now, I always made Strawberry Shortcake using scones that were cut in half and filled with fresh strawberries that were mascerated in sugar and whipped cream. While a real family favorite, sometimes I like to make it another way. What I do is to use two layers of a light and spongy Golden Chiffon Cake. I then sandwich the layers together with a flavorful Strawberry Compote and lots of Whipped Cream. It's so delicious, I just had to share this recipe with you.

    Stephanie, I love when you out do yourself! Everything you do is great but occasionally you taste something and it's clear you hit the ball out of the park for yourself!
    This looks great. So glad to know a chiffon will work in a regular pan. I've been making one similar using a standard sponge cake, but the light chiffon will be so much better. THANKS!

    I made this cake last night and Wow! How heavenly it was! Amazing texture and flavor! Received compliments from all who had it and no one left any on their plate. Somehow I like this chiffon even better than your orange chiffon cake (which is my husband’s favorite and I’ve baked it 20 times). Maybe because this one has a little more eggs and little less flour, I don’t know...
    After I saw in the video that your batter filled nearly to the top of the pans and formed a dome shape in the oven, I decided to baked mine in 9x3 pans instead and I’m glad I did. The cakes rose beautifully and after they cooled down and slight deflation, I had a little over 2 inch thickness on each layer. Thank you so much! :)

    Because it was a rough couple of days and because I am an adult (some days), Saturday brunch was a slice of Stephanie Jaworski's chiffon cake with macerated slices of fat, juicy, freshly-picked strawberries. And yes, served with a squirt of whipped cream from a can - it's all very high end out here at Mountain, Ontario. LoL. I don't eat a lot of dessert these days, much less for breakfast, but this hit the spot on this sunny Saturday morning. This is my go-to recipe for a perfectly light layer of cake that soaks up berry juice beautifully. Like everything I've tried here on JoB, the recipe never fails. Thanks as always, Stephanie for a top-shelf, reliably great recipe! You're the best.

    If you don't have cake flour on hand you can make your own. For every one cup of all purpose flour remove one tablespoon and substitute with one tablespoon of cornstarch make sure to sift it well. I don't buy cake flour it's extremely expensive where I live it's over $4.00 for a box which equals out 4 cups. Great recipe thanks for sharing! 😊

    • @d.denissemm
      @d.denissemm 7 років тому +1

      selenia carrico Sorry, cake flour is not just adding corn starch. Cake flour comes from the core of wheat, and it's a very fine flour. You don't get the same result. However, I've made chiffon cakes using all purpose flour with the corn starch, and they're amazing.

    • @BrownEyes71
      @BrownEyes71 7 років тому +1

      Yes ma'am it is that's all you have to do to make cake flour Stephanie even commented it also. I bake all the time and I make my own cake flour and my desserts turn out beautiful.

    • @d.denissemm
      @d.denissemm 7 років тому +1

      selenia carrico, the corn starch may change the texture a bit, but it absolutely is not the same as cake flour.
      "The primary difference between cake flour and all-purpose (AP) flour is the protein content (which becomes gluten). The protein content of cake flour is about 8%, while the protein content of AP flour is about 10-11%. When you're making cakes, you want to use a flour that's lower in protein"

    should i buy cake pans that are not nonstick? i feel like my cake pans are just super nonstick.. i dont put a lot of butter in the pans with other cakes and they literally fall out... i feel like this cake wont ever climb the sides up and rise if i use these pans :/

    • @joyofbaking

      For this type of cake, where you have to turn the pans upside down for cooling, I wouldn't use non stick pans.

      gotcha.... thats what i was guessing.... i went shopping the other day and saw an angel food cake pan that was completely nonstick and i kept thinking i wonder if that would work, i just cant imagine it would and your pans didnt look to be nonstick, so im glad to have it confirmed!! thanks!
