Lockdown Project: Aprilia RSV1000R Mille Gen 2 Barn Find Rebuild Restoration Project 2004

- In this series i'll be rebuilding a 2004 Aprilia RSV 1000 R Mille thats fallen into disrepair. This bike is a Gen 2 Aprilia RSV project, a one owner bike that's been off the road for years.
In part one i'll be stripping down the Aprilia RSV Project Bike, removing the fairings and bodywork to reveal what needs to be replaced and rebuilt. I start to realise just how expensive an Aprilia RSV 1000 project can really be.

They are reliable as hell, well worth fixing it,, i have 07 model ,with full acropovic system,, what a beast
Hi, you should check the swing arm !!!! There was a factory recall back in 2004. A crack start on the inside of the left arm, where the lower chain guard is fixed.
thanks for that... was getting frustrated as hell scrolling through his vids & NO info on why he was replacing it... looking at an 02 barn find track bike rebuild... missing fairings & bits but runs... not sure yet if its viable
The bl00dy fly got me around 12:00 mark :-D I was trying to sweep it away from my monitor, only to realise when I pause the video, it stopped! I'm considering buying one of these, so this series will be an interesting one to watch.
Looking forward to seeing the progress on this one mate! 👌🏻
Cheers dude, hope all is well your end.
Nice gonna follow this. Rebuilding a 2004 myself that used to belong to a relative but has been stolen so it's completely thrashed.
Ah man you definitely gotta do a full track bike build with that 👌👌
Well that was the plan, but I sourced a set of lovely Factory fairings which saved it as a road bike - its going to look awesome!
The first thing i did to my touno gen2 was fitting those oxford heated grips. They are absolutely must have!
Miika Venäläinen only if you ride in the cold or wet 😏
The oil level is spot on! You'll soon have a lot more oil in the airbox if you put too much oil in it.
Heat the engine up to operating temperature and check the level while the bike is upright. Oil level should never be in the top of the gauge. It should be right in the middle just after shutting off the engine.
Aprilia 1000 is an interesting choice for a project given its going to get expensive for you but its all the more entertaining for us the viewer! :-) Good luck! Following the series.
You are a brave man. I thought that the last project bike was bad to start with, but this one will need a lot more work! Good luck!
I enjoy the work it’s like meditation... Expensive meditation
Loving the new build mate 👍 waiting to see the rs125 finished, I’m mid way through doing my rs125 that has also had a really hard life
Thanks mate the RS has been sold, I just need to put the video together. How’s yours coming along?
If you haven’t bought the new nose intake. Then it’s repairable. Super glue it in position with the lugs attached to the frame so you preserved the geometry. Remove “V” out the areas damaged. And use carbon fibre and the according resin. This allows the lugs to flex and be tightened up without fracturing! Build up from small cuttings of cloth to slightly larger till you get to 4 layers! Then re bore the bolt holes!!
You will not find this part cheap!!! The forks you might find are cheaper!!! Lol. I re plated my bolts. Mine is the 05 factory that I rebuilt. As the frame was to damaged in the crash it had. New frame, and front end. The parts bill second hand was around £800! Without the frame.
If you need any info don’t hesitate to message me. As if you haven’t done so I’d remove the stator cover check the armature for heat damage! As Aprilia used a high magnetised flywheel that put out far to much power. The armature and the rectifier both burn out! The best thing to do if it’s still serviceable, is to put higher drawing headlight bulbs on it. Keeping them on all the time. This helps reduce the resistance in the system. And will save you thousands! As removing the flywheel is a Cxxt of a job! I replaced my armature rectifier using a company that has the best compromise to solve this problem. As a rewind won’t last 10 miles!!
Anyway love the approach! Gonna watch the rest now!!
I've got the original levers & voltage regulator off my '04 RSVR if you need them...
Already replaced thanks mate
Looks like you’ve got a right job on your hands there! Just don’t let the wife see the parts bill!!! 😂
Fortunately she doesn't ask questions she doesn't want to know the answers to.... Haha!
Keep in mind that the oil level is checked after engine has been running so what looks like a low level now will be normal when warm. Look forward to seeing how this one pans out Ben.....
Good shout Stu, the amount of oil that came out when I drained it suggested that is wasnt low haha. Got to put it all back together now!
Come on mate get that last rs 125 vid up. Myself (40 year old ) and 3 of my mates have all bought 20 year old rs 125s and ripping around on um like 17 year old 😄.
The bike has gone to its new owner the issue is that I’m still waiting on the bodywork so can’t finish the videos until then.
Hè cool man, I have the same project at the moment👍
The damage to the inside of the fork legs is from the leaking master cylinder from the corrosive brake fluid.
I thought it might be, but i've never seen it that bad before!
Its Aluminium cancer, starts off from the rubbing of electrical cables or brake lines removing the anodising then the oxidisation of the aluminium.
Hey, on your query about the rear suspension ride height being too low. This can be adjusted from the two nuts at the bottom of the shock (one being just a lock nut) From your video it also looks like your spring preload is wound right out. This isn't normal. Generally the spring is compressed more (you'll have to check the manual for recommended preload and spring length). Judging by the condition of the bike I would definitely take the rear suspension linkage apart and inspect and regrease the bearings (or likely replace them with bearings from AF1 Racing) I just rebuilt my whole rear suspension after it decided to explode in a spectacular fashion. These aprilia components are more sensitive to worn linkage bearings than I've seen on other motorbike types.
John Smith thanks mate turns out it had a lowering linkage on it which was a ball ache as I had to change the side stand back too 🙄
@@letsreviewit8925 posted that message before seeing your follow up video. Very nice job on the bike 👍
Nice one mate 👍
Thanks mate how’s the pond going?
@@letsreviewit8925 after all your great advice, it picking up really well👍 so thank you.
Do you think this project gonna be more of a head ache more then the rs?😂
Where about in Cornwall you go, you could came and seen me 🤣
We picked the bike up from St Ives it’s been ok so far mate but it’s certainly harder to work on. Glad the pond is going ok mate!
@@letsreviewit8925 pretty much at the bottom then 😂 that was a long drive I bet.
Im looking forward to watching this build now👍.
Thank you. One day Ill have as many followers as you 💪💪🤣
A man after my own heart, first an RS125 and now a Mille, mine was also mingin' but not as bad as yours I think. Given the odd collection of damage yours has I would be tempted to check its straight before getting too far in to it. The good thing about these bikes is they are worth more in parts so they are a good investment however bad they are :) Interested to see how it goes.
Thanks for watching, I only bought it because it was straight and the right price haha. I've owned a few of them and love them, so was really excited to give it a go. Its got a good home ear marked so lets hope i do a good job haha
I'm thinking of a new project I was considering a Hayabusa streetfighter project, but parts are through the roof on those there seems to be alot of parts for these about at the moment for a fairly decent price to get it running ....
Really struggling to rebuild a mille atm. Hoping i can learn something from your rebuild here
What problems have you run into?
please tell me the guy selling this bike paid you to take it away 😅
i have a 2007 aprilia tuono it has 65,000 i bought it new , its has problems hold a charge. And the aprilia shop i bought from says that they don't work on 0ld aprilia ,so i guess i need to try to fix it my self . is it hard to do?
If you don't need a new battery then next I'd look to the stator as next on the list unless you have a powe drain somewhere the stator is a pretty some job
I have an rs250 I have owned from new. I want to restore it but in Australia parts are like impossible to get. Where do you get your OEM parts?
Most parts are imported from overseas.
Hello mate,
Just bought 2006 rsv 1000r, and looks brilliant.
Bike was damaged and I'm replacing bits on it.
Unfortunately it looks like gear selector struggles with neutral and going through all the gears. Bike has 11k miles, do you think it's related to clutch slave cylinder?
It’s very possible. It’s an easy fix though and worth a look if you are relatively mechanically minded?
@@letsreviewit8925 heh, not patient but will get seals and repair kit for clutch and clutch slave. Hopefully will get it working.
Also, really liked your videos mate. :)
Looks like the amount of rust I have on my gen1 I bought down the SW. That loveerly sea air...
None Given it’s aaaaall gone now 🙂
@@letsreviewit8925 ha, lucky you! I'm still trying to get rid of it
how much did you pay for this?
some people shouldn't be allowed to own bikes... the poor thing :'(
Get ta AP workshops n Griff mate
Pet hate is those cheap Chinese levels just leave the standard one on 😂
