    In this video I give my long term user review of the Godox VL150 COB LED Light. This cheaper alternative to the Aputure 120D LED video light has really impressed me and as a low cost light compared to the 120D it seems to really hit the mark. Let me know your favourite video lights?

    Wow, I watched a ton of light review videos back 10-15 years ago when this new generation of low-power cool lights was just getting started… and it was a mess.
    I think you do REALLY good reviews.
    Very cogent. Precise language.
    Right to the point - all the points someone actually using the light would like to know.
    Cheers mate!

    Great video. I needed a long term review like this one. However, would have been interesting to know if there's a green magenta shift at all.

    • @cameracravings3216

      I’d say a slight magenta shift, but something that’s easily corrected in camera white balance.

    Great review! You mentioned you use the VL150 for photography as well as video. I'm looking for a light that can do both, do you find this one has adequate output for product/portrait photography? Or do you wish you had a little more power for taking photos?

    • @cameracravings3216
      @cameracravings3216  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Chris, thanks! Yes I’ve used it for both portraits (headshots mainly) and product shoots and it’s been up to the job. But I have found I’ve needed to use it at 85-100%, so I’d say if you can afford to go for the more powerful version (vl200 or 300) or use extra lights instead to bump up the power. The other thing I have found would be useful for certain situations is if the light was bi-colour so maybe also worth considering other lights in their range if that’s something you think you’ll use/need. Hope that’s helpful.

      @@cameracravings3216 Thanks, that's very helpful. I now have a starting point for continuous lighting output for photography (VL150). I'll check the price difference on the VL200 & VL300. Would you recommend a second VL150 for a fill light, or would a smaller light like the SL60W suffice? Can you recommend a battery to run the VL150 for around an hour? I don't know if I'd need bi-colour lights, I usually colour correct in post if needed. I think I'd prefer a linear output rather than variable when a bi-coloured light shifts back and forth from the daylight to warm LEDs.
      PS - I watched your video on softbox comparisons. I wish I could get the Bessel here in Canada, but it looks like I'll have to go with either the Godox QR-P90 35.4" softbox or the Aputure Lightdome Mini II softbox. Do you find you're using the Lightdome Mini II more for offsite photo shoots due to its smaller size?

    • @cameracravings3216
      @cameracravings3216  2 роки тому

      Hi yeah I think an sl60w or similar would be fine for fill. With Batteries, I’ve got a 190ws baxxtar but I’ve had issues with it so I’m not sure I’d recommend.
      Yes I’ve been using the lightdome mini more and more particularly for run and gun stuff and quick interview setups at events it’s not as soft as a larger light source but is great when out and about or if you quickly need to move between places.

      I really like the fact that you're using and reviewing Godox equipment instead of Aputure. I don't have an Aputure sized budget, and I suspect a lot of other people out there are in the same boat. Thanks for the advice, and keep up the great work!

    I have the VL-150II and recently purchased the RC-A5II remote. Have the remote on the corresponding channel for the VL-150 and can't get it to control the light. So I ordered another remote and it still doesn't control the light. I can use the phone app to control the light just fine. Any ideas what the issue might be?

      It has a v mount battery plate included with the light that plugs into the controller. Battery just slots onto the plate (very straight forward)

      You could use them outdoor (I’ve used mine for a mountain biking interview and photoshoot in the woods where it was dappled light), but it think to overpower the sun you’ll probably want more power like the VL300.

      Sorry to butt in but I have one of these and it works like a charm for outdoor and indoor. I put my v mount battery in it and it is ready to go! Of course the output of it may seem a bit more brighter to the eye when you have the included cone on it as opposed to a softbox when you’re outside.
