I love live at leeds. I love Isle of wight. But god theres something about this performance that transcends all the others. The symbolic weight. I feel like this is The Who giving the last word on the 1960s. They closed it out and the sun rises on a new dawn. Its beyond epic and beautiful. I cant believe human beings can do things like this. create moments this powerful. I'd give anything to have been there.
Such a great comment & so true. I feel the same & tried to explain it in a comment I wrote for the video that’s called: The Who - all Woodstock Footage. It’s so intense I can’t truly put it into words. Like trying to explain an amazing psychedelic experience.
I completely agree with you, it's like how is it even conceivable and possible? I feel so lucky to have been growing up in the 60's and 70's. When you said you cannot believe human beings can create moments this powerful, it is exactly what I was thinking. They were driven to excellence, inspired by their own peers and experiences.

Remade, re-edited and remastered in 4K. This new version is superior to the old in every way. To start with, I used the audio from the Woodstock 50th Anniversary Edition CD release which has been remastered by Prof. Stoned. It's a lot better sounding than the old version. On the old edit, I stretched the audio around to fit the footage which would do the job of syncing the audio, but would hurt the overall quality. The DVD versions not only ran at the wrong speed making the songs too fast, but also suffered from a ghosting effect because the footage was being played back at 29.97fps instead of the intended 23.97fps. Now with the Blu-ray versions, I can let the footage play at the correct speed and in its original frame rate of 23.97fps. The only footage from a DVD source is the extra footage used on My Generation because that particular version was only ever released on the "Woodstock Diaries" DVD in 2002. Everything else is from the Blu-ray releases of "The Kids Are Alright" and "Woodstock" the film and bonus features. Like last time, I've added in a countdown timer whenever there wasn't any footage available. Since the camera mixing on every version of Woodstock isn't that good (incorrect shot and cameras being out of sync) I had to cut up every single camera shot individually on all the different versions and one by one correctly resyncing them all to the new remastered audio. The only song with no footage in Shakin' All Over. For the black and white footage, it would play back at various speeds throughout making it quite a challenge to get it all synced up properly but I think it's pretty much spot on now. I have fixed the beginning of Heaven & Hell which now includes more footage of the intro than the old edit. I added in a new bit of footage on Sparks at (15:10) of Roger banging his tambourines together which wasn't in the original edit. Removed a section of incorrect John footage which is now in the correct place at (29:51) on the left side. On We're Not Gonna Take It, the first bit of footage was in the wrong spot, I found the correct section just a little bit later at (41:36) and put it side by side with the other cam. See Me Feel Me has quite a few differences in the overall edit of the cameras. This new edit is a little more cleaned up with a few extra bits of footage added in and one incorrect shot removed that I replaced with another angle. My Generation has a couple very small extra shots added in and for Pete's solo at the end of the show, I opted for just 2 cameras this time instead of the 3 on the old edit. Now its only the footage from the Blu-ray for a more cohesive edit. There are two main things missing from this video. The proshot footage of Summertime Blues from the "Woodstock" Movie and the black and white footage of Sparks, Pinball Wizard and See Me Feel Me. For Summertime Blues, UA-cam just simply won't let me upload this video with it included. It gets blocked every time. However UA-cam doesn't seem to care when it's used in its own separate video. So I actually made a re-edit of Summertime Blues, removing the incorrect shots and syncing it all up better with the remastered audio. You can watch that here: ua-cam.com/video/oS9e-pEUO6c/v-deo.html As for the extra black and white footage I couldn't include because of the proshot footage used in its place, I've uploaded that as it's own separate video also. One of the best things about this footage is you can actually see Pete kick the director of the Woodstock film, Michael Wadleigh off the stage as he was filming a little too close for Pete's liking during Sparks. It happens at (18:14) on this video, but the cameras don't really catch much of it. I used AI upscaling and frame interpolated on this too for the best quality. You can watch that here: ua-cam.com/video/gApUMjyvxvs/v-deo.html

This 69-72 period when they were, in my humble opinion, in their absolute prime as a live rock band, any time they leaned into their earlier singles, was a sublime expression of what rock should be. I've been chasing this tone for the last 50 years
Still in grade school in '69 and I wouldn't hear Tommy until our middle school music teacher, Mr. Nussbaum, allowed it to be played to our class during one of his record album Fridays. Mr. Nussbaum made the student promise to bring it back next Friday so we could all finish listening. I hightailed it to Westwood Village and bought my first copy of Tommy that weekend for....$3.69. Wore it out by the end of the year. There was never a better rock & roll act than the Who and this video is a welcome tribute to one of the more iconic performances of the '60s. Much appreciated.
What’s the deal with ‘Tommy’ I can’t. I like early stuff LIVE AT LEEDS. I like ‘the Who’ for what ‘the Who’ would rather not be”. Responsible for heavy music
@jakanz Right off the bat you can see they’re lying. “Pure power that you can’t fuck with” and “monolithically monstrous” is what only a nerd could come with. Have they said or discussed one single thing about John or The Who?
They went from unknowns in America to superstardom at Monterey Pop Festival in June 1967. The film of that Festival was released a year before Woodstock.
Thank You - Major 'The Who' here !!! - I'm 77 now and this brings back memories ( 3 times live) Of all the Bands I saw, The Who delivered pure Blitzing power like no other - LOL, our Cat is named Tommy.
i was there, pretty close too ,ive seen them 12 times with Moon and always began with either Explain or H and H---most exciting band ever, cause as we all know there is no best band-----and when he knocked Hoffman off the stage it was unbelievable, hit him right in the hip and off he went
yes, but the best show was before that at Fillmore East where played for 6 or 7 days straight----it was the only time i saw John damage anything, after the 2nd encore and they had smashed everything somehow stage hands put stuff back up and Moon started Magic Bus with Ox thundering away, and when that half hour ended they smashed everything again and Entwhistle twirled his bass round and round then let go sending it 15 feet in the air--usually he broke nothing and placed his bass somewhere and go out of the way, but not this night--truly unbelievable show!@@oudwater58
Jabbed him in the back of the head with the headstock. He wasn't knocked off the stage; one or two stagehands came out and grabbed him and escorted him off.
It was the greatest...obviously Hendrix had more skill as a lead player, but Pete's originality emotional playing (and incredible guitar tone) was unlike any other act. The Who just didn't go through the motions... they gave it their all
The closing jam and the sound of Pete’s guitar wailing against the zodiacal light of dawn. There has never been a moment like this in the entire history of rock. A cultural, artistic and generational watershed.
They blew everybody else at Woodstock off the stage . This & the Who's Last in Toronto are my favorite recorded shows. But of course, Keith Moon wasn't there in Toronto. Which makes this the greatest! Thanks !
their best version! it's no wonder that Leonard Bernstein loved TheWHO when he heard 'TOMMY' the LP, in'69. they performed it at the MET in NYC but LB chose to see them do it at Fillmore East, telling Townshend, "Pete, you've made history w/ TOMMY!"
@@tattyshoesshigure5731 I guess due to the circumstances that this version of "Sparks" was performed u might be correct about this being the greatest version ever. It's heavy af. If u don't like this u don't like hard rock. Pete said they were damn near metal here. He is correct. Heavy af. Heavy as all fuck.
The amazing is just AMAZING in every way. The most powerful live song I've ever heard. Then your realize that's it's only three kick ass musicians doing it, and your speechless.
I guess, they're were stunned by their own performance, cause they played awesome together live on woodstock wooden stagefloor !! THE Who Guys on their Peak !! absolutely ❤ that !! XXX
These guys are absolutely insane!...their energy is unparalleled...their musicianship cannot be denied...but most of all they absolutely ROCK the entire performance...
A band with two guitar gods (one on drums) the bass created in the bowls of the earth and a frilled angel out front. What more could anyone want. Magnificent 🎸🇦🇺🤟🏼
Completely agree, he had his own unique way of playing and in his prime it was no doubt impressive. Fluid, like perpetual motion using every piece of his oversized drum kit. His sheer stamina was amazing in itself. He played the drums with his arms instead of the traditional wrists method and threw his entire body into every song. He must have burned 5,000 calories every concert.
Thank you. I tell all the youngsters that if you love The Who you will only ever after settle for the best and choicest musicever after. Aren't we the lucky ones!
Thanks for putting this together. They were an amazing high energy band with top tier musicians. Roger Daltrey's bluesy vocals, John Entwistle's thunderous bass, Keith Moon's wild beast drumming, and Pete Townshend's rocking windmill guitar playing. Townshend took his craft seriously, and no Yippie was going to get in his way. Abbie Hoffman picked the wrong band to interrupt. Pete wasn't having it.
Thank you so much for putting this together! I am a lifetime fan of The Who. I remember buying Live At Leeds with money I earned babysitting. I think it was the first actual album I bought. It came with a poster that I saved and framed much later. I still have the album and the poster to this day. I think Roger Daltrey firmly established himself as the rock god he is at this performance, but each member of the band stands out on their own for their excellence and all out commitment to what they do. So much respect for each one of them.

The Who, especially Pete HATED being at Woodstock! Shame, too, since they put on a stellar performance, and made history. The Tommy album is what broke The Who in The U.S. but playing Woodstock in front of close to a quarter of a million people pushed them into the spot light for all of eternity! Great audio and video quality, and I've seen and heard my fare share of Who at Woodstock bootleg videos and audio recordings throughout most of my life. Thanks for posting and sharing.
@@tangogrrl They arrived by car, and it was one of the worst traffic jams in history, Pete brought his wife and young daughter and was drugged, their set was incredibly delayed from the planned time and the band was basically sleepless, and by the time they did go on a lot of the audience were asleep or starting to leave. Also the band was quite worried about equipment failure at this time due to the mud and rain. Despite all of that, I think they played a great show given the circumstances, but I can totally see why the band members regarded it as one of the worst concert experiences.
Watching all the Tommy vocal intricacies it’s amazing how they managed to be the nastiest heaviest band ever while at the same time performing an opera!
Amazing, playing 5am their hearts out, its legendary. 100 hundreds year from now people look at this show and say that was music in the golden era. It will never be matched

Thank you for posting this. Pete and Roger are known to say this was the worst gig they ever played. I couldn't disagree more. I guess they're relating the bad gig feeling to the horrible backstage conditions, how far behind the schedule was with their set being bumped to the wee early morning hours, Abbie Hoffman crashing their set, and having to follow a blistering set by Sly and The Family Stone. The Who are sounding pretty damn strong.
I grew up with The Who, Goosebumps! Goosebumps! Goosebumps! Goosebumps! "Quivers down my backbone" LOL Summer of 69... Thank You so much for posting this.
Although I am younger, I have still been lucky enough to see The Who live. I have always been clear when I am asked the typical question: Are you a fan of The Beatles or The Rolling Stones? Ever since I was barely a teenager, I have always answered the same: Excuse me, I am one of the best, of The Who. This show is spectacular, I am not surprised that they dragged the majority of English youth behind them and carried their flag beyond their borders. We are Mods. How great.
My mother used too order cassettes from Colombia by 10 for a penny and i remember hearing it a few years after it came out the cover was kind of strange
It’s a great snapshot in time as Tommy had just been released and it’s great to hear them play most of it live. Moon was still banging full speed here before he started losing it in the early 70’s, and he’s a fun watch. And it’s wild to think there was a time you could see The Who live and they don’t close with “Won’t Get Fooled Again”, as it didn’t exist at this point!
Possibly the most accomplished band from the British invasion in terms of of instrumental and vocal abilities . They were all virtuoso players and good singers.
From the Goldhawk Road to the Golden Dawn of Woodstock a transcendental performance, brilliantly put together , the colour footage is startling when it kicks in, listen with headphones or massive speakers to appreciative the fire and skill and Pete’s complex “chords ( pronounced by him jokingly like the “ch” in “Chores”…. )Wondrous !!

The who never disappointed on their concerts. Always giving it 110 %
The quintessential rock & roll band. The Who
Best I Can't Explain I've ever heard ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This 69-72 period when they were, in my humble opinion, in their absolute prime as a live rock band, any time they leaned into their earlier singles, was a sublime expression of what rock should be. I've been chasing this tone for the last 50 years
69 78 best period 78 2024 good period i am french sory for texts 🎸🥁🎤🔥👍 Rip ⭕❌ : 🌗 ( Guy platteau Marseille France 😎 )@@patrickcampion7966
See me. Feel me...one of the best life performances of any song ever.
I second that, so perfect
I third that, it absolutely is 🎵🎶🎵🎶❤️
Real voices and talents that flow freely in the 60s and 70s without technologies that mask the human nature of art.
I brought Tommy to my HS music class in Brooklyn.
No band before or since has come close to this live energy. 69 to 73 they would blow any band in history clean off the stage.
Not so sure about. The Rolling Stones 1972 North American Tour was yet to be.
Nah, Zep had Plant godly aura and voice, Bonham's vicious drumming and of course Page's diabolical clean guitar
Pete Town and Mic Jagger are neck and neck. Brothers from another mother or something. Theirs and my Generation
and The Stones are still at it! Unbelievable!
Led Zeppelin 1970 Royal Albert Hall is also very strong when it comes to pure energy.
55 years have passed & Keith’s charisma still brightly shines through…
This took so much effort, finished product is amazing. Hopefully Roger and Pete give it a watch.
Thanks man!
Imagine seeing this kind of detail of your life from 54 years ago. Something most of us will never experience.

The sun rose during this performance !! How fitting !! I wish I could have been there !!
Entwhistle's bass is everything I love about pure hard rock.
It's pure attitude and power, you can't fuck with it on any level, it's just monolithically monstrous and untouchable!
Says somebody that doesn’t have a clue about The Who.
@@PutItAway101Says another nerd that’s not into The Who.
@jakanz Pointing out two nerds that are pretending to be into The Who for likes is not being elitist.
Nerd.
@jakanz Right off the bat you can see they’re lying.
“Pure power that you can’t fuck with” and “monolithically monstrous” is what only a nerd could come with.
Have they said or discussed one single thing about John or The Who?
Holy crap that guitar tone at 48 minutes is unreal. Such an epic performance.
Talk about a version of a song that is infinitely better than the album version. I could watch this all day.

Yes!! Makes me sad I never saw them perform, huge regret. Happy for the people who did though!! 😃

True that, my friend
49:21 the best!
They went from unknowns in America to superstardom at Monterey Pop Festival in June 1967. The film of that Festival was released a year before Woodstock.
I never ever comment on UA-cam videos but this is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen. Thank you for putting this together for all of humanity.
Agreed pure unadulterated perfection
Shows how mythical The Who is for someone comment their only comment on UA-cam
Of all the bands that played, to this day my uncle who was there says they BY FAR gave the most staggering performance
Moon's on FIRE XXXXXXX
Thank You - Major 'The Who' here !!! - I'm 77 now and this brings back memories ( 3 times live) Of all the Bands I saw, The Who delivered pure Blitzing power like no other - LOL, our Cat is named Tommy.
Tell Tommy I said whats up
i was there, pretty close too ,ive seen them 12 times with Moon and always began with either Explain or H and H---most exciting band ever, cause as we all know there is no best band-----and when he knocked Hoffman off the stage it was unbelievable, hit him right in the hip and off he went
Lucky you that you saw them on Woodstock.
yes, but the best show was before that at Fillmore East where played for 6 or 7 days straight----it was the only time i saw John damage anything, after the 2nd encore and they had smashed everything somehow stage hands put stuff back up and Moon started Magic Bus with Ox thundering away, and when that half hour ended they smashed everything again and Entwhistle twirled his bass round and round then let go sending it 15 feet in the air--usually he broke nothing and placed his bass somewhere and go out of the way, but not this night--truly unbelievable show!@@oudwater58
What was Hoffman thinking of, walking onto their stage? They weren’t hippies or beat poets, a bad misjudgment on his part.
Jabbed him in the back of the head with the headstock. He wasn't knocked off the stage; one or two stagehands came out and grabbed him and escorted him off.
you saw this or is this a second hand account?@@chikkipop
Still the all time greatest live performers of all time....THE WHO.....
greatest live group on the planet.
No.
@@carlosclaptrix yes
Great group vocals too.. simply amazing.
The Energy and Pete’s Guitar Tone in See me feel me is Incredible….Probably one of the Greatest Performances at Woodstock….
It was the greatest...obviously Hendrix had more skill as a lead player, but Pete's originality emotional playing (and incredible guitar tone) was unlike any other act. The Who just didn't go through the motions... they gave it their all
They were better at Isle of White.... Joe Cockers performance was LEGEND!!
"Thunderfingers"......(also called "The Ox") - Whew!
Rock Bass heaven.
Thanks !
Overrated!
Epic
Saw Roger Daltrey last night .... solo performance.... what a legend
I saw him in Boston. Absotutely BOO-tiful.
Love their rendition of ‘Sparks’ here… just phenomenal! ❤
their best version! it's no wonder that Leonard Bernstein loved TheWHO when he heard 'TOMMY' the LP, in'69. they performed it at the MET in NYC but LB chose to see them do it at Fillmore East, telling Townshend, "Pete, you've made history w/ TOMMY!"
Sparks is my favourite off of Tommy.
Keith Moon just going crazy on those drums😮
Without a doubt, a prodigious musical decade could not be closed better.
Only The Who could do it.😍
Well, not closed quite yet. Altamont was yet to come.
The Who... They are the definition of Classic Rock!!! I was 15 when they did this legendary show!!! 🎵🙌❤️🙌🎶
In my opinion they were the Greatest Live Rock and Roll Band in their prime, shit I seen them in 96 at Madison Square Garden and they were great.
The amazing is just AMAZING in every way. The most powerful live song I've ever heard. Then your realize that's it's only three kick ass musicians doing it, and your speechless.
Incredible performance from John Entwistle. (and the rest of The Who.)
I guess, they're were stunned by their own performance, cause they played awesome together live on woodstock wooden stagefloor !! THE Who Guys on their Peak !! absolutely ❤ that !! XXX
Die beste Band aller Zeiten!
These guys are absolutely insane!...their energy is unparalleled...their musicianship cannot be denied...but most of all they
absolutely ROCK the entire performance...
A band with two guitar gods (one on drums) the bass created in the bowls of the earth and a frilled angel out front. What more could anyone want. Magnificent 🎸🇦🇺🤟🏼
WENT TO WOODSTOCK IN 69 WHEN I WAS 13! LOVED IT & THE GREAT MUSIC
Love that the day is breaking and the sky is lightening at the end of the show.
Music history - right there folks ...
Brilliant...❤
Love from Romania-Bucharest! ❤
Moon's drum fills on Listening to You are amazing.
Sparks says everything. THE WHO at their best. Look at it, hear it LOUD. Love it!
ただ美しい。アクション、コーラスも決まって永遠の大パフォーマンス。
Entwistle s bass on fire, I m very impressed
Moon in his prime here. He is really incomparable to anyone when he was at this level.
Best band ever in future and of all times in the universe
I saw them live around this time. They were absolutely astounding….
Pete's SG period was their best era.
Terrific. But my ears are still feeling it.
Their peak were 1964-1971

I’m at a loss for words. Possibly one of the greatest live performances ever.
@snakedriverinteresting take. I like it The sequel to My Generation illustrates that. One of my favorites.
why did they hate being there?
Somebody spiked all their drinks with LSD and by the time they hit the stage Townshend was exhausted and coming down off his trip.@@tangogrrl
Naked Eye... Im sitting here in another world .. wow !
This performance of the Naked Eye always gives me chills
Keith was the ultimate rock drummer he's an absolute legend 💯👍🤙

Thank you for posting this. Pete and Roger are known to say this was the worst gig they ever played. I couldn't disagree more. I guess they're relating the bad gig feeling to the horrible backstage conditions, how far behind the schedule was with their set being bumped to the wee early morning hours, Abbie Hoffman crashing their set, and having to follow a blistering set by Sly and The Family Stone. The Who are sounding pretty damn strong.
Very good points! Sly and the Family were very very good. But we expect greatness from the Who and they lived up to the billing

Как всегда The Who феноменальны и безупречны. Просто сказка! Thank you!
Keith hitting the drums like they stole his vodka. Good Lord. Daltrey taught Plant how to be a golden god. My favorite British band.
