Loved this vid for a fantastic series! My tier list would look quite different with bk 1 in the middle somewhere and Sea Watch in the middle, and ones like Scarab Path, Dragonfly Falling, War Master’s Gate, the Air War, and Salute the Dark all in the top tier right next to each other! There were so many standouts for me, and my lowest two would be Heirs of the Blade and Blood of the Mantis, a prototypical side quest book - though I still liked both those reads!
That does not surprise me at all. There is so much in this series that different parts of it are bound to work better for some readers than others. I'm actually a bit surprised Jordan and I were in agreement as often as we were.
Finished this series a few months ago. Enjoyed the world building ,race and the apt concept. Not a fan on the story of tisamon after his death but atleast my girl cheerwell had a good end after her constant moaning about achaeos death which almost made me stop reading. But she definitely improved the most as a key character. Adrian Tchaikovsky space opera series like children of time and shard of earth are more well known than his other series like shadow of the apt and echoes of the fall up because of how unique and different they are from any other pieces of sci fc currently available .
I agree, I didn't like what happened with Tisamon after book 4, and Che definitely had a lot of growth throughout the series. She wasn't my favorite to begin with, but really took over during the second story arc. I still need to read Children of Time and Shards of Earth. I tend to lean more fantasy so I started with Shadows of the Apt and Echoes of the Fall.
I always forget how long this series is…I doubt it’s one I’ll ever read, not a huge fan of insects plus it sounds like there are some not so great books to slog through.
That’s fair. This is a hard series for me to recommend because there’s a lot to like, but plenty to not like as well. And often what one person hates, another person loves.
