My buddies and I all play in a DND party once a week. One of them adores this track and tries to stuff it into the music bot during our sessions whenever he can, and while we don’t hate the song, it never fits, so we usually kick it out. However, after finishing a particularly grueling story arc, he decided to put this on once more as a finishing touch as our characters descended a hill at dusk. It…felt amazing. Wonderful track, Chris.

Chris, I've been gaming for the better part of 20 years of my 30 years of age, and i can wholeheartedly say this is one of the very fucking best soundtracks i've ever listened to. It captivated me the first time I heard it, to the point where it actually changed my playstyle in Stage5 from a symbol-of-chaos-murder-tornado style to a "wow these clouds are beautiful, damn life is great" kind of playstyle. Very, very few songs/soundtracks have the power to change how I feel, let alone how I play games. It's artists like you that keep gaming relevant for us grown up gamers, sometimes. Thank you for your art and for this masterpiece especially.

I went into this game fairly blind, and words could not describe how stressed I got being in sky meadow for the first time. Tons of enemies, a couple enemies I hadn't seen yet, and a giant yellow man with several arms and a ring for a head on the other side of the map. And the one thing that calmed me down was the music. Holy shit this music. Hell, all the music in this game. Really glad I decided to check this game out, it was well worth it.

yeah. the game is amazing. i went in blind as well, and was instantly hooked on both gameplay and straight up fire of a soundtrack. i snapped back to reality 70 mins into my first run and was like... wait what? i was playing how long?? what?? 10/10

Picked up Risk of Rain 2 a couple of days ago going in completely blind, amazed by the game I made my way to sky meadow stage. Realised it’s 1am, I’m zooming round the map still fresh to the game, facing golden giants and lumerian elders while this incredible track is playing through my headphones. One of the best gaming experiences I’ve had in a long while, thanks for creating such a powerful song 🤙🏼

I was searching for ages for this song. Funnily found it.

Was it really that hard to find? I'm genuinely curious.
It only took me 11 years of learning ang practicing classical piano to understand the whole picture of motives and themes present in your pieces. My favorite by far is, to this day "They Might As Well Be Dead", the riffs and the barely noticeable Mithrix theme before the culmination is unparalleled, but i just couldn't not comment on how fucking smart the motive building is in this one. The solo from Prince's "Purple Rain" (may he rest now), immediately followed by the main leitmotif of both the games was very entertaining to discover and dissect, thank you. Devil's in the details, and fuck me, thats a lot of details. The amount of thought put into sound design, leitmotifs, naming, and sometimes even visuals, is something to be proud of. Could not forget the tribute of barely visible logo at the end, being icing on the cake.
That's an impressive amount of thought that goes into your work. If my performing career won't go as planned, you're the first one I'll be taking notes from to begin composing, so far you've been a great inspiration. You're also probably the only creator I've seen that keeps reading and answering to comments all these years later, that's a rare sight to see
Also a little curious about how's the relationship with Gearbox going? I really hope we can see some future projects on the franchise, the setting is far too interesting for it to come to an end this soon

Yo Chanson d'Automne is my favorite track from the first game. It's hard to articulate the way the first listen of this felt. Indisputably one of the best tracks on the soundtrack, and a perfect re imagining of the track that captivated me all the way back in 2014. Hard to believe how far this series has come.

This seriously gave me the chills. I was in the heat of playing and not really paying attention to the backgroundmusic, as I suddenly hear some very familiar chords and sounds. "this sound quite familiar" I thought, but couldn´t put my finger on it. Reduced SFX to 0% and set music to 100% and then it hit me - this is a new Chanson D´Automne. I got the chills a few more times, Chanson D´Automne was BY FAR my favorite song from ror1 and now hearing this new "version" is like gaming-christmas for me. It´s fantastic.
This got tears in my eyes haha. Chanson is one of my favorites songs for ror (actually I listen to it on Spotify all the time too, anyway...). And only after reading your comment I finally saw the connection between em.

I had never listened to Prince's Purple Rain before, so when I listened to it the first time and noticed this song's nods to it...I found a brand new appreciation for the song and especially the title. Amazing.
God, I love this track just so, SO much. I always find myself listening to it a ton. This is my favorite song in the game, and one of my favorite songs just like, ever.
Everything about it is just so, SO good. The returning motif of Chanson d'Automne from the first game mixed with Purple Rain and having just such incredible background synth and godlike guitar riffs.

Damn... It's like the imstruments are speaking to eachother in this song. To me it sounds like the synths is going through a tough time of some sort. Other instruments come in the song and try to give it support but don't succeed. Then everything goes quite for a moment... and the electic guitar comes in to give the synths support it needed. The synths become louder and more joyful. I can even hear the guitar telling the synths "Hey! You're doing great!" as they both start to play together like two close friends singing their favourite song. As everything starts to get quite the synths have changed, they're much louder, mighter, and more beautiful. It sounds like it's thanking the guitar for helping them change for the better.

One of only 4 song I’ll never get tired of listening to. And ironically the other 3 are all Pink Floyd.
This song sounds remarkably similar to numerous PF songs which is probably why I love it so much. The main “riff” if I can call it that sounds similar to “Echos” in Pompeii right around the 7:30 mark(in “echos”). This song’s solo seems to sound like parts of comfortably numb’s second solo, high hopes’ slide guitar solo, and a few others all mashed together in an amazing piece of ear candy.
Keep it up bro, your work is incredible❤
Pink Floyd is one of my favourite bands and Comfortably Numb and High Hopes are among my favourite guitar solos ever, so yeah, definitely a strong and deliberate influence in my composing and playing, both generally and this track in particular.

After over 2 years of listening to this once in a while and never getting tired of it, I want to leave a comment to thank you, Chris, for giving us this gem along with all of the other incredible music you’ve made. I’ve always been a fan of video game music more than any other more “normal” music, but I feel like unlike the music from other games, the music from Risk of Rain 2 is able to transcend that barrier. The amount of effort you put in to make your compositions feel alive makes it so that even someone who avoids video games entirely would be able to appreciate them and the level of emotion that you’re able to inject into them. There really is no composer in the industry that does it as well as you, and I hope that you continue to be successful and are able to have this level of passion in the music you create in the future, whatever it may be for.
"trancend the barrier" is the absolute perfect way to say that. all i can say when i listen to this song is it makes you elevate beyond what you are now and it just feels incredible. i blast my headphones at full volume to this song. there is no other experience like it.
You know what's a complete mindfuck I never noticed until now? Chanson D'Autumn is "foreground" layer of the song because it's Sky Meadows. The "baclground" of the song is the main leitmotifs in the themes of Risk of Rain 1and 2 played slower depending on the game you are playing. Intentional or not, that's brilliant.

One of my favourite things to remember, and this was actually fairly recent, is when my family were on a trip, and we had our family playlist on and Prince’s Purple Rain was playing, and that extremely recognisable leitmotif came on my dad got shocked, grabbed my attention, and I said to him “Yep, this is where the rain formerly known as purple got inspiration from!” So thanks Chris, because you managed to accidentally shock my Father backwards LOL.
This music is honestly so perfect in encapsulating that feeling "do I finish, or do I loop?" Good pondering music.
True story: Working at a country club yesterday, spent all night cooking away in the kitchen without knowing what was going on outside (it was an extra extra busy night). My shift ended at 1130 and I walk outside only to hear Purple Rain's guitar solo. For a solid 10 seconds I swear someone was playing this song rather than Purple Rain at the concert. Either way, very happy I listened to this right after on repeat as I drove home
Being a massive Prince fan, I love the little references to Purple Rain in this track! I throughly enjoy this track each and every time I get to Stage 5. What a banger! Chris, you inspire me to put myself out there musically whenever I am exposed to your excellent musicianship and writing skills 😤

I’ll never forget the time of my life where i played this game on console with my friends. Every,dam day. I had just turned 19 and it had seemed like everything was falling apart but playing this game with my friends all the time saved me. My girlfriend washing my hair because i was too depressed to wash it myself. this music and the grind of exploring this other worldly environment with my friends really captivated me, and made me feel less alone. This music definitely played a big role in that and while many people shit on the console port i think this godsend of a video game and music could never be watered down by a couple bugs. Thank you for you blessing my ears with the sounds of space and wonder. For making me want to explore the depths of my own emotions. I still miss you grandpa. So very much, but I’m able to stand on my own because of you thank you for teaching me to be kind i think id be some sort of hooligan without it. Karens family has taken me in and while love has been a weird and wild journey i think We’re doing just fine. Cheers to this awesome music. Your creativity inspires mine. Thank you.

My friends bought me this game as an early Christmas present, I started playing it yesterday and hearing this song as we all whizzed by the map made it such a special memory that I'll keep for years to come. Such a great coupled by an amazing soundtrack, thank you

I got back into this game after a couple years and reached this stage. I was so transfixed by the music that I didn't even look for the portal, I just ran around killing stuff and trying to stay alive so I could keep listening to this song. What a masterpiece.

Sky Meadow is such a legendary moment in ror2 runs. The stage is my favorite, and the music as well. Great job, it's phenomenal, I always play with my best friend and we only have positive things to say about the music

This is a sequel we do not deserve, but never knew we needed. Made me tear up, absolutely staggering follow-up to Chanson D'Automne, my favourite track from the first game.

Chris, you should be proud of this song. Not many game soundtracks get to sit at the top with the likes of "Forest Interlude", Stickerbush Symphony", "Gwyn, Lord of Cinder", "Nightmare King". This has definitely earned its place with them.
I just want to thank the artist for this soundtrack because this song has recently helped me snap out of a mental breakdown and I am very grateful for it. I’ve been in a very stale situation and it was kind of getting to me

After having played this game for well over 100 hours with friends... Still, every time there is at least 1 friend humming this song's tune when we are on the Sky Meadows stage, whiteout realizing he's humming through his mice for the whole discord party.
