  • 5 YEARS on EBC BRAKES comes to an end. Welcome to the zero faults series and the first episode on the Project Discovery overland build series. Before I start adding mods like roof rack, rock sliders, lights and so on, I want to reset the car and get all faults cleared away. And first of is a full brake replacement starting with front brake discs an pads in full details. So if you haven't done this job this video will give you an insight into what is needed and how it is done. This video also includes a short look into how the EBC Brake discs and green stuff brake pads has handle the last 5 years.
    #projectdiscovery #landroverdiscovery3 #frontbrakes
    There are 2 major and some minor faults with the car at this point. The major ones are the EPB/handbrake module that has jammed on and the EGR-valves not closing. These are throwing an error and need to be fixed togheter with new brakes discs and pads all around before the MOT in June. About two months from this point in time.
    This reset series will end up in the EGR-replacement video and concluding with a MOT test day video.
    As always, enjoy the video and hit me up with a comment if you want to know more and don't forget to like and subscribe.

    Always wash the rotor with soap and water then rinse off with brake clean. Rotors are shipped with rust preventative that can help glaze the pads if left on. Make sure to test drive and burnish pads with 20-30 25mph slow controlled stops before driving on main roads.

      Hey @DetroitLimey and great input! You only make the videos better with these comments, so thank you! I usually do a quick wash with break cleaner before I put them on. Should have made it a point in the video. And I do a short drive around where I lice, 30km/h sone and test before heading out on a highway test drive. Again, very good points and thanks for pointing it out. 👍 Best, Simon.

    When jacking do I need to consider the air suspension? I’ve seen Audi’s that need to be on a particular setting or the coils pop out.

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  2 місяці тому

      Sorry for the late reply, nothing on the D3's suspension will "pop out". You can set it into build mod so it won't move, or pull the suspension ecu fuse, in the engine buy, number 26 I think, to get the same result, but not necessary. 😊

    OVERLAND BUILD is finally starting, even with a small step like this. But I think a good platform is important before starting on the mods. 👍🙂 I hope you like the video and be sure to hit me up with a comment on what you think and if you have any questions. Best, Simon. 🙂🤙

      Excellent video! Very good step by step work. Right at the same time because I have to do it on my D4 the next few month, think it looks pretty similar on the D4 :-D

      @@DanielHeini Thank you so much! :) I was afraid to add LR3, Discovery 4, LR4 and Sport to the title because even though they are pretty similar the partsnumber, and spanner/socket sizes are not the same. The Discovery 3 that don't have the upgraded brakes/brembo uses some other sizes but not sure which. But as you say, process is pretty much the same and the components would be pretty similar. I did not have time to clean the hub properly so I would add that to your TODO list. :) Thanks again Daniel! 👍🙂

    Nice video, what is the diameter of the rotor? Because I have seen spare parts for LR3 from 317 mm to 350 mm.

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  5 місяців тому +1

      It sure, but there is a difference between the cars, some have uprated brakes. Discovery 3, diesel, up to 2008/2009 ish has smaller brakes, can fit the original 17” rims. From 2009 I think they get bigger. The LR3 with the V8 I’m not sure of, it maybe got bigger brakes due to the bigger engine. 😊
      Get your win number and Google land Rover vin number explinstion or something and you can punch in your vin and get the build history.

    Super helpful video - and I wish the mechanic before me had thought to use copper grease on the disc retaining bolts. I needed to use an impact screwdriver.

      Hey Tim and thank you for letting know! It's always great to hear that the videos are helpful. 👍😊 I try to use copper grease on everything that I wan't to come loose later, and have maybe taken it to far some times. 😂

    Ebc brakes are better red stuff ceramic and performance discs.

I love it and it's going to be around for a long time. New video with the rear brakes is now out. Will continue on that this week with the EPB-module fix after that. 👍🙂

    Hi Simon !
    I’m watching your videos from France and I really love them 🙂
    I have a 07’ Tdv6 Disco « Camper » from Danemark, and i have quite the same overlanding project as you, with some some mechanical update too before i start the preparation…
    I saw you have like me quite a lot of rust under your Disco, do you plan to make a vid about the treatment of this ?
    Thank’s 😉

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  3 роки тому +1

      Hey and thanks for watching! Appreciate the kind words. And man, France looks like a great place to go overlanding with all the roads and mountains. Will have to go there at some point. Yeah, there are some surface rust and it needs to be handled and I need to prepare it for the winter this year. Not sure if I can manage to make a video about it but my plan is to get it oiled up with fluid film or something simular. I usally hande the rust spots when I'm fixing things, as you can see when I changed the compressor air reservoir. Wish you the best with your build. I'm really excited about the time forward, it's something special about building up your own overland rig. Best. Simon
