Perfect Sunday morning viewing😊 Great repair! Just proves that there’s about a million things can go wrong with this car and you’ll still be making videos in 20 years time 😅
After seeing this video and my discovery 3 suffering from the exact same symptoms jumped online ordered the seals, fluid ect got it up on my ramps and couple of hours later its like a new car, smooth shifts and judder has gone 👌 this channel is a goldmine of knowlege for any discovery 3 owner
One thing about switching over to metal transmission oil pan, don’t ever use the provided paper oil pan gasket, it will leak even if you use rtv sealer. I strongly recommend and if you can get this Ford transmission pan gasket part number 6L2Z-7A191-BA, it’s for a 6R60 6R70 and 6R80 transmission used in Ford/Lincoln longitudinal engine trucks and suv from 2006-2016 these transmission are exact licensed copy of zf 6hpxx. Pan gasket has outer metal perimeter with inner rubber bonded gasket and has identical placement and location of sealing surface as the plastic pan and it can be reused a few times before it needs to be replaced. I had issues with the paper/composite gasket received from Atlantic British metal pan kit, it leaks and no matter how much rtv/sealant I use it will still leaked, after cleaning the surface and switching over to that pan gasket, no leaks and no messy residue from removal. I’ve drop the pan twice, reused the gasket and still no leaks.
Love the videos. Just replaced the oil & filter in my 2008 Discovery after 5kkms with 5w40 instead of 5wdumbass and the difference was amazing. The engine sound so much quieter. Also inspected the oil filter…and no shinny bit…thank God! Thanks for the tip Christian 😉👍
Just did this. And fixed my shudder. Chasing. Gearing and rattling. And i had no faith. Land cruiser is cancelled. Did put in 1 dr tranny shudder fix as well. Did it exactly like this all alone. No problems.
Dear Vera and Christian, thank you so much for this video, AGAIN. It really is a delight to see you both working together and fixing other peoples cars. You really are such good friends and so helpful. My best wishes to you both. Paul.
It’s good that you provide this drive through service for all you patron supporters. Most places wash your car while it’s in with them but you go the extra mile and lubricate their gentleman areas. That’s service.
Great video as always. Your friends really trust you guys 😁loving the German sense of humour too. I can't wait to see your new mall Crawler and all the work you will be doing to it 😁
All Sunday activity is on-hold until an LR Time post 😃 The Turbo actuator is a problem on Jaguar with the same engines - especially those with 2 turbos as the second doesn't cut in until around 2800rpm and so is little used and the rod seizes. Good stuff as ever 🙂
vera was very happy to see the engine start up after the rebuild . That was the sound of success and Vera’s reaction was beautiful , all that work was worthwhile just to see vera,s reaction on the initial fire up.❤
Fabulous, entertaining video! It seems there are no ends to your talent Christian, that looked like such a difficult repair, and also the diagnosis! The benefits of the two post lift are really showing now. These brighten up my Sunday evening, so grateful to you both for this channel, the best on UA-cam!
Great video!! You are brave to have taken the mechatronic out with the filter!! For reference... I used the metal sump and never had any problems. Also... ZF used a metal sump on certain BMW 6HP transmissions so I don't think that the metal sump is an issue.
Last time I had that turbo actuator problem I had to make a tool from a knitting needle to free it up after lubrication. Made a huge difference. I probably need to do it again soon, thanks for the reminder!
I had a WJ once. The most fun 4WD I’ve had for wheeling. That 4.7 V8 is a sweet motor and the power to weight ratio is perfect. I might even look for another one.
12 days into owning my US spec 2012 LR4. You inspire my engineering side haha. Really wish the td6 was available here. I still find a lot of your videos fantastic. Transitioning from my 1995 Discovery was a challenge. Love the feel of solid axles but also love the new rig for parts and support. Cheers 🥂
Good morning to both of you another great video I am very surprised when you had to check the road was clear that Christian has not fitted a mirror or device up to see as he normally has everything covered take care keep up the good work both of you
Great coincidence I have the same A pillar water leek, I put weather seal around my door frame but I will amend that. Currently on holiday in Gran Canaria so a job for next weekend, thanks Christian lol... Best regards Phil & Louise
Another great video! I laughed through nearly the whole thing!! 🤣 Great job with diagnosis, Christian. I hope you all have plans on replacing that carrier bearing sooner than 10 years. 😉
Loosening the RHS engine mount also give you the space you need to be able to fit the original ZF filter. Change oil regularly and it will save your transmission. Try not to exceed 1 year / 60k km drain interval. Love the content again
Always enjoyed your videos! You helped me diagnose many problems over the last 2 years of owning an LR3 and am very thankful of that but have now sold it and moved on. I saw a great sticker the other day..."If you want to go overlanding, buy a Land Rover. If you want to make it back, buy a 4runner" Having owned v8 versions of both in the past, nothing beats the ride and comfort of the LR. What the 4runner lacked in comfort and aesthetics, it made up for in reliability and cost of ownership. This time we chose to give up both comfort and reliability and go straight for a JK Wrangler! You guys are truly a wealth of knowledge with these vehicles and I know MANY people have saved many thousands watching your videos. I will continue to watch and take comfort watching Christian struggle while blaming Vera, knowing I will never have to work on another LR as long as I live. Best wishes to you both and your son! Thank you for all the help!!
Great video as always! I happened to watch Sreten at M539 Restorations (Based in Frankfurt, near you guys, I believe) - another great UA-camr - do an over overhaul of a ZF transmission just recently. I think you would like it. It is his most recent video showing the overhaul of an X5.
Vera and Christian fantastic video and entertaining lol 😂 and welcome Joachim to the team )) I’m thinking he should join in with Vera and Christian 😂😂❤ 🇬🇧
I had the same shuddering on my Discovery 3 when I purchased it but took a chance. The quickest and short term solution is to add a quality transmission lubricant additive that cost only a few euros (e.g. _Dr Tranny_ removes shudder instantly). The far more expensive alternative is to get the _transmission rebuilt_ . If you'll pardon the pun, I went down that road and took my Disco to a transmission specialist. It cost of €2700 to rebuild the transmission, which included a reconditioned torque converter and replacement mechatronics valves and clutch. However, the rebuild failed as I was getting transmission errors with the Disco going into fault mode. The transmission was removed two more times but the problem persisted. I decided to buy a _new_ ZF mechatronic unit from ZF directly. This cost another €1200. I went to another transmission specialist who installed it successfully for €700. I had a historical issue with the Discovery not able to go into sports mode (triptonic mode). I thought the new mechatronic would have sorted this. I took the Disco to an electric mechanic and found out that the sport mode _wiring_ was damaged. I finally have the ZF transmission working at a cost of approximately €5000. I bought the vehicle for €6000. My Disco is like my high maintenance lover, requiring lots of money but giving great pleasure....
@@Vera_and_Christian Sorry, I was yelling at the screen but you did not hear me!! I typed my comment before you mentioned the steel sump at the very end. Greetings from Melbourne Australia.
I send them all out, hope yours is on its way. I can't put your UA-cam name to a real name I have, but depending on where you life, it can take weeks. Almost 6 weeks to Australia, and 4 weeks to the US. If you don't get it in that timeframe, email me again please. 🙏Except for South Africa, It takes 3 months to get there. 😳🙋♀️Vera
The Britpart pan is worth it, I had a similar issue but my torque converter would flatly not lock up and give me a transmission fault. I swapped all the solenoids and seals and did an ATF change and she's been great ever since. I wish I had a lift!
That's great. What you have, there is the perfect Red Green solution; temporary, unless it works. red green was a character in a Canadian TV show. Very amusing.
Great video as usual. I love it. If you use the metal pan on the ZF 6HP26 make sure you get a metal/rubber gasket. It looks very similar to the OEM plastic pan gasket. The fibre gaskets are hopeless and leak. This is from trial and error on my side. I could only find one supplier in Aus but you may find more in Deutchland.
Ingenius oil seal replacement on the Mechatronic/valve block whilst keeping the plastic pan in place- goes to show some of the TC shuddering may not actually be the lockup clutch at fault and only a leaking seal
I put the steel pan on our family LR3 back in 2018. Was much easier than the Land Rover workshop manual procedure of lifting the engine, removing the passenger catalytic converter and finally the pan. Land Rover in British Columbia quoted me $3000 for a new pan, fluid and install. I used the Atlantic British kit here in North America and with the fluid I was into the repair for $400 CAD. Have 30,000 KM since then with no issues. Great video! Just so you can take a look there are many vehicles with the 6HP26 transmission. I noticed that some BMW versions are all aluminum finned like URO parts # 24152333903PRM these list the LR3 and LR4 as applications and look even better than the steel pan. I installed. Great job again on the mechatronic seal repair. Many people here in North American by rebuilt transmission not knowing about those seals.

I'm soo looking forward to You good people doing the body off. Like a three or four episode epic, detailed, amusing and informative episode. Need to do the crossover and probably rear crankshaft seal myself. 2005 D3 manual. Need more visual in advance.
Doing the same procedure on your trench would be epic, as this is the setup I have. Gearbox out.
