- Like my Other! Racing Games episode, I wanted to get away from the Capcom and Sega fighters on the Saturn, and focus on some of the other fighting games for the machine. Be sure to check out part 2.

I actually really loved Primal Rage as a kid, lol.
Asuka 100% Burning Fest Limited. It is 2d fighting game before it's time nothing comes close to it to this day. Sadly
You should check out Asuka 120% Limit Over. It was the unreleased last version of the game released as an iso by the developer after they went under. You should also check out the fighting games developed by French Bread. They're an excellent developer with beautiful sprite art who took a lot of inspiration from the Asuka series.
The big problem with Golden Axe: The Duel isn't that it's a terrible game but that it was released without Revenge of Death Adder. The Duel ended up getting the brunt of the criticism. Had Revenge been released as well The Duel would be remembered with more positivism.

The arcade version of groove on fight is my favorite 2D fighter of all time

Final Fight revenge is a very fun to play game! I enjoyed it alot. When you had to "Run!!" from a helicopter or a cop car it made me laugh quite abit. Poisons winning pose is well risqué too! Feels like a precursor to Rival Schools engine wise.
Final Fight Revenge is the closest we got to Street Fighter EX on Sega Saturn. I like it.
Ninku could have had a lot of potential, I like the art. I Wonder if they impoved animation and Added 4Mb support.
Astra Superstars is sensational, a glorious sugar rush that would look great on Dreamcast. It’s also very easy to play, which makes it accessible for most casual players. Most kids only played fighting games by mashing buttons, anyway.
Sonic Council is excellent, very tight and fast, very fluid animation and great character designs. Gameplay is purely Street Fighter style, so it’s easy to get into it. 1P mode is really tough, so you better practice. It’s not as good as Asula 120%, which is just about the best-playing 2D fighting title on Saturn.
Zero Divide is a technical milestone for Saturn, using all the hardware chips (as many Japanese studios would do). This game runs in 480/60 hi-res mode but also appears to have polygon shading, a feat previously thought impossible on Saturn (the 480i graphics modes only used 8-bit color palettes, which supposedly made Gouraud shading impossible). Note also how the environments are very solid and stable, featuring walls that never glitch out. The robots are pretty cool, a bit colder than the oher fighting titles, but the game does include 3 bonus characters, including the Zoom cat mascot.
I absolutely ADDDOOORRREEEE primal rage. It's probably my top pick for a 2d fighter. But I understand the opposite position. My cousin absolutely hates it, and no matter as much I try, I have never persuaded him otherwise :(
I think part of the problem for me was that it played so different from the fighting games I had cut my teeth on, like Street Fighter and Darkstalkers. Trying to go between them was really tough.

WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game was also ported to the PS1, 32X, Genesis/Mega Drive, MS-DOS and Super Nintendo.
Ninku was based on the anime and manga franchise of the same name.
Golden Axe should have been The Duel game option for a home version of Revenge of Death Adder. Just like their MD versions. That woulda been hella epic!

Zero Divide had a lot of similarities with fighting vipers, too, yet noone seems to notice that. Good video, as always.

I had Zero Divide 2 : the secret wish on the PS1 growing up. I loved that game, especially the armour breaking mechanic, don't know if there is much difference in the Saturn game to what I remember of the PS1 game, as nostalgia could play a huge part.
Particularly remember taking ages to figure out how to use the gun on one of the characters, only for a magazine at the time to break the "secret", it was a combo move 🤣

I love primal rage's aesthetic. It's also what got me into Donkey Kong Country. it lost some of its magic when it went from pre rendered to ful 3d :(
Rise 2 was likely the worst game i had for the Saturn. All of the other 25+ games were great, or at least fun, honestly (except for maybe Space Hulk).

most fighting games was interesting on Sega Saturn,some games will be for PS1,all of them i have on priority for PS1 like Primal Rage,Mortal Kombat and Zero Divide

What Namco fight games on Sega Saturn? Weren't they PlayStation 1 exclusives until Soil Calibur on Dreamcast,?
Groove On Fight gets a lot of love/credit but I've never rated that highly myself. Also, the animation in it is tragic! People often say how good it is but most moves are around 2 to 3 frames and look really rigid. I much prefer all the other PI titles personally, especially Matrimelee... of course 😉

Dead or Alive, Anarchy in the Nippon and Zero Divide are outstanding 3D non-Sega fighting games for Saturn. Final Fight Revenge is actually very good, certainly better than its reputation. Definitely a “guilty pleasure” videogame.
How about Battle Arena Toshinden with actual 3 dimension gameplay, not just camera moves and polygons but side dodges?

I just got my Sega Saturn a few days ago from Japan with all 4 of the Marvel Vs. Games. I want some of those games on this video you made but they are going for $90-$200 now. I don't know if that is worth it. I did spend $153 on Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 for PS2.
Are you aiming to collect these games or do you just want to play them? If you just want to play them get yourself a ODE like the Terraonion Mode and load it up.

I was never a fan of the 16/32-bit era Dragon Ball games. Whilst I appreciate what they were trying to do and convey, I found the split screen gameplay gimmicky and disorienting. Looking back at Astra Superstars however, that games engine and mechanics would absolutely have worked for a DB title.
Last Bronx, yo! Also, I had a copy of the PC version of Rise 2. A literal waste of the bytes that were written on the disc.

I'm not sure where you are finding these "cheap" and "affordable" games, but they are easily in the triple digits. I feel like I'm being misled because they are wildly expensive.

@@SegaLordX Sorry, I was trying to be sarcastic as I was emphasizing with quotations the cheap and affordable. I should have ended with lol or that I was kidding, etc. I know full well that you are aware of the rising costs of Saturn games on Ebay over the years and how much they were at the time you made this video. I have found a few somewhat more affordable through other means, but many will most likely always be out of reach.

Ahhh, Rise 2. The sequel that managed to be a significant improvement over its predecessor and yet still be utter garbage. It’s a series that was always better in my imagination than it was in reality.

You know how it is, some games just don't click with you. I never could get a feel for that gameplay.

Primal Rage was big where I grew up along with Killer Instinct & Mortal Kombat...or really any arcade or fighter as We would hit the mall with small change or play sega channel at different friends abode or We were saving up for better controllers or cartridges. Different century (different times)
The minute you stop comparing Primal Rage to SNK or Capcom style fighters and treat it more like Rampage or King of the Monsters; it becomes so much more fun and hilarious, you missed out. Also, it's not just digitized; it's stop-motion animated with sculptures that they put mad effort into; so big disagree here on Primal Rage.

And that they ALSO learned NOTHING and made another pile of steaming dumpster fire is nothing short of amazing.

Most of them forgeteables. I played Golden Axe and is good, not as good as Samurai Shodown but good. Other ports such as Mortal Kombat or WWF were well ported. I don't know about Final Fight, seems correct. The others bullshit.

Tell you what. Start making UA-cam videos. Get about 30 under your belt. Then go back and watch the first few you made and see how rough they were. There are many videos on my channel that were among the first ones I ever filmed. This isn't as easy as it looks and you only get better as time goes on.
