I was there! My word, it was something very special indeed. This video can't quite capture the sheer scale of what that thing sounds like - it's simply breathtaking.
@Harrison Mauldin It was the entire film, played on a cinema screen, with the orchestra playing the music in the background. Also, Steven Hawking, Brian Cox, Christopher Nolan, Hans Zimmer, Michael Caine and Jessica Chastain turned up to intro it. They do them all the time at the RAH, I'd recommend checking them out!
So the band starts starts playing this at you funeral and that one annoying relative asks what are they doing,. Thats when you come out of your coffin and yell "DOCKING".😂😂😂
There's no doubt Interstellar's theme is legendary. I listen to it almost daily. But the "Budapest Hotel" theme fit really well with the movie (watch the movie and you will understand). I actually found all nominations really worthy. But yes, overall masterpiece is my beloved Interstellar
Saw Hans Zimmer live especially for this film score. When this particular theme played live, l was so transfixed that a friend of mine had wiped so much tears from my eyes and nose that she ran out of tissues. l didn't even feel her touch me.
I love how the music has different layers, and each layer has its own set of instruments which play out at a different pace. But once Cooper's craft is aligned with the Endurance, all instruments are lined up in the same tune (02:50).
Really want to know if the organ was amplified as well as the orchestra.. the sound in there was deafening on the night, but I believe the organ was designed to be the loudest in the world when it was made in 1870.
Why didn't any of them tell him that it wasn't docking properly? He probably would have believed her, then they could help him dock it properly, then done diplomacy.
JamEngulfer If I remember the movie correctly, CASE had put a security lockout which prevented docking by anyone but authorized personnel. But if Mann had gotten on board, he would have stranded them there. In his mind, he had already gone too far to turn back. He'd already tried to kill Cooper on the surface by shattering his helmet visor.
It was right behind the screen and it was huge but it was not visible in the dark. You can see the organist in that little box of light under the screen.
MrTwhispers Look up Royal Albert Hall Organ. It is the second largest pipe organ in Britain and it is a massive beast. You couldn't see it because the screen was in front of it. It's front pipes are 32 feet tall and wider than a man. That hall must have shook like an earthquake...
I watched this movie but I did not watch the ending... Someone had to stop it a 2 hours and 43 minutes. I did not continue it. And I don't O not want to buy it or rent
I mentioned this scene in my personal statement when applying to uni. They gave me an unconditional offer 90 minutes after my interview. Totally unforgettable experience.
I was here, been to many of these live performances at the Albert hall and have to say this scene was the highlight. it was mind blowing, hairs on the back of the neck and church organ. unreal experience like none other
As an indian i dont like the crappy bollywood songs either but your crappy blaring house music keeps me going lol, guess its just common to appreciate music you dont hear all the fucking time this movie just melts away my frigid self tho, i always tear up, nothing beats it, doubt nothing will ever come close to beating it
This is why the score to a film is, probably, more important that the cinematography itself. The music makes a movie. Watch the making of this score and you'll see just how excited Zimmer was when Nolan revealed the true nature of the movie. Then look at the other epics out there that made the movie. Horner and Braveheart, Zimmer and The Dark Knight trilogy, Williams and Star Wars. Movies that stand the test of time not just because of the story or memorable scenes but because of the score. If you learn to understand the score you find yourself transcending the images on screen and can totally loose yourself in the moment. Interstellar is one of those movies. Its not necessarily the image on screen or the story. It's the way the score allows your mind to become the fly on the wall of the events that are unfolding. You become part of it.
I remember seeing this movie in IMAX on the first day of release, planned it perfectly to make sure i got center seats and not too close to the screen. Right after Cooper pleads to Dr. Mann not to dock and then Mann blew himself up, When Dr Brandt then asks Cooper what he's doing, and he says..."docking". I lost my shit in the imax theater, I got goosebumps immediately and literally leaned forward audibly saying pretty loudly "what...the...fuck!?!". As the scene went on I remember thinking, Nolan... you crazy bastard , you just cranked the intensity up to a 10. Then the music tipped it over to an 11. That moment, that sequence with that music and the sound just blasting. Sensory Overload... I will never forget that experience
Cuando uno piensa que no hay nada perfecto aparece este video que combina la belleza de Nolan(Interestelar) y una orquesta en vivo con la joya de Hans Zimmer. Simplemente genial.
I wish I could have gone to this. To hear a live orchestra scoring the film must be an amazing experience. Let alone my favourite Sci Fi movie of the last decade.
The guy that plays the church organ..must feel the epicness flowing through his body xD
Ime8eos He's feeling over 9000, I guarantee it.

I do too. I've watched this about five times now.

Interstellar is truly legendary❤
I legit cry at this scene every time just because house impactful it is
3:27 - gets me all the time.... thats so epic dude i can't even find words for how amazed and obsessed i am with this movie and this score!
TheRealDexeN true man i am so obsessed it is almost 3 years now and still do
The reason it didn’t win an Oscar is because if it had, nothing else could have ever topped it.
You an me both. Its a masterpiece.
I listen to this every day
Me too, chills every time❤
I want to play this at my funeral, and so bloody loud the building is shaking on it's foundations
Wouter d.B. strange choice... this really isn't funeral music
Live orchestra to make it an epic funeral.
I'm pretty sure u will be going to heaven

Best scene in any movie ever :)
HalfLucan even the waves and the climax too..overall greatest movie of all
Yep, in my opinion, the only one that can hold a torch to it is Test Drive from How To Train Your Dragon.
You're the farthest away from home any human has ever been; it's just hit the fan and you HAVE to do something...Now. 'No Time for Caution', indeed!
Yet the Oscar for best soundtrack went to the Budapest Hotel...
This soundtrack is bigger than the Oscar
I would’ve preferred this to win, but let’s not disservice Alexandre Desplat’s incredible work either...
Also , why hasn’t Christopher Nolan won an Oscar yet ? Hopefully this time he will for TENET
oscar dont desrves intersteller ..so leave it

the applause lasted at least 20 mins!
I was there...it was simply stunning. When 1:16 kicked in, I held my partner's hand and goosebumps kicked in...
Ive been there too and when Rocket launched I was climaxing lol
The amount of goosebumps I got was incredible
Yes, they did. The orchestra played the whole soundtrack. I do have a fragment of it, but the quality is not so great.
+Mauro Battaglia How did they block out the actual music audio from the film as it played?
+MoMoMyPup10 I guess Warner Bros. provided them with a copy of the movie with the soundtrack removed.
MoMoMyPup10 it was for blu ray launch of the film so...
Do you have footage of the ending scene where he gives Murph the quantum data with the clock?
THAT SOUNDTRACK IS.... AWESOME!!!
NO ... IT IS LEGENDARY!!!
NO... IT'S OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!
I would of got goosebumps sitting in that audience
I bet it was so tense with the orchestra playing
EPIC
Seats were trembling...
I would drop everything to see this live. No one told me!
amazing i'm crying

I wish I could have heard it being played in the church in London where hanz recorded it.

They started the choir a bit early. It's after the second block after the climax is in, but it's epic nonetheless.

I guess all of the musicians had tinnitus after this.
