This was my question. Thank you so much for the answer! I think you hit the nail on the head. I don’t nap, nor do I have caffeine after 10am, but my days are SUPER busy with kids in 3 different schools and activities. I need to make a more intentional effort to release the pent up emotional energy during the day as it comes up.
I never thought of the freeze response the way you described it. I’ve always thought I didn’t have access to freeze since I go so easily into flight or fight. However, your description of laying there with a calm mind but active nervous system as freeze COVERING the fight/flight energy makes so much sense! Thank you again!!

I’ve never heard any of this type of sleep information. It’s so true. Thank you.

I know. I see sleep so differently than most people. I am glad you are getting some good information from these videos.

Genuine question here: is it possible that somatic work in itself can become an elaborate, anxiety-inducing sleep effort…? 🤔 Thank you btw for this thought-provoking video. 😘

@1timbarrett This is such a good question. And yes, any tool we use, even somatic work itself, can become anxiety-inducing. Especially if we are using it from a desperate energy of needing to fix ourselves or our sleep. However, when we can shift our mindset around the work and come at it from compassion and understanding, it reduces anxiety. I've recorded a video to answer this question, which will come out in a few weeks. I can explain it more in a video. When doing somatic work, it really needs to be titrated (meaning slow and steady) and not push too far or too fast. We need the nervous system to have time to integrate the work. And sometimes, when it goes slow - we feel the anxiety because we want it to go faster. Does that make sense?
