Now at last he's dead and gone! Now at last there's joy throughout the land! And goodness knows, the twisted lives are lonely, goodness knows, the twisted die alone (HE DIED ALONE!)
Ngl, twisted has the best recording of songs. Like they'll all pretty damn close to being the same as live. Some even sound like it was taken from the recorded show with just the laughter taken away. The other musical recordings often sound slightly different or as if they're missing something. 11/10 to twisted
My one complaint is Lauren, like, one solo line in No One Remembers Achmed. It just sounded strange with the rest of the song. Overall the best, though
He was the anti-hero they deserved, but not the one the one they needed (I'm surprised no one made that joke here before I did, especially in light of "Holy Musical, B@tman").
Jafar: "As a citizen, I think I would be grateful for the aid" Citizens: *flip him off on a regular basis* Jafar: "But if I were the sultan I should hate to be betrayed" Sultan: *took Jafar's wife and is a total dimwit* Jafar, I love you man, but sometimes you're too nice. Seriously.
Starkid: Cruella is the one Disney villain who can't be made more sympathetic. Disney: Oh, yeah? Watch us! Her mother was killed by dalmatians! Hey, why is everyone laughing?
This song is full of great puns. "the pride came before my fall". Scar fell off a cliff in front of his lion pride and was eaten by hyenas at the bottom.
there’s a lot of melodies from past songs in this I think- 1:01 sounds a bit like A Thousand and One Nights imo (I’m super late but god I’m so emotional over this okay)
I love the mutual hate for Cruella in the live version. I kind of wish they included that in this version, but then at the same time, the clean feeling of the recording is good, too!
3:11 I love the implication that Belle was actually ugly but Gaston still loved her for her intelligence. Makes a good decontextualization to an already deconstructed take on Beauty and the beast
The vocals are amazing especially at the end. Also I love the details put into the villains telling their stories mirroring their original stories. Ursula was the true ruler of the ocean but Triton got pissed off and took the throne by force, taking her looks and voice aswell which is why she wanted to give the people a voice because she lost hers.
Twisted is literally my fave StarKid show AJ really went off when composing and writing the lyrics for the show the way every piece of this show came together is amazing, and I always come back to it I think I can call this my favorite musical because it’s just *that* well done
this song somehow managed to be a better parody now than when it was made seeing how Disney tried to give the puppy murderer a sympathetic backstory and no one else
This song is great at making you feel bad for the other villains. Ursula is a victim of sexism, which is something that many can (unfortunately) relate to today, because sexism is a problem that still needs to be fixed. Scar lost his kids, how would one not feel bad for him? Gaston is a bit iffy, considering he still seems a bit like a creep for hitting on someone after they've shown no interest, but at least his heart was in the right place for the rescue mission. If I had to rank from least to most redeemed on a ranking list, I'd go 5. Maleficent (barely there) 4. Gaston (For explained reasons) 3. Hook (just trying to save a kid from becoming like them) 2. Ursula AND Scar (I can't choose. They were both in terrible situations, that were terrible for very different reasons) 1. Jafar (The main character, so he gets the most development, whereas the others still have the occasional spot of villainous deed, most of Jafar's actions are fixed in some way)
I mean, technically Maleficent is also in the right, because not inviting her but inviting everyone else would have been an act of war. Still horrible to curse an innocent child, but still.
@@simonsonian8977 Maleficent is also a faerie, so not inviting her would be a huge slight to her regardless. The curse is extreme, but it's in line with the fair folk - to a faerie, she's completely in the right.
This is literally my favourite song from a musical. Ever. Nothing else has touched me as personally at this. And I was so skeptical before even watching the musical in the first place, lol...
I adore this song. But the only way id make it perfect is when he sings 'its my time' is take out the background singers singing 'ahh' i think itd be just a neater sound of him being alone in his choice
Well he kinda wasn't alone in his decision. He had the fates of the other twisted villains loming over him, even though he decided to through the same path
@@Jane155-x6d i get that and i see why they did it like he was singing with them because hes joined the twisted villains, though hes singing about how no one can help him and having him singing alone would also make him stand out as he feels alone? I dont know if im explaining well lol
The thing with the ahh’s, is that I kinda sounds like No One Mourns The Wicked from the musical Wicked, which is probably where the idea for Twisted came from. It’s kinda like a way to include it in the musical. But, yeah, you’re right, it would’ve been a good symbolism if it had been by himself
Cruella's part 😂 gets me every time, lol. Everyone else is justifying their actions and coming off as mostly sympathetic, and then you have good old' Cruella De Ville who wants to skin puppies to make a coat, something no one could justify to most people.
Raven Boire Hamilton was off-broadway in 2015, while twisted came out in 2013. Hamilton was in workshop during the summer of 2013, in the same period when twisted was being already performed so yes, twisted is basically proto-hamilton for disney villains

Aside from the villains admonishing Cruella I really miss the pause before Jafar launches into his choice to become twisted. It gave it a bit more gravitas as he realized everything he'd been and worked for was dead and gone in that moment and he'd only be remembered as a monster from that point on.
They could go by actual Greek mythology. Hades got stuck into ruling the dead-it wasn't his choice, and he wasn't particularly evil, especially compared to Zeus or Poseidon.
