Have you seen the "Princess Bride Home Movie," made during the pandemic with an all-star cast for charity? Several actors play portions of each part. The final actor to play Fred Savage's character was Rob Reiner. His father Carl Reiner played the grandfather in his final appearance just 3 days before passing away at the age of 98. Hoo boy, I can't even type it without breaking up. It's on UA-cam if you want to see it.
that's what Andre did...his favorite thing was to buy tons of food and booze, and invite his friends to come see it, repeatedly. Never wished I was someone's friend more!!!
Oh, it's been memed. These are fun vids... but short, and ai mangled. Hope the creators will mend those minor issues... and stick with timeless nostalgia gems.
A couple of my friends & I met Carey Elwes 2x. First time was at our work--he was buying some home theater stuff from our store & we were helping him out--then a few weeks later, we were at a local bar/restaurant hanging out & he walked in with his wife. We saw him and were talking about how nice he was but we just let him be. Well, he recognized us! He walked over, introduced us to his wife, remembered all of our names and had a casual chat with us while they were waiting to be seated for dinner. Genuinely such a cool, charming guy.
Actually paraphrased from history. As depicted in the World War II film "A Bridge Too Far," an exchange between besieged British troops and the surrounding Germans.
For years and years, we only had a duped copy of this movie on VHS and something glitchy happened right at this moment in the recording. Our copy had no sound for about 3-4 seconds. Al you could see was the conversation and then the guard sheepishly fumbling the key out of his cloak. For YEARS, I wondered WTF they said to him to get him to cough it up. ;-)
The best part was the two of them got together months before they were filmed, and put thier characters together, together. That's why they worked so well.
"...but after what you just said, I'm not even sure I want to be _that_ anymore!" Carol reprised her "Simka" voice, from her days as Andy Kaufman's girlfriend in _Taxi._ She has used this hilarious voice in various films o'er the years, including _Scrooged...._
I enjoyed the bickering over what Westley was able to say after the bellows and pressing on his chest... Billy's line -- "To Blave... " 😂🤣🙃 (Blathe? Blave? I guess I'll have to watch this movie over and over again until I'm sure I've heard it clearly. 😉)
Since my son was quite young, when he would leave the house I would say "Have fun storming the castle", then he replies "Do you think it will work?" and I say " It'll take a miracle". This has been going on since about 1995 or so. He's 35 now.
My sister and I do the same thing whenever one of us leaves the other's house. We are old enough that we both saw "The Princess Bride" in the theater when it came out initially. We both have adult children now. Definitely the most quotable move that I know of!
When the idea of a remake of Princess Bride was proposed, Cary famously posted on social media (Twitter?): “There is a shortage of perfect movies in this world. It would be a pity to ruin this one.” Absolutely. Perfect. Comeback.
Actually, in sailing, a tactic used to catch a ship your chasing is to ride their wake and have your sails steal their wind. So the fact that Dread Pirate, Roberts was gaining on them would make the ship in front worry if they were using the same wind as the them.
The love for this movie is well deserved. When there was a move to re-make it, the public outcry was shocking, but the reality is that I do not think that a modern version could match the excellence of the original.
I wish they would just do a "Princess Bride LIKE" instead of remaking everything. By all means, rip off the past, but make something new that's LIKE that. Make an original story about four dorks chasing cryptids and setting traps. Adapt a fairytale Disney has never covered, there's still dozens of them. Show us the lives of... I dunno, TIGERS. And if you really want, make an offbeat, quirky low-fantasy story about true love that is simultaneously hilarious and full of heart. Hell maybe have a reversed backstory, where the GUY gets kidnapped while he's off working to pay for their wedding, and it's the girl who has to come find him in America. I'd watch that.

Me too - it was my favorite book as a kid; and they cast it perfectly. The only flaw is that they didn’t show the hazardous journey down to the Zoo of Death.
I loved that book from the first time I read it in middle school. I love the movie, too. The weird thing is that my favorite lines from the book aren't in the movie. Your love for me is a grain of sand; my love for you is a thousand beaches. Life isn't fair. it's just fairer than death.

Then, one day in class, he was talking about something, I can't remember what, but he took off his glasses and said, "That would just be... inconceivable!" We all laughed, but the jig was up. :)
My favorite line: When the Dread Pirate Roberts responds to Inigo: "No one of consequence." I have actually used that line over the years when people have asked me who I am. It is perfect!
Hello my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die I annoyed my family with that line so much they begged me to stop - I said As you Wish . I so loved that movie.
I used to use the line "Have fun storming the castle..." with my girlfriend (later wife) for several years before she finally asked me what the hell i was talking about... 😮 I immediately rented the movie & it immediately became a family favorite, spawning dozens more "inside jokes" between us. 😂😂 My other favorites are "You keep using that word - I do not think it means what you think it means" & "Rodents of Unusual Size? I don't believe they exist....arrrgh!"
“ It's possible, Pig, I might be bluffing. It's conceivable, you miserable, vomitous mass, that I'm only lying here because I lack the strength to stand. But, then again... perhaps I have the strength after all.” Man, one of the all-time favorites, that only gets better every time you see it, and esp after hearing all the off-screen tales.
It's a blast to have a bunch of friends who have all the movie memorized get together and watch it with the volume off and everyone does the lines out loud together.
Prophetic? Andre: “Why are you wearing a mask? Were you burned with acid or something like that?” Westley: “Oh no. It’s just that they are terribly comfortable. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future!” Yup
Too many good lines to pick a favourite. This is an all round great movie. Action and adventure with a touch of romance. I wish more movies could capture the perfect balance of The Princess Bride.
Did you see this wonderful thing a bunch of actors made during the pandemic, where they all filmed themselves at home, acting out the movie scene by scene? They change to a different group every so often, and Rainn Wilson's Vizzini is just impeccable. All of them clearly love the movie and were pouring themselves into it.
"Get used to disappointment." (from the sword duel) IMHO, that is an encapsulation of the story's theme: that life is not a fairytale, and you should get used to disappointment. The novel has a more ambiguous ending than the movie.
@@FactsVerse Heck, I don't know. I looked over the videos on your channel page and you seem to cover a gamut of subjects, not just popular entertainment. This one about The Princess Bride just caught my eye since it is one of my favorite fantasies.
@@normastone1044 Thx! But I'd call it matter-of-fact rather than snark, but that subjective. No matter. What I admire about that scene is that Elwes and Pantinkin did it all themselves and trained with swords every spare moment. Probably my favorite scene in the whole movie.
One of my favorite lines is from that maniac Humperdink: "Skip to the end." It has to be the perfect response when someone's taking too long on the obvious while a crisis is brewing.
"As you wish." I have on occasion used it with friends and family. Great line. Also, "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." And when saying goodbye sometimes, "have fun storming the castle!" seems apropos. "Inconceivable" is another good one. Many lines from the Princess Bride are lexicon in my common vernacular. In FlickChart I have Princess Bride listed as my favorite movie of all time, among over fifteen hundred other films I've seen.
Yeah, they had two trainers: one who (among other things) had choreographed numerous fight scenes in movies and one who was an Olympic fencer. They not only had to learn to fence, but had to learn to do it with both hands. Fortunately, they got good enough that when the director wanted the scene to be twice as long as they had choreographed they were able to pick up the moves quickly.
Favorite line: "...Look who knows so much. It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive..."
Now that Carol Kane is on Star Trek and plays a character who is Centuries Old, if they don't give her a moment where she tells the Away crew:"Have Fun Storming ..............." it will be criminal
It's my absolute favorite movie. I always loved it when Wesley said, "As you wish," but you could tell by the look on his face that he was telling Buttercup, "I love you." And when Grandpa says "As you wish" to Fred Savage at the end, it always makes me cry! ❤️
Our family loves this movie. I remember when my daughter was 5 years old she would put her little hands on her hips with perfect accent and inflection," my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die" so cute.
The final "As you wish" line was the best one to me, because by that point, both grandpa and grandson knew what he was really saying. It's just such a beautiful way of saying "I love you". (The fact that the very last acting job Carl Reiner ever filmed was that scene when they did the less that serious "reshoot" during Coronavirus somehow makes the line even more piognant, since he was delivering it to his own son, Rob.
The Home Movies version! And yes, it’s so touching knowing that he died only 2 days later. What a perfect end to both versions of the movie, and to Carl Reiner’s acting.
Love this Movie! First Movie I ever bought when Blue Ray was introduced. “Inconceivable” is among so many great and memorable lines! So happy you made this Tim! Great job! 👏
Probably `my` favorite is the "You keep using that word, but I do not think it means what you think it means," however, I had a boss when I worked construction who used to paraphrase the line "Good night. Good work. Sleep well. I’ll most likely kill you in the morning. " with "Good night! Good Job! I'll most likely fire you in the morning!" It's amazing how annoying that can be after about a month! lol
"You keep using that word....I don't think it means what you think it means" I would highly recommend the book "As You Wish" written by Elwes about the making of the movie. Had some terrific stories about Andre
Oh my favourite line is while they're going through the fire swamp and Wesley says will.I wouldn't want to build a summer home here , but actually the trees are quite lovely.
I was a guest at a very moving wedding, on top of a hill in Scotland. The Princess Bride is the bride and groom’s favorite movie. The first words out of the officiant’s mouth were those lines. We all cracked up. I’ll never forget it.
When my nephew got married in a non-denominational ceremony, various friends and family had readings. The very first reading was by his brother, who started off with "Marriage is what brings us together today.....". You could tell who in the audience got the reference, because they were trying desperately not to laugh.
There's a local garden place where I live (and that I drive by going to and from work) that has a wedding venue as part of its business, and they have a sign out where they put up the names of the couple whenever there's a wedding reception there, and often include some romantic type saying along with that (i.e. "Bob and Mary, together forever"). A couple of times they've put up "Mawiage is what brings us together today" as the message, and I've had to laugh.
Mawage. Mawage is wot bwings us together today. Mawage, that blessed awangement, that dweam wifin a dweam. And wuv, tru wuv, will fowwow you foweva. So tweasure your wuv
I like the story that Carey Elwes knew the movie reached its audience when he ordered a burger at a restaurant and the waitress asked how he wanted it and she replied "as you wish" when he told her
There are so many fantastic lines from The Princess Bride, it's one of my all time favourite movies. However, I will always have a special connection with: "You hear that your highness? Those are the shrieking eels." The reason is that when my Son was little, he misheard/ misremembered and thought they were the squeaking seals, which had me rolling on the floor with tears of laughter streaming down my cheeks and to this day, still makes me grin like a cheshire cat.
Thank you for your comment. 😆 Now when I picture in my imagination the Muppet version that I would very much enjoy, I will picture this scene with seals and beach balls. 🤣
"As you wish...." The perfection of this movie is that you are instantly pulled into the scene with every quote, hearing and seeing it play in your mind.
I had read the book before ever I saw any mention of a movie. I enjoyed the movie very much, but there was one line that I did not really grasp until somewhere around 2022 oe '23. At the very end, when Peter Falk's grampa character turns to his grandson and says, "As you wish," somehow I missed the fact that he was telling the lad "I love you." Now if I see that line I get tears in my eyes for how very deeply sweet it is.
This is one of my sons absolute favorite movies. A few years back our theater was playing it again and I found out a friend had never seen it so we had her come with us. Imagine her surprise when the entire theater was packed, not a single empty seat and everyone said all the lines 😂😂😂
A lot of famous lines from many movies are from improvisation. The line from Jaws, "We're gonna need a bigger boat" was improvised. Also, Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones shooting the swordsman was improvised because he had an upset stomach that day and was frustrated he was going to have to leave to do his business again, but the other actor went with it and fell. They liked it so much that they kept it instead of having a long fight.
There was something beautiful about the Princess Bride's story.... from the relationship of the grandfather and grandson and the story being told... it was all beautiful for me, as a child... I loved it all.
Mine too. “You mock my pain. Never do it again. I died that day. And you can die too for all I care” “Aaaaas yooouuuu wiiiiiiish” “Oh my sweet Wesley!” Throws herself down the hill. Hilarious end to a tense and emotional scene.
I saw Princess Bride in the theater only once, when I was still in middle school. By time I graduated from high school I had seen it no less than a dozen times in the classroom of all places. It was by far the most frequently screened commercial film in my public school during my time there.
The "Mostly Dead" quote has been oh, so overused by paramedics teaching newer paramedic students about cardiac arrest calls: When asked about the moral and ethical question of even attempting resuscitation that scene brings it home. 15-20% of the time they were indeed slightly alive and we can make a positive impact the the patient's and their families lives.
It's possible, Pig, I might be bluffing. It's conceivable, you miserable, vomitous mass, that I'm only lying here because I lack the strength to stand.
Well a toss up for favorite line.... No more rhyming I mean it! Anyone want a peanut? The whole Totally and in all ways inconceivable bits. Also I don't envy you the head ache you will have when you wake up, but sleep well and dream of large women. Okay, "I am the Dread Pirate Roberts! You are here, but soon you will not be here! I have come for your souls. I think there was also there will be no survivors.....
Regarding Mandy Patinkin's reason for taking the part of Inigo Montoya: Inigo's last line before he kills Count Rugen happens to be, "I want my father back, you S-- of -- a b---."
I was lucky to have met 2 actors from The Princess Bride - Billy Crystal first about 6 or 7 years ago and Cary Elwes last year after The Princess Bride screening in my home town. Both were very nice and engaging. My favorite line from the movie is "As you wish", of course!
My sister had a college project to study the role of music in Media. The Princess Bride was her subject. I watched her watch this on VHS over and over. I still love it!

My other favorites are "You keep using that word - I do not think it means what you think it means" & "Rodents of Unusual Size? I don't believe they exist....arrrgh!"
Introduced my husband to princess bride. We quote it often. I tell him have fun storming the castle every morning when he is heading to work
“ It's possible, Pig, I might be bluffing. It's conceivable, you miserable, vomitous mass, that I'm only lying here because I lack the strength to stand. But, then again... perhaps I have the strength after all.” Man, one of the all-time favorites, that only gets better every time you see it, and esp after hearing all the off-screen tales.
"Drop... your... sword."
"No more rhyming now. I mean it."
"Anybody want a peanut?"

It's a blast to have a bunch of friends who have all the movie memorized get together and watch it with the volume off and everyone does the lines out loud together.
That sounds like going to a midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show back in the 80's.
Or Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Another movie that fans have memorized.
Prophetic?
Andre: “Why are you wearing a mask? Were you burned with acid or something like that?”
Westley: “Oh no. It’s just that they are terribly comfortable. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future!” Yup

My favorite line is from the kid to his grandfather reading the book, “A kissing book! Is this a kissing book, grandpa?”
Some day you may not mind so much.
Too many good lines to pick a favourite. This is an all round great movie. Action and adventure with a touch of romance. I wish more movies could capture the perfect balance of The Princess Bride.
It’s also funny !!
Yes too many good lines - to pick one out of so many would simply be "inconceivable!"
I'm 61 now and this is still in my top 5 movies of all time. I've watched back to back a couple of times just because i needed the joy.
"I do not envy you the headache you will have when you away. Meanwhile, rest well, and dream of large women."
I use this line when I am saying good night to my lover!

I can’t picture anyone doing Wallace Shawns part better than he did.
I agree 100%. As great as Danny D and Richard D are and might have been, Ibelieve Wallace Shawn was ideal part for the part.
It's inconceivable
Did you see this wonderful thing a bunch of actors made during the pandemic, where they all filmed themselves at home, acting out the movie scene by scene? They change to a different group every so often, and Rainn Wilson's Vizzini is just impeccable. All of them clearly love the movie and were pouring themselves into it.
@KairuHakubi thank you for letting me know about that

@@FactsVerse Christopher Guest as Count Rugen. Great bad guy. (And, his mockumentaries/documentaries are priceless!)
"Get used to disappointment." (from the sword duel) IMHO, that is an encapsulation of the story's theme: that life is not a fairytale, and you should get used to disappointment. The novel has a more ambiguous ending than the movie.
Interesting, thanks for sharing! What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
@@FactsVerse Heck, I don't know. I looked over the videos on your channel page and you seem to cover a gamut of subjects, not just popular entertainment. This one about The Princess Bride just caught my eye since it is one of my favorite fantasies.
Yes, this one! The perfect blend of snark and reality check!!
Man and wife! Say man and wife!

"We are men of action, lies do not become us".
This is the best line you could say to an adversary.
If only our politicians would take this advice onboard…
For whatever reason, this line has always resonated with me. There are so many more often quoted fabulous lines. It's not funny. But it's powerful.
Twenty-seven years as an Army chaplain ... Yes, I've had occasion to quote this line.
The fencing scene was just fantastic! My husband was astounded and he was the trainer for a swordplay scene.

As a grandpa now, the most memorable, most impactful line for me is "As you wish!"

It's my absolute favorite movie. I always loved it when Wesley said, "As you wish," but you could tell by the look on his face that he was telling Buttercup, "I love you." And when Grandpa says "As you wish" to Fred Savage at the end, it always makes me cry! ❤️
Glad to know that you're a fan of Princess Bride! Who is your favorite cast member?
@FactsVerse Cary Elwes with Mandy Patinkin a close second.

Good work. Sleep well. I’ll most likely kill you in the morning. " with "Good night! Good Job! I'll most likely fire you in the morning!" It's amazing how annoying that can be after about a month! lol

Mawwige. (Marriage)
... has bwortus togewaa. - I threatened to use that when taking a wedding for a family member. The whole family knew the movie well 😂
I was a guest at a very moving wedding, on top of a hill in Scotland. The Princess Bride is the bride and groom’s favorite movie. The first words out of the officiant’s mouth were those lines. We all cracked up. I’ll never forget it.

And wuv.
When my nephew got married in a non-denominational ceremony, various friends and family had readings. The very first reading was by his brother, who started off with "Marriage is what brings us together today.....". You could tell who in the audience got the reference, because they were trying desperately not to laugh.
Mawwaige! I don't know how to spell it, but when he said "marriage," it cracks me up every time!
I have a tshirt with a bishop's mitre (the hat), and Mawwage on it. It takes a moment, but lots of people get it.
Did he do it in the accent of the priest??? That would've been hilarious.

I like the story that Carey Elwes knew the movie reached its audience when he ordered a burger at a restaurant and the waitress asked how he wanted it and she replied "as you wish" when he told her
"You ARE the brute squad." That one gets high mileage at D&D games.
@nadinegriffin5252 lol, oh wow, yes, that would be comedy gold! 😅
"As you wish...."
The perfection of this movie is that you are instantly pulled into the scene with every quote, hearing and seeing it play in your mind.
I watch it every year! 35 years of enjoyment, I can’t say that about any other movie.
“Don’t worry, boss, I won’t let it go to my head!”
As you wish I would say it to my Bride until her passing.

Favorite line...wesley tumbling down the hill saying "AS....YOU.....WIIIIISH!!!"
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. The acting was brilliant casting was perfect. The only sad part is Andre died too young.
There was something beautiful about the Princess Bride's story.... from the relationship of the grandfather and grandson and the story being told... it was all beautiful for me, as a child... I loved it all.

“You mock my pain. Never do it again. I died that day. And you can die too for all I care”
“Aaaaas yooouuuu wiiiiiiish”

Hilarious end to a tense and emotional scene.
I saw Princess Bride in the theater only once, when I was still in middle school. By time I graduated from high school I had seen it no less than a dozen times in the classroom of all places. It was by far the most frequently screened commercial film in my public school during my time there.
There were two great movies that came out at about the same time, The Princess Bride, and Willow. Both tugged at our hearts, but in different ways.
