That thing seems like the perfect mod guitar! 260 then add pickups, tuners and new bridge and you got a beast axe for less than 800 bucks! Great review!
So, like a mid-tier LTD, Schecter, Ibanez, Cort, or anything else, without having to do all the work of replacing 75% of the components, and the bonus of probably having decent fretwork?
I am not going to mention the guitar I am referencing, but before I bought mine, I noticed a trend between down-to-earth guitar players reviewing the said guitar, and the elite-level guitar reviewers on YT........The elites scoffed at the guitar while the D.T.E reviews were blown away. See, these days, a company cannot suffer a competitors product that costs THOUSANDS less and surpasses build quality......and the elites cannot support the cheap gear because they will not make their money. Reviews are getting out of hand and cannot be fully trusted anymore. Great talent and video!!!!
Even then, some of those more expensive guitars have come in with a bunch of different issues for me personally. I've had less issues with the lesser expensive guitars. my prestige 7th string has the most horrible fret buzz with the correct string gauge/tuning ratio and ive had 2 different guys set it up and i've had to settle for high action so i barely play it anymore. i've also had terrible luck with higher end schecter models as well. i just recently got a chapman for around 500 usd and man i love it. Unless its an ibanez iceman i dont think i'll ever spend too much on a guitar again. People like Glenn from SpectreSoundStudios and david are our saviors.
@@vinceceb Very well stated! If I would have listened to the elite reviewers, I would not have had the unexplainable positive experience that occurred with my new guitar. It is sitting right next to a 1,500 Stratocaster and it is embarrassing. I paid 1,300 less and got 3,000 more in terms of feel, build and materials. I keep looking the new guitar over for just one minor flaw and cannot find it......UNBELIEVABLE!!! By the way, the Strat has a twisted neck, rendering the upper register unplayable. I did not find this out until months later as back then I did not play lead, just cowboy chords. It was not until a friend played it for a total of 30 seconds before he figured out it was total trash. Have a great day, kind friend and keep on rocking!!!!
I stopped trusting UA-cam reviews from the Spark amp. It sounds nothing like the demos and the practice features barely work. It's an okay practice amp but it was way way over hyped and a lot of the reviewers just lied.
with that kind of distortion is hard to tell the difference. A clean sound would be better for a comparison, so we can actually listen to the guitar body tone, sustain, etc. As with any guitar, all effects and EQ can be customized to best suit the instrument as Wood, string gauge, mics will resonate and produce a different sound. It would be better if you play it direct with no effects whatsoever? So we can hear the difference from the comparison presented.
i have this guitar, bought it when it was still under the name "subzero". Love it, didn't change anything about it. I recorded some songs with it and the only issue i had with it was the jack port being a bit lose, screw it in and it was fixed. I think i got lucky with mine since the fretwork is flawless for me. I just wished it had a a coil split, otherwise i didn't think much of the pickups, when i recorded with it they minimally affected my tone and in a mix the difference was non-existent. And yeah the tuners are great. Thanks for the vid was interesting to hear your thoughts on it :D
I have one of these. I swapped out the pickups for Fishman Abasi's and it sounds fantastic. It's now my go-to. After a proper set it it plays better then my Sheckter and my Ibanez Jem. They're well worth it, even when you price in new pickups
I bought one too see if I'd like an 8 string as much as I thought I would. The problems I found were the same problems you found. The good things about it were the same good things you found. Sold it since and bought a strandberg nx8 and an ibanez ftm33.... this guitar made me know how much I like 8 string guitars.
I had forgot about the guitar review once you kicked in demo riffage. That was some sick SCHUNK! Like back when new Shuggah dropped, everybody go away I'm listening and locked in!
I bought one of these and had to send it back due to how bad the frets were. So scratchy and unpolished. Returned it and bought the pink g4m 8 string with a maple neck and it is absolutely perfect for a first 8 string
Got the exact same one and for me, as a newbie with extended range, its the perfect introduction. Had to send the first one back, beacuse the nut was messed up horribly and it had a little blemish on the body. But now, with the new one I'm super happy. Neck Pick up is shit, but as a Project Guitar, you shouldn't sleep on this. Expect differences in the finish, the first one I got felt a little smoother, but that is - if we are honest - justifiable for a 280 Euro guitar. Customer Support was super quick tho and didn't give me any trouble.
A lot of these budget guitars can be great if you swap out pickups. I had a Jackson 7 string, like the cheap $200 one, slapped some Fishman's in there and the thing sounds just as good as my Stranberg. I had to do some changes with the setup to get the action feeling buttery, but it's actually a really solid guitar. I get that impression from this one here. With modern machining, you can build a very solid quality platform cheaply, but there's no way around building or purchasing quality pickups. So when you buy budget guitars like this, just know that the main thing to focus on is how it feels. If you're a beginner, by the time you actually want to start recording stuff you should easily have a couple hundred bucks to spend on a set of quality pickups. You can even fit actives in there too, I just stuffed my 9V inside with the pots. It's not too hard to solder either, some of the diagrams can be weird though so maybe stick with pickups that have an installation tutorial on UA-cam
Cool axe!👍 Glenn Fricker might want to look at this and see for himself whether pickups really make a difference as far as metal tones are concerned. In some cases they are subtle; but in others (like this one), they appear significant…🤔
The tone isn’t a WHOLE lot different between the two (judging from my phone speakers) but maybe… it’s just the tone? Or I’m not a big fan of it lol it is quite a bit tighter on the schecter but I’m sure it sounds a lot better in a full mix
I’m shopping for an 8 string and that has a good low end and comfortable neck for soloing… But one that doesn’t look like it’s from space. Do you recommend anything?
6:43 pickups sure aren’t great, but the main problem is either tuning or intonation, or maybe both at the same time. It sounds extremely out of tune in comparison to the schecter. I hope the reason is not incorrectly installed frets and you just need to tinker with bridge saddles, otherwise it’s lethal.
Yo yo, got a question. Got the guitar earlier this week, got a problem with the pickups buzzing like HELL. Not like a "cheap pickup"-type of buzz, but something is clearly off. Did you have the same problem, and if so, what did you do to it?
Thanks for the reply. I've gone through troubleshooting the possible ground issue, but it still persists. Might just be that cheap pickups are picking up the annoying ground noise in my apartment. Gonna change the pickups anyway and hopefully that fixes it. @@thedavidshreds
@@jerekyro1549 I have this guitar too, and I also have a buzzing issue. My home office has two vivariums in it and during lights on, the pickups buzz like hell unless I can find a 'sweet spot' in the room. During lights out and sitting away from my pc monitors it sounds 1000% better.
I have one of these coming on trade next week, but interesting to compare between the RG8 and this. The RG8 pickups are pretty turd (being six string bass pickups)
The pickup comparison sounded kinda similar 😂🤷♂️🤷🏽♂️ If this thing isn't on amazon, I'm just going to finally pickup the g style ( or glarry? 🤔 ) straight fret 8 string....or the one that's a kit, so I can put the neck, bridge, and pickups on my old ibanez rg7, making it an 8.
Thanks for the review. NGL, I dislike most 8 string guitars usually due to them being poorly designed. Even 7 string guitars have several downsides. Fan-fretted instruments with more than 7 strings are *a must* in my book. That being said, I do a lot of experiments with clean tones -- having bad PUPs is a BIG turnoff. I would be forced to find or order customized PUPs to make this work. Then I would wish that it had some sort of floaty trem system. I guess I'm stuck being contented with 6 strings once again.
I would like to hear this in clean and with some treble oriented stuff, but really cool review tho!! the world really needs more cheap shitty guitars for the road and less fancy big brand garbage for the bedroom or the museum

idk the harley benton one doesnt have a dumbass supreme logo looking head stock. Cheap knock off burl doesn't make me over look how dumb the headstock both looks and is designed. Id rather have the headstock that will allow me to use most 8 string string packs. Ran in to that issue with gear4music's baritone. The distance from the nut to the low E peg really limits you. Plus all the other stuff you mentioned that is wrong with it. Idk man the argument that this guitar is somehow cooler when out of the box its objectively worse than the harley benton ones because of looks is wild to me but you do you.
