thank you soo much for this step by step tutorial and your honesty! I am trying to transition for several weeks now and thought I was super slow or even unable to pick the skill up - you saying it took some time for you as well really gives me confidence! Sooner or later I will turn! Thank you 😍
I have been doing drills, at first I looked like a baby giraffe, now starting to get it. May be in several days of practice it will become easier. Not even trying for derby but just basic skating. Its awesome advice!!
"On purpose"!!! You got me. One of my teammates pointed out to me that I can and do open up my hips/feet all the way, but I get scared and pull back. When my ankle heals (fell doing a plow stop on the skills test lmao) I'm gonna practice maybe shouting something silly like reciting a vine video or shouting "COMMIT!". Thanks!
@@MarilynTantrum UPDATE: I *think* i'm doing transitions right for derby, i'm definitely having an easier time staying open i think! the month off is once again a miracle worker!
@@MarilynTantrum One more update: besides the first 2-3 weeks of this semester (which started Jan 8th) I've been skating in practice at least once a week but mostly twice a week (My Music Composition major had some required concerts that conflicted with our practices :( ) and I got scared of transitions again for a while while trying them at speed, but I can pretty effectively do them over my right shoulder (my good side) and I've started loosening up and getting them on my left side! My teammates say I likely would've passed the skills test if I had been able to finish it (There was insane traffic one practice night and I had to leave early for one of those mandatory concerts so the person running the test go there late) but we're having a bout vs ourselves this sunday, and I'm likely going to be filling out a ref position or other Non-Skate-Officer positon. Hoping we can do another round of skills testing early next semester!
perfect timing thank you so much fo the video! We are just learning to transition in derby but not really been shown small steps to progress up to it, just kind of told to do it. As someone whose still just getting the hang of being on wheels it's been really daunting. thank you for the tips I will try to practice these now at home and hopefully get more confident!!
This is perfect, it's so nice to have actual steps to work up to doing a full transition! :) For someone like me who doesn't do derby, what's a disco turn? I haven't had luck finding any info on it, does it go by another name? Thanks!
When pivoting, I was somehow under the impression that you pivot on toes when turning backwards and on heels when turning to the front. Did I imagine that? Does it matter? Is it just preference or is it truly a must? I prefer to pivot on my toes, but I get the sense that doing that when pivoting from back to front at high speeds may spell trouble..... Help?
@@MarilynTantrum thank tou for responding! Just ordered some. A lot of places have sold out their wheels but my shop happened to have some of these in stock.
I don’t see where it says the type of skates & wheels your wearing. I’m looking to buy some for dance skating/also good for skating around parks. Thank you for your help! And love your tutorials!!!
The way you break these things down is so helpful!! Thank you!
Thank you so much for the feedback ^.^

Hello 👋 a disco turn is very fun. It’s like a half circle motion where you don’t take your skate wheels off the ground.

It seems harder to so with my heel skates. Is it easier with your derby skates?
This is amazing!! Love your videos, they have helped me so much! Where are your tights from?
Thank you 🙏 they are from rock ware
Love this thank you so much I love your videos.
Thank you 😊
How have the presto wheels held up?
Great - I love them. I think this is my 3rd pair, I use them ALOT

Excuse me ma'am, where were your knee pads?😂
In my skate bag 😀 I like to show people the knee bend -And like I say in most of my videos , I’m not the gear police 😆 Risk vs reward 😍😍
@@MarilynTantrum fair enough! 😂 mine are still in the car from mondays training... I'm not looking forward to smelling them on saturday training🤢
