  • The focal point of todays video is to highlight the basics of layout and folding of just a basic rectangular duct. It's not rocket science, its just a little thought and a pair of tin snips. Well....you need a few pieces of machinery too. Once you learn how much to allow for the various folds or machines, basically those dimensions are merely added to the dimensions of the required duct during the process of the layout procedure. #fabrication, #sheetmetal, #ductwork

Heck Zane, I get asked to do so many things and make a ton of videos that don't seem to find their way to the editing que. I know there's at least 50 or more I'll probably never get to. From 4 and 5 years ago like this one. Thanks for stopping in for another one my friend.

Hey Tractorman. About two years ago you put out a video about making sheet metal boxes and I spoke to you in the comments about where getting a sheet metal brake. Back then I knew nothing about making anything. Fast forward to today and I work at the local University's machine shop running lathes and mills and stuff.
Your project was one of the very first that I made in my metal working journey. Thanks for chatting with me back then. I did buy that metal brake from harbor frieght. And a bunch of other stuff too haha.

I've thought about you a few times since then wondering if you'd gotten started !! Awesome !! And thank you for touching base and letting me know how well you've progressed. Any skill you learn cannot ever be taken away from you. I love these kind of comments, btw.

No big deal. We were out of town over two weeks and have been covered up with playing catch up with every thing that got no attention while gone. Thanks Bobby, for your concern, but all is well !! We were kinda remote and had the poorest of poor internet, so I couldn't upload a single thing.

Hahahaha....she's used to it. I think. I literally hate to take the time to sit still that long. For many many years I'd only get two haircuts at the most in a year.

Thxs for digging through your old videos. I'm assuming you don't have a 4' shear to cut the metal. Presently catching up on UA-cam in the shade in my backyard. It's 96° at 4 o'clock this afternoon. Looking forward to October. Thxs for the vids.

It's been a bit warm for sure David. No matter, because as an hvac tech I prefer temperatures below zero or over a hundred.....(-; I only have a 36" shear. It's an old Pexto I've had since about '85 and sits protected from the grand kids. It's got the back guages too so for many years I'd use it to cut scrap material into 3" and 2 1/8" for the S and drive machine.
I sold that machine along with an Engle 20 ga chain drive Pittsburgh machine and another 8' Dries and Krump. Then last year or so I sold another Dreis and Krump 8' brake too. I still have the drive rolls on the back of the current Lockformer and have a few thousand 2 1/8 various length stacked under the bench when I need them.

I thought I was watching a Geico commercial when I saw your beard and hair.
So easy a caveman could do it😁
I do have a question though....
I am not a sheet metal man, but I did buy a 12 inch, 3 in 1 metal working tool for a few small projects.
My question is, what is the device called you use for marking that I see you drag along the sheet metal?
    Thanks in advance and...
Have a Jesus filled day everyone
    Greg in Michigan
Ps I don't mind older videos when they're new to me👍

Hahahahaha.....caveman. Now THAT's funny. Appropriate, but funny. I gotta read this one to the Missus. LOL The marking too is a home made scribe. I get a lot of questions about it so one time I made a video on it: ua-cam.com/video/zRXoHiUb1m4/v-deo.html Thanks for the question Greg and I hope the day finds you blessed.

Thanks for a great video, very enjoyable.
Why is it called a pittsburgh lock (I didn't know the name) and who named it?

    • @tractorman4461
      @tractorman4461  19 днів тому

You know, I just don't know WHAT the origin of the name Pittsburgh is or even WHY its called that. I never really thought of it enough before. LOL That's in itself strikes me as funny now.

Poo Poo to all that think you need a haircut. My last hair cut was in 2009. I used to grow it out and cut it off to send to Wigs for Kids, or Locks of Love, but they don't seem to want hair with gray in it , so I just keep it to warm my head in the winter 🤣

Hahahahaha....When I got out of the Marines in Feb of '75 I swore I'd never get a haircut again. Well that worked for about a year. So I kept my hair long and a bit wild until it started thinning pretty bad about 10 years ago. It looks kinda funny bald on top with long sides....All I'd need would be a big red rubber nose and I'd be able to get another job.

Forget the red rubber nose, with a gray rug, you could be the next Albert Einstein!

@@bluegrallis All except for the brain power maybe. LOL I gotta tell ya, my time was a cakewalk with the Marines. I tested high in math (that's what they told me anyway) and so they stuck me in electrician school. Then 2 of my 4 years was in Kaneoehe Bay, Hawaii. Really tough to have an all expense paid vacation that lasted 2 full years in Hawaii !! To top it off I was in the Air Wing and not the ground pounding half of the base. Then the rest of my time was in Parris Island SC as 1 of 3 crew chiefs in Base Maintenance. Sgt E-5 as discharged.
Thanks for the acknowledgment, that's much more than we got in the mid '70's coming home. Not that I thought I deserved anything but we didn't deserve the vitriol and outright hate by so many of the general public, no matter what job we were given. I couldn't even get a job until I left the military service off my job applications in '75. Things are much different now for those coming home. Rant over. LOL

@@tractorman4461 graduated High School in 71, so I had watched the cluster $#@& in Nam for 4 years . What I saw, was politicians trying to run a war, when it should have been left to the experts in the military.
I drew a 348 for a lottery number, and had no plans of joining up, though I had always wanted to join the Air Force and learn to fly.
The non welcome home for those that served, was sickening, a sad time in our history. Guys did what they were told, but weren't allowed to 'win' is all I thought of.

Hahahaha....I've gotten one or two chop jobs since I made this video in 2020 Keith. And I also have to admit I've squeezed a tin snip a time or two. Thankfully the opportunity is becoming more and more infrequent now a days.
