I’ve spent weeks at a time, many days walk from the road, in the mountains. Never was scared of any four legged animal that I came across (maybe that one time in Montana with the Moose). But I’m ALWAYS wary of any humans I meet. Especially if I’m off the beaten path.
I just lost my Malinois who was my “extra nose” in the wilderness. Although I usually smelled the Bear before he did. But he always heard the humans before I did.

So sorry for your loss. I know how much dogs mean to us. I had a scare just last week with my 10yo blue heeler mix. She's my shadow 24/7 she's the best camping buddy and hiking companion I've ever had. She has an amazing nose in her too. Absolute best security system on the planet.

I have 7 acres and even there I never go far into woods by myself. Concerned about squatters..which my neighbor had a problem with.

My father was a police officer and we spent a lot of time out in the woods and National forests. He taught us to be situationally aware at all times. He rarely told us to be aware but taught us by example.He would make comments about tracks or show us something in the hiding in the bushes. My husband was the same way. They both would see things that I never did until pointed out. But I gave learned. I watch all around me and have all my life. We passed those skills on to our children and grandchildren the same way. Teaching without fear.

As a mom of two preteen daughters, I really love this video. I would love to see more content like this, how to be aware of your surroundings, what predators look for and how to increase your situational awareness. Big fan, sharing with other moms i know!

Darn right you need to be prepared. I got turned around in Uwharrie Forest in NC because my flashlight had my compass turned about 40°. I was in about 2 miles bow hunting. It ended up about 1am, so I decided to stay the night, build a small fire and head out first light. I had coyotes so absolutely close to me and possibly hogs. Anyhow, I carry a .22 pistol when bowhunting as you're allowed a "tracking gun". I had hunted out there many times, but things happen. Anyhow, stay safe y'all.

I'm building a ''cloak of invisibility'' JJ... ( a poncho actually...) it will hide the wearer from 3 different spectrums, visual, infrared, and thermal... a wearable hiding place, or ambush...

I feel so disconnected with most of the ''bipods''... anyway I'm glad I've made it to the last part and moat personal... I think you knew about the burner, you just wanted to see how much you sacrifice for the portability... and the ''peg trick'' very '' McGyver'' lol, the cup won't deform as long as it boils... but let it dry on the fire and is just a dirty old long cup any more...[even though titanium can take a lot of heat... it may survive! ]

My wife is SO NAIVE and doesn’t want to believe a lot of people have bad thoughts and intentions to hurt others.
Having been in the Marines, to PD, and now EMS, I’ve seen the worst of humanity in every position I’ve held. She refuses to believe it will only take a couple seconds and 20ft to being faced to face with death.
I don’t know how else to explain it to her or wake her up!

Hello Mr. Morris. A long day out on the property borderline but fun, especially when the twins slip and fall onto cow poo.! It's 11pm, just had late dinner and watched your vid. Thanks for the well wishes, the challenge will be an eye opener for us as we are camping separately. The twins got the dogs with them, under Mum's insistent. We all carry pepper spray and a couple of hunting boomerangs. It will be fun, increasing our senses and awareness. Dad made us some bushcraft knives for us to try out so we have a mission. Homemade lid for Grayl - either use alfoil or lid of any can, in an emergency we cut up piece of space blanket. In all our pack we carry 12"x12" aluminium foil. The twins are doing zzzzs on the lounge, time to hit the sack. Untill next vid, Fuel the Fires.!

I always try to stomp the ground and watch where I step.. Having a walking stick helps..
G'day JJ. Quite a different approach still a great vid with valuable information. Predator, prey & Grayman while taking us into the woods. We like it. Now with the Grayl, it is not encouraged to boil coffee, tea or food in it as that would reduce its effectiveness. We learned from experience. With the stove, it was design to boil water asap. Its slow performance may be contributed by using the "tall titanium" container & damped twigs.? Just an observation, no disrespect intended. It would help if there's a lid. Our girls (your groupies) are here, spending winter with us. Of course, fixing fences, tend to the animals like they do & giving their dad a hard time...! We love it. They will be doing a 3-day survival challenge separately. We don't get snow over here in the hills, but the temperature could get in the negatives. Not concern, just being a mother. They will also be field test their new knives that hubby made. They will definitely watch your vid after fixing fences etc. Stay safe. Fuel the Fires.!!
Thank you! Here’s my summation of the water boil- the stove, stakes and Grayl are all titanium. What I was performing was an “emergency” water boil. It certainly isn’t the primary method. I agree with you completely on that point. The problem is the titanium gives off heat so fast and the height of the small cylinder. Haven’t been able to find a lid yet either. No offense taken whatsoever- just wanted to explain what I was doing. Just wanted to test it to see the results. I agree with you 100% 👍🏻.. Glad to hear the girl’s are back home and wish them the best of luck for me on their challenge! Glad you liked the video 👊🏻

They certainly can do some damage
WMA and Corps property. I worked as a Ranger for a number of years with the Corps of Engineers before working the last couple of decades in LE. I love being in God's Cathedral reading the scriptures. If I'm hiking or camping, I love when nobody is around. I've freaked a few people out that didn't know I was around until I made my presence known. There are times when you wonder who may be watching you as well. Always remember your ABC's and use all your senses to stay alert to your surroundings.

Cool video! Ya know it really sucks that beautiful woodland areas that you covered have their secrets and some of those area would great for a solo camp night out. But you have to be aware.
I actually stopped camping and backpacking. Partly because my 4 legged companion was getting old, also because times are different. New companion is hyper aware at 7.5 months old.. she is a handful. Lol
Yea my cattle dog is getting up there so haven't been able to hike for too long without taking breaks. She's 10 now and getting a little chonky but she can still be a force of nature when she gets the zoomies.
You can see how easy it was for Lakin Riley was easy prey to her predator on the wooded area of the Georgia Campus.
So far where you are located in a different area of Georgia & you could have rushed anyone of those “unaware individuals”❕❕❕❕❕❕

You got it! The shirt is not torn- it’s a thumb hole.. It’s an actual fishing shirt with a hood so it’s perfect for bug/son protection and it dries super fast.. Mine is a Realtree but there are loads of good choices out there. Thanks for watching 👊🏻

Geographic obfuscation aside, I can confirm the 'be still and you are unlikely to be seen' part. I was once in the driveway of the subject of my investigation when they came outside at 0400. No concealment anywhere close so I stood still beside a lonely bush a bit taller than me,. The subject entered and started their vehicle (with headlights shining directly on me from 3 meters away) then proceeded to back out from their driveway and depart with no knowledge of my presence.
I was later accused of fabricating evidence because I "could not have been there" but the BWC and photos quickly dispelled that line.
The bush is or cam be dangeous especialy public areas

You have to be ACTIVELY searching, and if you're actively searching you're not walking fast, talking to your partner and definitely not jogging.
I even walked up on wild life.
Chances are you were within yards of others in the past and no clue.
Welcome to life.
You can, with training, actively search while performing the activities you mentioned.. I’m more than sure many people on here can testify to this here in the comments.. Situational awareness is a crucial skill and I dare say you’re promoting willful ignorance here..

Willful ignorance is definitely yours.
Actively searching and passively searching are two separate things.
People can train themselves to passively search, which is a process of looking around but unless something is in the open and of a color or shape that stands out will be missed.
Movement catches the eye, but a target that is motionless is more easily looked over.
If a person stands still (let's say) ten meters (30 feet) inside the tree line observing an open field, the visual is completely different.
The person in the woods can see through openings in the foliage and still has dead zones of brief limited to no visual contact because of the leaves, trees etc.
Being on the outside looking in the person is peering through, up to, three separate canopies, into a shaded or darkened area with no reflections off of surfaces and at a target motionless with dull colors.
(Obviously bright or neon colors catch the eyes better).
A person jogging would have to stop and actively search by a method of looking through the canopy, whereas passively searching would have scan the area looking for something out of place... movement or brighter colors.
He himself used passive searching/scanning by looking ahead (because he was concentrating more so on making the video) and seeing a white chair in the middle of an open path of greens and browns.
He then stopped and used active searching to see what else may have been there due to the oddity of the situation.
People hear loud or unusual noises, they will switch active searching.
30 years of service, half in scout and reconnaissance and trained in infiltration, and a quarter of my service being an instructor.
BUT per your accusation makes me somehow willfully ignorant.

I absolutely agree! The Solo stove is the best and worth the extra cost, weight and space it takes up. I have one of every size portable Solo stove. The smallest is not sufficient and tough to keep from smoking due to how frequently you have to add fuel. It is difficult to keep the fuel inside, below the top edge. Once it gets above the top holes, it tends to smoke. Mastering the Solo stove of any size requires a bit of practice and knowing what woods burn cleanest, like oak. The mid-size is good for backpacking. I find the largest of the portable Solo stoves to be most efficient and smoke free, but it is big for backpacking. I did take it winter camping with a cart. I'm not talking about the patio version, though I imagine it would be great for that.
You’re right on the “mastering” the solo stove thing.. It does require a knowledge of the fuel sources. I find I can boil water in under 5 minutes and to keep the smoke factor down I have to keep feeding it. That being said, it is far superior to anything else I have tested on the market.
