I have been trying to remember the name of this for ages. We rented it on VHS at least 5 or 6n times but the last time I saw it was sometime in the mid 90s. It is one of those movies that are far better than they should possibly be.
I was also trying to remember the name of this; I forget where I saw it in the first place. I googled "Human slaves forced to mine by robots in space" and it came up. LOL!
Favorite line? I think when Dag was asking Arthur where the personality circuits were in the government issued fem bot. "They are located at... you are definately looking in the wrong place." LOL!
I used to love this movie as a kid. I watched the hell out of my old VHS tape back in the day. I'm glad I saw this because I'm gonna go put and buy a DVD copy for my collection since I was reminded of this underrated animated classic.
^I see I'm not the only one hit by that troll pretending to be part of the content creator. You have any idea who or what that is? Is it an actual troll, a bot, some scamming operation, or even a combo of those?
One of my all-time, go-to films for just a fun watch. The barely-there world building is actually a plus because it allows the watcher to fill in the backstory (absurd as it is).
"Up is Hell, Never dig up", a line that I have used to this day. I saw it in a revival theater in the '90's in 3D, but first saw it in the '80's when I worked in a video store. I fully enjoy it and have it on DVD in my personal library.
I saw this on Flix channel few years ago, and wondered what it was, but it looked familiar. I then remembered seeing the trailer for it as a young teen, but never seeing the movie til then. I bought the DVD at Best Buy when I saw it on shelves.
I still love this movie, and watch I at least once or twice a year. It was also a joy to introduce it to my wee boy, and watch it together. The soundtrack and the Starchaser theme is one of all time favourite Hero fanfares.
I remember seeing this movie on cable back then. The last time I saw it, also on cable, was about 14 years ago. I found it here on UA-cam so I think I'll watch it again.
Such a fun animated movie that had me fascinated with the ship's personality and its smooth computer animation flight. Watched it on VHS until too grainy to view anymore, lol. … I’ll need to look it up again. Thanks for the reminder.
I remember watching this as a kid in the '80s. Can't remember if it was on Cable TV, or if we kept renting it at the video store (Back when VCRs we're the size of suitcases)... Main scene I always remembered was the repair of the Fembot, and the location of Personality Chips...
why is Silica's relationship with Dag so disturbing? I always loved how devoted she was to him after he reprogrammed her. Even at 9 years old, I thought that was hot.
I watched this as a kid about 6 and it terrified me, especially the mandroids. I rewatched last week (I am now over 40), the concept of mandroids still terrifies me and seems more plausible than ever, furthermore the themes of AI take-over, pleasure-robots, slavery and mining raw resources (cobalt and lithium anyone?) and authoritarian states appear more relevant now than the 80/90’s. Nice review 👍
ok when i was a kid like a baby idk 7 or 8 we had a tape with rosy and jim on it but at the end was this film mom and dad never knew about it we loved it
I like your channel every entertainment wether good or bad.....u bring them back which people forgot or are not appreciated...it's rare to get good channels like marvelous video all good entertainment ✌️❤️
Man I miss this style of animation. I prefer hand drawn over computer animated films to be honest. No lies told, this is better than the current Star Wars.
Except for the "movie poster", I never really saw this movie as a Star Wars ripoff. I did notice some connecting themes when I watched it, just like I saw connecting themes to lots of other stories when watching Star Wars, but that was it. Despite my loving Star Wars, I loved the Starchaser universe more... and that whole sword being bonded to that person via being the hero was totally awesome. I could go on, but let's just say that Starchaser and animations like it are pretty much underrated lost gems, as are the techniques of their creation... the modern CGI push as an "art" is bland and soulless as are most modern movies, actual retelling/rebooting of everything that already existed... over and over again.
The whips that the mine droids are using looks a lot like the lightwhips that were later introduced in the Star Wars Expanded Universe. The Man-Droids also looks like some half-organic cyborgs in the Clone Wars. On the planet where Savage Opress finds Maul.
This is an odd remark, but THIS I found years back when i was looking for 3D movies. I found this movie and when I began reading the comments several people were saying that their CHURCH was showing this movie to their Pre-teens/Teens BECAUSE these fundamentalist religious groups didn't want their teens watching "Heavy Metal" with its female nudity and sex. Plus this movie was about a young man who used divine methods to defeat an underground lord of evil who was dressed in red, who were keeping humans captive... Sound familiar? (Dana Carvey as Church Lady) Could it be... SATAN?!
The only problem I have was watching this great movie now is that my LCS 3D system only worked on tube televisions and so I have to watch it flat now...
And then, some ciclic reverse ripoff: The ship is an IA like the Millenium Falcon The mandroids are General Grievious The sword cutting doors like in Phantom Menace The 2 heroes getting in tanks to get in the Flagship The healing power as Ray The robot of the princess like the android in Rogue One The escape from the mine like Andor’s escape from prison.
It looked like a series of flat planes in the theater when it was supposed to be 3-D. Still I thought it was a great movie! Yeah, it was dark. It killed off the girl early on, and that nixed it as a date movie, but my gf didn't mind it, so I guess it worked out well enough. Very underrated flick!
I think calling it a rip off is a harsh way to put it. More like heavily inspired by star wars but by the sounds of it they ended doing their own thing. The smuggler is definitely han and lando smashed together 🤣. Kinda reminds me of dragons lair as well with don bluth (probably got his name wrong) animation style with the brutality of the game over scenarios.

Dvd??

Me too!!!!
Parents took me to see this when I was 10. I'm 48 now, and I still love it!!! Fantastic story!!!
So cool!

An excellent cross of Gandahar, Lensman and Fire & ice.
Superb mix.
Had it on vhs 📼 and would watch it over and over again, so underrated

I remember this outstanding movie I still have it on VHS!🙂
Thank you for re-uploading the video in it's entirety (previous version final few minutes were cut).
I watched this in the 90s it took me years to find it and I I appreciated it. thanks for this.
Such an underrated movie
Loved this movie growing up what a blast from the past
Thank You !!!! I Love This Movie Ever Since I saw it on THIS TV in 2011 best free premium channel back in the 2010's
It is also a good animated version of Plato's aligory of the cave for anybody who some knowledge of philosophy 😉
Can't choose a favorite scene, I like all 100 minutes of this hidden gem of a movie. Been watching it for years.
I watched this film religiously in the late 80’s, hadn’t watched it since until last week… still knew it word for word
I remember this movie.

Adding to my mushroom trip movie list
Very similar to Pirates of Dark Water as well.
Thanks for this video. I remember seeing this movie in the theater when I was a kid, but I couldn’t remember the name, or anything about it.

This show kicked ass.
Oh my god i have to buy this dvd now. What a cool concept for.a movie
I want to watch this now 😅

I film I enjoy watching when I came across it one day on cable TV.
Awesome gem of a movie!

I accidentally stumbled upon this, it reminds of Star Wars mixed with He-man.
The whips that the mine droids are using looks a lot like the lightwhips that were later introduced in the Star Wars Expanded Universe. The Man-Droids also looks like some half-organic cyborgs in the Clone Wars. On the planet where Savage Opress finds Maul.
awesome adventure

I was just thinking about space jesus healing the blind.
@@1q34w which did happen in this movie.
I remember an interview with the director, where he claimed they didn't use Rotoscope. If true, it's quite an achievement.
All influences all. Allular 🤯🙏⚡🤘

Good one
And then, some ciclic reverse ripoff:
The ship is an IA like the Millenium Falcon
The mandroids are General Grievious
The sword cutting doors like in Phantom Menace
The 2 heroes getting in tanks to get in the Flagship
The healing power as Ray
The robot of the princess like the android in Rogue One
The escape from the mine like Andor’s escape from prison.
I love it
UA-cam has both the 3D version and the non-3D version of this movie.
This was in 3d originally too
It looked like a series of flat planes in the theater when it was supposed to be 3-D.
Still I thought it was a great movie!
Yeah, it was dark. It killed off the girl early on, and that nixed it as a date movie, but my gf didn't mind it, so I guess it worked out well enough.
Very underrated flick!
To call it SW rip off was a little harsh. It did had some original ideas and since when did Han Solo own a C3po.

Same vibes as Tyga or TFilmation's Tarzan.
It stole from star wars and star wars stole from dune 😲 bunch of Hollywood theifs
You do have a point 🤔
Ma not even one black person
