It’s a cross between Star Wars, temple of doom and heavy metal. Loved this as a kid. Sad to see movies like this and rock and rule completely forgotten about.
Well I mean you gotta give us movie props for being one of if not the first animated movie do you have 3-D animation in it, and mix both 2-D and 3-D animation.
Watching this trailer just pretty much broke me! Me and my twin was obsessed with this movie for years! When I think of my childhood and the movies I grew up with, this one is right up there!
Seriously if I had never seen this movie before, this trailer would have me convinced that Starchaser is INSANELY awesome, like the kind of righteous cartoon that Star Wars deserved.
OMFG! This was one of the greaties mysteries of my childhood. This cartoon frightened me & fascinated at the same time, but didn't remember it's title... You're incredible!
Awesome work rebuilding this trailer. I always love when people work hard to save these bits of culture and history from disappearing. I absolutely LOVED this movie as a kid since I first saw it on VHS . I sadly missed the cinema release here in Australia, though I remember distinctly seeing cardboard standees and posters for this in McDonalds for some reason! I know some folks consider it a Star Wars ripoff but there are *much* bigger ripoffs of that movie than StarChaser (including The Force Awakens, now!) and I don't even care because this is so good. A fantastic adventure movie that stands up today; love the animation (it always reminded me of Fire and Ice) and the voice acting (Necron and Arthur are the two I always remember most). Powers Boothe gets as close to playing Han Solo as we'll ever get, and Silica is just awesome (I could listen to her and Arthur bicker all day). Not to mention, the villain's plan is actually legit decent for once! Standout little moments I can recall like yesterday: 1) Wait... she's dead?! Dark! 2) Don't bend down to pick up an invisible sword, idiot! (and watch your hump!) 3) They're in her... posterior? 4) Epic "U-turn", Dag! 5) Nooo! Not butler droid! I liked him! 5) The fall of Nexus. 7) I'd rather stick around for a bit in case there's a sequel, thanks. Definitely a film that I think would stand up for most kids today, and one that had a huge impact on me from the 80's. Oh, and don't forget that awesome score... pure epic-ness, especially the main/end title!
Great job putting this together. I love this movie and bought the DVD off amazon when I found it was available. I used to watch this on one of the premium movie channels whenever it would be on (The Movie Channel, I think, or maybe Showtime). Great, great animated film. Part Star Wars, part He-Man but original enough and just awesome.
I'm fairly certain this trailer featured at the start of the sell thru VHS Teen Wolf along with American Rabbit because Iw atched the trailer a lot. When I saw it I was amazed at the quality of animation. Shame the plot takes so many tropes from Starwars but it is still a great flick if you enjoy old animation. I also recommend Fire and Ice.
I saw this in the theater, and I fucking LOVED it! The 3-D effects were quite good. Hopefully, with the rise of 3-D TV's, they'll release a 3-D version on Blu-ray.
Well done on recreating the trailer, i had this on one of my Entertainment In Video movies (might have been House or House 2 - The Second Story). I know it would have been hard to recreate the final bit of the trailer with the Starchaser logo moving & getting smaller to eventually dissappear but really well done!!!
I got the DVD to this recently so I could watch it again after many, many years. I loved it! But I can't believe how similar it is to Star Wars, I'm surprised George Lucas didn't sue them or something lol
This looks surprisingly decent. I mean, sure, people are comparing this to Star Wars, but judging from the look of this trailer, I should definitely watch it some time online.
Iv been lookin for this for years. And came across it randomly. Its really good its a rip of of star wars with a ship like the one in firefly whats not to like
Fucking class movie, one of the best movies of the 80's, more of an adults film than a kids film as it's quite violent in places but thats whats makes it good, this is how cartoons should be made. Hope it gets released on dvd here in the u.k. soon.
I know it's cool to compare everything from the past favourably to contemporary stuff, but if you genuinely think this has better animation than modern movies you might need to get your eye's checked.
@RanaRandom I think its supposed to be set in the far future, which would make sense. It always bothered me that Star Wars was supposed to be set in the past and yet there were humans walking around (And they were referred to as humans BTW). Having this as the far future with humans having spread across the galaxy just makes much more sense
LOL first thing I though was that the narrator was Antony Hopkins.. XDDD Second thing I though was that the animation of that times was so fu**** amazing that I don´t have the words for describe it!!!! The animation is so fluid, almost real... Damn it!!! this kind of movies makes me wish to have born earlier... Good animation movies...
I saw the last half on TV a few weeks ago and the animation blew me and my sister away. What a relief it is to watch western animation again! I wasn't impressed by how fluid it was for a 1985 film -- I was impressed by how fluid it was, period. Nothing stays still! Japanese animators barely bother to make the speaking character's lips move, much less everything else in view. I wound up buying it to see the rest, and I'm glad I did. And yeah, it's a Star Wars knockoff, but who cares? It's great1
well im old enough to have seen the orignal in theaters. so starwars has a special place in my heart. of the prequils the third movie was the best of the lot.
Yeah it was on at least 5 videos, there were four versions of the trailer, a theatrical one which was short and emphasized the 3D and a longer one emphasizing how much it made at the box office and a shorter one (without the head laser) which was the original theatrical trailer.
When I saw this in the theater in 3D. I was 14. My friend had got stoned for the first time, and tried to tear of my 3d glasses, then freaked out and ran out of the place. Ha Ha.
No his names Orin, but his is (allegedly) the Kakahn, the only guy that can defeat the robots, who came once before and stopped Zygon from taking over before.
Is it this one or another kind of similar vein with a scene: Hero is in a dark, swampy area and there are some cyborg kind of characters with a whip. Sorry, remember the image as a 5 year old but can't place the movie. I know obscure and probably not right place to ask but I can't place it and the thought bugs me. Never got to see the film cause the tape we had was screwed beyond any recognition but could see that scene. Sorry, if there is someone that could help thanks in advance.
@RickyRider35 This is not like Starwars. The story is very different when you look into it deeper. Anyways Starwars is just a retelling of things such as the Arthurian legends etc ;)
@trailersic ...Anime - got, not seen. Wizards & Fire And Ice I don't rate as highly as Bakshi's earlier work because there weren't as interesting and unique in my eyes as Heavy Traffic, Coonskin & Hey Good Lookin'. Ninja Scroll I think I watched but not sure. Golgo 13 & urotsukidoji I always wanted to see when I was about 13 in 93, but never got round to. Fist of the Northstar was a bit silly with the heads exploding everywhere. Mononoke, good film. South Park had the tv show to back it up...
I wasn’t born I til ‘92 and never saw it as a child. Saw a review for it and watched the movie. I didn’t think it was that bad. Not great, but I did enjoy it. That said, they’re overselling it just a bit….
@jeangreyfan 'He' was referring to Pirates of Dark Water I just guessed that was what he was talking about. I think you got us back to front. BTW I have never watched an episode of Pirates of Dark Water.
Actually the philosophical and mythological premise in the mystical aspects of the films are different, one is more zen and the other far more Tao. Lucus took whole characters and events from some of those samurai films. Not to mention that star wars is essentially a cut-down cheapo version of E.E. "Doc" Smith's epic Lensman series, Lucus did all he could afford to but in the end it just wasnt possible to afford special effects as epic as those novels.
by all I mean Star Wars IV, V VI, Starchaser & Transformers The Movie of course. Btw if you want to see something TRULY ripping off a plot wholesale, watch Die Hard, then watch Assault on Dome 4 or possibly Project Shadowchaser
Hi everyone, I've been looking for an animated film/episode (think it's a film) that looked a bit like the start of this trailer, it's about a guy like this guy and he-man sort of thing, the only other thing I can remember is that he ends up in a cave and leeches suck his blood and he becomes weak. I have been hunting for years and years, if anyone has any suggestions PLEASE let me know!!
It’s a cross between Star Wars, temple of doom and heavy metal. Loved this as a kid. Sad to see movies like this and rock and rule completely forgotten about.
Headcanon Heavy Metal.
Behold The Good Loc-Nar!

Until we show our kids and everyone they are friends.with thinks they are making it up XD
Holy cow, the people who made this was high on a cocktail of spice and midiclorians 😅
I used to rent this every week back in the 80's. I loved it. I now have the DVD and was quite surprised by how adult it was. Great film!
I did too!! The DVD is on my buy list! Soon I will own it!!
Now this Starchaser the legend of orin is a cross between Star Wars & Heavy Metal!
Perfect Description.

I watched this on VHS as an 8 year old. Good times growing up...
I saw this in 3D in theaters. I'm 45 and this is such a trip seeing this here.
Me too! It was pretty good 3d.
I’m the same age as you and I don’t remember ever seeing anything about it before today.
Man, if I knew about this movie when I was a kid I would have sold my kidney to see it. Born in 1983, first time seeing the trailer - 2015.
I was just thinking the same, except I was born in 1979 and now it's 2019
Born in 83 as well... my grandad bought it on vhs for me as a kid and I watched it for the first time yesterday in god knows 20 years!
Still love it!

from a time

of epic and awesome
This is the first time I've ever even seen it I'm going to have to watch it now.. Anyone ever see one called Fire and Ice
Fire and ice is the shit!! They don’t make kick ass toons like that anymore.

I remember this movie as a small child, brings back memories.
Maybe THIS is how a Buzz Lightyear movie should be made.
Fire ass trailer
I remember a lot of cartoon movies coming out in the 80s
I like the fluidity of the animations. They did not cheap out the frames per second like a lot others are doing and were doing.
I remember watching this movie when it first came out. I had forgotten the title so long ago.
"You have the crystals?"
"You have the moneeeey?"
Saw this for the first time last week, It was way better than I expected, surprised its not more well known.
Yeah, and in the original 3-D it's even better!
my favourtie movie seen this hundreds of times loved it and can pretty much recite it word for word awesome!

Wow, that's some pretty extensive work you did to recreate this. Nice.
Great work! Thanks for doing this :D
This seems like a cross of Star Wars, Battle Beyond the Stars and a Ralph Bakshi film.
Not to be confused with a Ralph Macchio film... "The two youts".
