You always school me on what's good, and great out of the UK and Ireland ! The men in the 3 piece suits really filtered what we were going to listen to on the airwaves back in the late 1970's and on ! You either had to live in NYC or LA.. or work in a record store to be on top of the terrific bands that you know and love through the years ! Elbow is fantastic.. I have several of theirs and discovered them around 2001 or so.
Hi John sometimes people in the uk forget that a lot of uk music didn’t make it onto American radio and before the days of streaming that effected what you could listen to . So many Americans seems unaware of elbow thankfully you’re not one of them John.. thanks for watching and commenting 👍

Hi Rob. There were a few good bands from Manchester in the 60s. Definitely the Hollies, and I suppose you could include the Bee Gees even though they started off in Australia. Can't argue with Buzzcocks, and New Order. It would be good if Berwickshire Mike, Mike Vinyl Spiral and Vinyl Ritchie follow your lead and show bands from their neck of the woods.

Top video as usual Rob but it is funny how the Manchester bands of the 1960's who were the most successful from the city not only in the UK but also in the USA seem to have been passed over generally. Of course we can prefer others as you mention but here is a shout out for The Hollies, Herman's Hermits, Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders and their offshoot 10cc amongst others. .These bands had record sales that the 1970's bands could only dream of. PS I have omitted Freddie and the Dreamers who were also big sellers in the USA on the grounds of good taste.

I’m aware that Manchester was well represented in the singles chart in the uk and I’m sure Herman’s hermits were pretty successful in America . Thanks Rob. Herman's Hermits actually outsold the Beatles in America in the 60's . PS One band I failed to mention was The Bee Gees who grew up in Manchester before moving to Australia. Not my thing but we can surely claim them as Mancs. Keep it coming.

I saw Morrissey last Saturday at Portsmouth Guildhall. He was really good and opened with a hairs on the back of your neck start…….How Soon Is Now. It was very emotional, absolutely fantastic. I thought meat is murder was most ones go on about or is that just vegan fans favourite 🍔🌭? I'm not complaining as I have hatful. Buzzcocks I caught for free in some London park about 15-20 years ago. They were weirdly gonna play in Aylesbury this year but the place closed down (badly run IMO) Morrissey is due to play Aylesbury theatre (chain) but I'm not going it's around £75 😮 I thought Happy Mondays were more a 12" remixes kinda band maybe just me. Dunno how much of 24 hour party people was representative of them. Nothing in 50/60s Manchester? I think I need to further investigate that, can't all have been George Formby and Arthur Atkinson where's my washboard up until say The Hollies. Didn't know about the roundabout guess that's local knowledge.
Another thread idea there, 'Bands I might have been in cus of band members who lived nearby' (but don't do it or if you do don't reference me ; ). I cant do this one as I had switched off for about three decades but a nice idea, cheers 👍
