THANK you!! I hate mysteries. I live in the city where corn comes in cans and boxes and farm life and the technology that feeds our nation is taken for granted. Your farm videos and those from your colleagues have become a recent interest for me. But those damn combines were a sheet metal mystery until this video. Now I have a rough idea. Technical detail fascinates me. I'll be looking forward to videos of the workings of your grain storage, planting equipment, etc.
Too bad there isn't some practical way to duct the combine's engine heat up the elevator conveyer and through the hopper to start the drying process. More complication, I suppose; more stuff to go wrong.

As others said, this is a great explanation of all of the functions of the combine. Also, in this setting the word 'combine' means exactly what a dictionary definition for it would be. Combine definition: "A power-operated harvesting machine that cuts, threshes, and cleans grain." A combine as a noun is the machine. Combine as a verb means combining all of the functions of handling grains with one machine. I'm sure everyone already knew what I just said but I just realized the true reason for calling it the 'combine.' Sometimes 'old dogs learn new tricks!'

This was the clearest explanation of how a combine works I have ever seen. Some questions, you use the term "grain" and "kernels". Is grain corn on the cob? Are the cobs sent/chopped and thrown away? How dry does the corn need to be to separate properly? Can grain be too dry? Can the stalks and cobs be used as feed for cows?
