I get what Slott wanted with Alpha: Max power and max ego. The problem is this archetype is so common and Slott gave him no depth or character journey.
Is this character and story not just a big joke? His name is just two of the actors who played spider man, he has a cookie cutter backstory and letting power rush to his head trope, he also gets defeated by alien tech that just conveniently comes into the story when they need it. I seriously don’t think this character was meant to be taken seriously
The way I think this story should have been was all about Peter projecting his view on Alpha, seeing any minor mistake the kid makes equal to the huge mess ups he made as a teen hero. Peter than takes away Alpha's power only to realize that he was wrong but it's too late to fix things. This would serve well with Slott's theme of Peter being incompetent.
Infinite potential as a reason for being omega level is by far the most simplest concept to mess up in comics. as seen with alpha here just because you can be all powerful doesn't mean you'll have the personality to make you worthy of it. i understand what slott wanted with this character, that being a relatable upper limit for the audience to look at and say they're the strongest. I can understand considering characters like Franklin Richards and Matthew Malloy are this concept done right, but as someone who read his story line and can definitely say it was bad I honestly believe this character is better left forgotten.
To everyone in the comments A big reason why Alpha was perceived as a threat in the end was because when he was fighting Terminus he was flying AND using energy blasts, showing that he could use two of his abilities at the same time. I believe his powers were growing much faster than the other heroes had anticipated and they were afraid of what he could become so they depowered him.
Powers attached to the expansion of the universe are crazy strong, but I dont see how that could trump the Phoenix Force which is the power of all life collectively in the multiverse. We know universes end in Marvel, but the multiverse, generally, lives on forever.
Because there's different versions of the Phoenix Force in each universe (like the 1610 Phoenix Force), each of them is on a Universal Level. While the Phoenix Force you're thinking about is the TRUE Phoenix Force that reside outside of the entire multiverse, making it a Outerversal Level. It's similar to Multi-Eternity, who has multiple versions of Eternity in each universe. But understand that Universal level can sometimes mean Multiversal level since each universe in Marvel is larger than our IRL universe, especially with all the multiple dimensions like the Afterlife (Heaven, Hell and Death's realm), the Microverse and the Nine Realms (where each of them are considered universes).
Well... there're theories about the expansion of the universe... and if Alpha wants max power, he can decrease the density of matter in the universe until it reaches the point in which a Big Rip is inevitable as the end of the universe... If he manages to do that, he can easily trump over the Phoenix Force because he would be able to basically isolate each particle The Phoenix force can interact with, with him being the only one unaffected because he's directly tied to the Parker Particles, thus making the Phoenix Force irrelevant.

I personally like the development of his character, this is a prime example of what would happen if a kid had superpowers and chose to use it poorly. like the video where it talks about the rise and fall about a UA-camr
Maybe theyll play him like the sentry. where when they are up against a corner, they call alpha and ask him to play god, and give him 100% of his power.
Would be cool to see him transported to some alternate dimension/realm where he has to constantly fight and unlock alot of his potential, but also learn some humility and being an overall better person.
hey man, you're like the only guy I learn comics from and my roommate knows a lot, been subbed to you for a while now, I'd really like to know about duplication powers if that's okay, do you have any video recommendations that you already have?

Its actually the other way round, Alpha is an alpha-level threat and he will grow into a omega-level threat but I doubt he ever was omega level as he lost his powers before they reached that point.
His power is connected to HIS universe even if it continuously expands it’s still just the power of One universe while the Phoenix force is the conglomerate of all psychic power across infinite realities so how would he be stronger at any point in time ever?
I think it said in the comic he was more powerful than The Phoenix but not the Phoenix Force. I don't think he said it in the video, and I could very well be wrong.

Behold: Generic Man! with the power to let Dan Slott go home at 500 when the editor tells him to come up with a new character at 445. He comes with generic powers, a generic story for ripped off the character whose book they appear in, the most generic story arc for how powers give you an ego, and all the tell don't show that you'd get from a 3rd grader describing their OC. I mean, I realize that the joke is supposed to be that he's basic AF but that's not a very good joke.
Generic man’s greatest ability is to fill the space in the back of a panel. If you want to find him find the omega level threat and look beyond it he’ll be back there either running or pointing.
Great video. As someone is is largely unfamiliar with Marvel comics, I have a hyperthetical for you Rob. What would happen to the Marvel multiverse if The Beyonder came into contact with the Phoenix Force, and it chose him to be their human avatar?
It's tell don't show at its worst. People in the universe who are supposed to be authorities declare him to be awesome but there is no evidence at all that he actually is. Then, everyone else needs to fail in embarrassing ways just to make a token effort of illustrating that he's stronger than everyone else.
@@o76923 Exactly this the character does nothing that impressive but characters who know power houses or are power houses, just happen to be too weak or too dense to solve the problem without Alpha.
Beyond Omega Level: The Plutonian from Irredeemable. I really liked that comics take on what might happen when a superhero can’t save everyone and makes one mistake. Also, Netflix is developing a series on it so I imagine we may see you cover it anyway :)
I think Alpha would be a great one, but they need to write more before bringing him in, they need to give him enough notoriety so they can use the MCU storyline effectively, my only concern is that he might be too unknown. His powers being relatively unknown would actually be a benefit to the MCU
Just like his powers, his story has an infinite potential Because of how basic and short his story was they can do literally anything to him they just gotta do it right Example: Speedball
Unironically, I feel like this character could make for a really good children's Marvel movie. A movie specifically for younger audiences that fully utilizes the loud attitude and social media obsession that this generation is stereotypically defined by to tell a realistic, messy coming of age story. Kinda like Turning Red, but if it was set at a point in time that made sense. It would give them the opportunity to flesh out Alpha's character more, tell a story about the younger generation's culture that doesn't inherently mock it, and make a fair bit of money off the enormous kids film market while doing so.
In my opinion he’s gonna become something like CAS. Someone who’s just so overpowered the only time they actually show up in a story and do anything meaningful is when the writers make something or someone too strong for the heroes.
He sounds like a hero/villain that a high schooler would think of. With as much depth as an elementary school writer could come up with. I. Am. Not. Impressed.
