Good. There is a time to dance. I joke but it is true. If I were to go tomorrow leep, dance, and celebrate but not weep and regret. At best you were here to see a portion of my life.
1:27 Lithgow is so good in this movie. His tiny smile where you can see he’s starting to change his mind. He really put a lot of soul into this part that could have been a one-note “villain” character
It looks to me like Lori (Ariel) is really touched by his speech and not just acting . All the characters are perfectly fitting .that's what makes it such a wonderful film. ❤️
I'm only 44 and the highschool I went to had a dance every Friday night after the football game but they took them away years ago. It was just a DJ and we would hang out with all our friends and yea I admit we raised a little hell but we had fun and I'm sure the people around my age look back at the fun we had. Now the kids just sit in front of a screen constantly. I feel so bad for this generation. We played ball and actually did shit. Kids that are 18 ish now don't care about anything except having a screen in front of them
Yep...Public speaking is one of most peoples' biggest fears, let alone in front of authority figures...probably the last position Ren wanted to be in, especially being a radical newbie in town, but when you're in the right, you gotta make yourself heard...even when the establishment won't listen...
This scene is so great...... it really exemplifies two "sides of the aisle" coming to a sort of mutual understanding...... Ren understands that the preacher lost his son in a horrible accident and understandable agonizes that the type of accident he died in may happen again and his heart is in the right place... however Ren also understands that everything has its "time and place" even in the bible. eventually the reverend comes around although admittedly not 100% comfortable and understands that the town needs to start trusting its young people otherwise it has detriment on the rest of their lives .......... also I absolutely love the moment at 1:28 right after Ren quotes "praise his name in the dance" ~ the reverend for a split second almost gives a type of "respectful smile" type of a grin and one can tell that Ren has touched something in his soul in that moment.
How would the town council feel if word spread across the country to stay away their town because it's against the law to dance, which is such a stupid law due to the reverend's influence, which he claimed dancing is a sin, which never was at all.
It's a good movie, but the premise is so flawed. Like, you could end this movie in 5 minutes with a call to the KC chapter of the ACLU. Banning dancing? Feels like a major 1st Amendment violation.
I remember my lutheran high school wouldnt allow dances in the 80's calling it adiaphora. so we had to have them at the YMCA. what a joke. now look at the world . whos adiaphora now huh?
The bible is offensive if you have morality and empathy. No sir we live in a progressive modern world full of wonderful things like human rights, medicine and science. There’s just a few people left like you who want to cling to the evils of the past.
Religion DOESN'T BELONG IN GOVERNMENT DECIDING MY LIFE FOR ME. 9TH AMENDMENT. STAY IN YOUR OWN FUCKING LANE. OFFEND?!?! BRO, ITS MIDDLE EAST PROPOGANDA IN A NATION THAT WANTED EACH INDIVIDUAL TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IT TAKES TO BE FREE. ...pft "offended". Yeah, cuz no one knew how EVIL CORPORATE CHURCH GOVERNMENT ACTUALLY IS.
Kevin Bacon hasn't always been in great movies, but he was always great in the movies he was in.
I was at a funeral today and almost lost it when the preacher started reading from ecclesiastes and realised the line about a time to dance.

Voir Kévin bacon jeune
When you are ever confronted by authority.....always....ALWAYS use what is already written.....bible, bylaws, laws, code, etc....
Ahhhhhh.....that electric guitar in the right moments in the whole movie......God it brings back some feelings
100% pure 80's cinema right there!
My favorite scene from the film.
Brilliantly written and performed
This is my second favourite scene. My first favourite will always be the one where he dances on his own.
One of the best scenes/speeches in all of film history. Amazing.
Agree
I wish there was a guitar riff every time I say something wildly true
Amen.💯
Our way of celebrating life…amen!

Agree 100%
Being really touched by a real moment is great acting. Great acting is genuinely experiencing an emotion and being willing to share it.
Amazing scene, the acting is so tight.....just incredible......
Tell it like it is Kevin bacon 😂
Greatest speech ever Bought to life
I am assuming you mean...."brought"
It's great when Ren uses there weapons against the council.

Ren showed so much courage going before the town council to end the law against dancing.

By the look on the priest's face, he knows nothing of the Bible and all that God has to say on every matter. He was ignorant...

Where are the subtitles. Why did you remove subtitles.
I liked this movie

A plot of a movie is a town has outlawed dancing? Don’t think even the nazis outlawed dancing.

Back when quoting the Hebrew Bible and New Testament didn't offend everyone. What a fallen and evil world we live in now!
