I just added walnut veneer to my toms last week. I glued in the veneer and had a bunch of cheap 99 cent store claps holding it into place. Then seen my colman air mattress on the floor, Light bulb idea! Stuck it inside and blew it up with my compressor, worked great!!! Great video!
Drum shells typically measure 1/8 in less than advertised. So a “14 drum should be 13 and 7/8 inches when finished, therefore the inner dimensions of his mold should be 13 7/8 inch.
How are you calculating what length each ply needs to be as you seem to have each plies ends butted together inside your former, I'm guessing the length is absolutely critical?
Hi. The sheets are 1mm thick, I buy them locally at a workshop that usually deals with furniture manufacturers. The specific sheets I bought are B-Stock and are usually quite warped and/or have holes in them. I cut them with a box cutter or a big guillotine paper cutter.
Hi, I am in Ireland and am finding it very hard to find anywhere that will supply 1mm veneer, everything is .6mm. Do you know of any European supplier that will ship?? Or alternatively, will multiple layers of .6mm veneer end up sounding ok? What do you think??
I use leftover veneer from a local supplier and wood glue. the cylinder is made of aluminium and was manufactured by a local plumber. It helps to have pressured air to blow up the ball in the cylinder. thats about it 👍🏽
It is done using steam bending and produces a beautiful shell with nice acoustic properties. Warmer than a stave shell and more lively than a laminate shell. There was a technology being tried a few years ago that used high pressure along the axis of the lignIn bonds in the wood. The resultant breakdown of the molecular bond made the wood easily bent by hand. I seem to recall that John Good of DW drums had bought the technology for development but don’t know what ended up with it.

Where can I find the tube to put the wood in?
Snazzy! What material and thickness did you sue to create your mould? Looks great!
Nice video and great you answered here so much!
Very interesting! Thanks for the behind the scenes look!
that exercise ball idea is genius!
Spanasyuk Wasnt my idea, but thanks 😄 You find this technique all over yt.
This is crazy awesome. If it’s not a bother what is the diameter of the aluminum cylinder thing that acts as the press??
Dont know it by heart, but its inner diameter matches the outer diameter of a 14" Keller shell.

Bro, try doing drum shells using cardboard and epoxy, use the same vacuum process they use for manufacturing carbon fiber parts.
Can you please say the height size?
The finished shell was a 14"x08".
Hi good day Could you help me by telling me where I can get wood that thin? for the same purpose. thanks.
I bought the veneer from a workshop that usually deals with furniture makers. maybe there's something like that near you?

We first cut the veneer pieces to the approximate length and then become more precise during the manufacturing process.
@@bangdrums ah OK like maybe you test fit them, mark the overlap then cut that off?
@@hydorah thats it. its that easy!
@@bangdrums could you do custom work with custom veneers
@@isaacbaker64 this IS custom work with custom veneer 😄
hello...How many millimeters thick is each sheet and where do you buy it? o How did you cut each sheet?

@@bangdrums can i use plywood instead?
@@ramenexe no, but the end product should look like (bent) plywood.
How did you do the moulding?
the mould was done by a local plumber.
What material was it made of and may I ask how much they charged? Thanks!
So what does the plumber call what he made that out of and does it come in different sizes?
The material he used is called Alu dibond. Different sizes are of course possible.
Could you make a solid single piece drum? No staves, no plys’?
Oh yes please.

Nice, I thought it was much harder.
0:20 wow what kind of laminated wood and how thick is it? I look amazing bro!
Its walnut, about 0.7 mm thick.
Interesting video. "Music?" Sucks
