- Hello! I made some shawls: a couple for myself and a couple for gifts. I wanted to share the process since it is so, so easy. It also makes a very versatile, all-season gift for any linen lover in your life--maybe one of the most used gifts I have ever received!
I purchased my fabric from fabrics-store.com, and used their free shawl instructions that they send out to their email list.
This is NOT a sponsored video and all opinions expressed are my own.
Thank you for being here and I appreciate your time on my channel today! -Cleo 💜

I love this and it is a great gift idea. I think it would also be great to include some pulled thread embroidery into the project. It is hand sewing, but is quick if you use a simple pattern.
Thanks for your note! 💜 I love the idea of added embroidery. That particular skill set is something that’s been on my list-I’ll check it out! 😊
Honestly my new favourite sewist!
Aww, thank you for your kind words and support! ✨💜
I love linen and have never thought to create a scarf, thankyou for that . Yours scarves are beautiful.
My pleasure and thank *you*!
These would make such lovely gifts! Do you have any favorite or go-to sources for linen? Thank you for the tutorial!
Yes, I generally buy from fabrics-store.com. They occasionally have sales and discount codes so it can be worth signing up for their mailing list! 💜✨
Thank you! I’ll check them out.
so talented!! i know that my mom would love one for christmas!! thanks Cleo!
My pleasure and thank you for your sweet message! ☺️
I love all your linen garments and the scarves are gorgeous. My experience with linen has been somewhat negative, i.e. scratchy.
It's unfair to judge the fabric/fibre on my limited experience, so I will seek advice and try again as I love the look.
Thank you for your excellent videos.🌷
Thanks so much for your note and kind words! And yes, definitely keep browsing linen sources and check reviews. Linen can be amazing! 💜
Wash it more often. Every wash softens the linen a little more. Linen is actually the only fabric (so I hear) that gets stronger when it is wet, rather than weaker. Washing it is not bad for it, it will make it softer and smoother and the thing will last for decades.
Very Very thanx... Mam
Most welcome 😊
What is the reason you cut the selvage off before sewing? I know it doesn't hang the same, the selvage is usually a tighter weave and I can tell that it doesn't move quite the same as it would if the selvage was cut off, but is that the only effect? Is there any long term changes that show the difference between 1) a scarf that has only raw edges stitched into rolled hems and 2) a scarf that has the selvage stitched into a rolled hem? Do you have experience or knowledge regarding this?
Such a fantastic question! You are 100% right on here--there is no other reason to cut it off other than if you do, or don't, like the look of selvage down one side. I have a linen scarf with, and one without, selvage. Unless someone in the know was looking for it, it all gets blended up in the wrap of the scarf and is not a visible issue at all. In terms of washing/wearing longer term, on this fabric, the selvage does look a little more rustic. But again, in the grand scheme of things, just blends right in. 😁
@@cleow thank you for your reply. I may be about to embark on a business venture where I sell blank linen scarves to an artisan who dyes them with plants, and I want to be able to offer her the best product I can make. I appreciate your feedback, thank you~
@@xinalorreen2031 of course, happy to help, and how exciting! Best of luck on your future project!
