FUN FACT(ISH): Around the time that gen 6 came out, a friend and I spent an entire night doing math in response to a post that said "I don't care if we get to gen 15 and have 27,000 Pokemon, I'll keep playing!"
We figured out figured out how many generations it would take before we reached 27k Pokemon (if things continued at the current rate of expansion), and I forget what the number was. I remember it have an 8 in it. 38? 58? I don't remember. It was a decade ago.
So gen 30 would definitely have much more than 3000 Pokemon.
even on gen 5 the overall number is in a downward trend, in fact, if you used it (which is the second highest point of the series) and set the downward trend to have gen 8 as the minimum, which only gets the bronze medal in how low it got of the pokemon games, you still get a value lower than 3000 by gen 30
and no it wasn't 58, 58*156 the highest number in the series by far is only 9000, it's not even close to close

i know we didnt use any downward trends. im pretty sure we averaged all the additions together, and used that.
it seems like we also included different forms as if they were separate pokemon. mega evolutions, stuff like shaymin's sky form, etc.

The funny thing is, one of the main reasons as to why people are always up in arms about national dex is actually what she says right after this. Every person has a different favorite Pokémon and everyone wants THEIR favorite in every game and to be able to transfer it from the previous games to continue their journey together so they all say "Please put ____ Pokémon in the game" with ____ being a different name each time.
100000% I feel the same way yet haven't been able to put it into words, but you put this perfectly. I feel it's a disservice to the fans to have an arbitrary number of mons available in the game when the franchise was built on the idea of being able to collect them all. Obviously, I don't think every pokemon should be catchable in every region, but they should be transferrable.
Right! I used to be part of the #BringBackNationalDex hashtag, and though I've come to appreciate Gen 8 in its own right, the biggest issue was that every Pokemon is someone's favorite, and not being able to catch them is one thing... But them not being coded into the game is another thing entirely. (Especially since they wasted space on things like separate models just for dynamaxing...)
Which is dumb. They'll never improve the models at that rate.
@@JayceCH. They lifted the SWISH models from SUMO, so... I think the problem isn't the Pokemon, but that Game Freak just sucks at coding and so there's a lot of unnecessary junk in the way.

I actually heard someone say that BDSP and PLA were delayed because of Covid. Which means PLA would've been released in November and BDSP most likely in the summer. That does make a lot of sense

I saw Mandjtv say something similar. It would've made sense for BDSP to come out in 2020, after all the Sword & Shield DLC had been released, then maybe Legends Arceus last year, leaving 2022, the 25th anniversary year, to be the start of a new gen, much like how Gen 7 started in the 20th anniversary year. I get that 2021 makes more sense for BDSP to come out (being the 15th anniversary of the release of Diamond & Pearl) though.

Yanma and eventually Yanmega are actually on my team in Pokemon Legends Arceus because in my constant (and on going) hunt for Shiny Goomy (yes I failed once, because it ran from the battle) there was always a Yanma that would fly around me an try and be my friend. And low and behold 2 shinies after my Failed Goomy, a Shiny Yanma joined me to keep me company. I love her so much

I’m really stuck between Sprigatito and Fuecoco. I might need to warm up to Quaxly, but coming up with names might help. I’m really tempted to name Quaxly “Soda,” because I misread another comment here about someone naming their character Sora, so I took “Soda” for Quaxly and ran with it.
This might be the first generation where the starters’ evolutions could sway me. (Normally, I just pick one and don’t care what it evolves into. I’d still be Team Sobble even if I didn’t like Inteleon, for example.)
Edit: I came up with a name for Fuecoco! They’re going to be named “Jalapeño!”

Same, a lot of people don’t like sun and moon because it holds your hand too much. But I find it comforting. I never feel alone. And I’m able to like the characters more. The rivals to me have always seemed bland and I never cared for them. But I really like hau. (Is that how you spell his name?) mostly because he seems to only have one brain cell and he really likes malasadas and when I was younger I lived in Hawaii. And sun and moon are Hawaii based regions. I was gonna pick Sprigatito...But I saw NSFW of it and now I’m traumatized. Also I see first staged starters as children so that made it worst. So I’m going to pick fuencoco. Or Quaxly if it evolves into a pirate duck.

@@nobodycares607 The wild area in general looks pretty bad, but I'm guessing that's because the online multiplayer in the wild area already lags like shit, and I can't imagine how much worse it would be if the area actually looked good.
Though I only really ever used it to get Spiritomb in the Crown Tundra, so... I will not be complaining if it's absent in the new games.
The tree that literally looks worse than the OoT tree? That's far from the only graphical or animation complaint.

they are called that because no one wants a freaking starter as a rat or a dog. i don't have to explain the rat thing because yuck, but dogs are just too basic to be a starter. a wolf maybe, but what kind of fire wolfs are there in anything? i guess there's some type of fire wolf in japanese folklore but it's just weird. a fox is still a canine so and it's unique enough to be a starter :)
Never understood what people have agianst rats, besides its pokemon so if people are willing and happy to have a spider pokemon I see no reason why a rat wouldn't work. Also a dog being too "basic" and a cat not is a crap reason. The zodiac theory is just a theory, one built on coincidence and stretching what counts as a certain animal.

Look, maybe there isn't a fire wolf in Japanese folklore, because maybe Fennikin isn't supposed to be a dog at all. Also, people would love a wolf for a starter; who said otherwise?

I think "inspired" by the zodiac is more accurate. Cyndaquil is described as a fire mouse in the english translation and a porcupine in the japanese. Both are rodents, just like the rat. Fennec foxes are part of the canidae family, just like dogs, and are closely related (and Game Freak probs didn't want a third fire dog after Growlithe and Houndour).
Personally, I don't think they intended to follow the zodiac (I doubt they expected the games to get more than 1 generation), but they got lucky with the 2 first being a decent fit and has loosely kept it up for fun. Fuecco might be the first to properly stray from the concept, unless a crocodile can be considered close enough to snakes, since they'reboth reptiles. But we'll see what it's evolutions will look like.

And oh yeah, I hadn’t even thought of the Fire Starter Chinese Zodiac theory in a while. In fairness, Cindaquill as the rat and Fennekin as the dog were already stretching it. But there’s no crocodile in the Zodiac, so this may be the one to finally put the theory to rest.

You know, I was on r/pkemonmemes the other day, and when someone made a meme about Fuecoco not fitting the theory, I actually saw someone announce for the entirety of the internet to see that they would make whatever stretch and assumption was necessary in order to keep the theory alive. I even saw someone say that Fuecoco would have an awful design if he didn't fit the theory.
Seriously, just about every zodiacer that I talked to has acted like a little kid. Actually, no, little kids are mature enough to not think this is a problem.

I’m choosing Sprigatito for Scarlet and Violet. It took me a while for me too like the other starters too but I ended up liking them too. May end up using one of them in a challenge run like a Nuzlocke.

Niantic have never removed a spawn actually (delibird is a seasonal spawn) they just never released it. We don't have Kecleon, Arceus, Kyurem's fusions, or Zyguarde either.

Honestly, a pokemon game in Australia would be pretty kick ass, i could see it being similar to sinnoh in that pokemon original to the region would evolve at higher levers, same being said about the regional variants, like a mon that would evolve at one level could also evolve at a higher level. it would make an everstone very important.

I want a regional variant of Paras and Parasect / Joltik and Galvantula where the fungus is spread throughout its body, referencing the weird fungus that was discovered mined controlling bugs to infect other bugs.

A mouse is not a rat and Cyndaquil being the "Fire Mouse" Pokémon doesn't make any sense anyway, given the facts that
- it's designed after porcupine, echidna and hedgehog traits
- has their most defining features, the quills, in it's English name
- and it's original Japanese name, Hinoarashi, is literally a combination of the words"Hi" and "Yama-Arashi" - "fire" and "hedgehog"
With the new region being really warm, dragonflies love the warmth so it makes sense for Yanma/Yanmega to be in Scarlet and Violet! Also with the region being based on Spain please GameFreak, base a city off Barcelona… That would look incredible!😍

I think they should have one game that uses pixel art and let's you transfer any pokemon you have in it just for battling.
The only reason I want a national Dex is just so I can make my dream teams for battling, so if there was a spin off title where you could put in all the pokemon you've trained for the sake of battling, that'd be all I'd want.
(The reason for the pixel art is that pixel art doesn't age, so as long as they're all the same resolution you'd never have a pokemon look out of place.)
So something similar to the old Pokémon Stadium games except 8-16 bit artwork to save on memory space?

@@SuperIsaiah I love pixel art too. Especially the 16 bit era or even 32 bit pixels which look much better than the clunky polygons. Also pixel art does show its age but it’s one of the those things that brings a sense of comfort and nostalgia. Like oldies music where it’s old and you know it’s old but it’s also good. Or like an older model car. It’s visibly old but is visually pleasing. Pixels are old and beautiful.

When I saw the starters, I immediately went for Sprigatito, but by the end of the day, I knew Fuecoco was the Gen 9 starter for me. That thing would not leave my thoughts. Its design is so intriguing. It's cute in a very strange way. And it doesn't hurt that Fire is my second favorite type (after Electric).

Quaxly's my favourite of the 3 but I love all of the starters in general. Can't wait to see their evolutions. I'm one of those guys who wouldn't care either way if Sprigatito was on all fours or bipedal. I also hope we get clothing options immediately cause Arceus knows I don't want to be wearing *that* for more than an hour.

5:25 I do definitely think the dex cut will be an overall good thing in the long run with Pokemon not needing to worry with programming in every single creature they've made in the game. Unfortunately SwSh had to take the bullet for later gens.
Yeah. If they did it in Black & White, it would be better. Especially if XY still had its huge 450 Pokemon Pokedex literally next generation. And by the time of Sword and Shield everybody would be just fine with having only a small fraction of the Pokemon available in each game.
I think the dex cut is fine, as long as you can obtain all the Pokémon by any means on switch, with 3ds eshop servers shutting down next year it’d be kind of fucked if some Pokémon were just completely unobtainable

It's such a shame that the Switch is so much weaker than the 3DS (that could handle 807 of the critters) even with them reusing all of the pre-existing models.
Part of the fun of Pokémon (at least for me) was collecting all of the 'mons and being able to use them in future games. Along with trying out the newer 'mons.
What's even the point of introducing new Pokémon if they're going to get rid of them in the next game? (Whereas a small selection of "old favourites" will be in nearly every title. Because circular logic is circular.)
I'm not asking for all of them to be catchable in a single game (although that would be nice). But they should at least allow players to transfer in the ones they already own.
Even if the issue is PvP, they could just have two different formats. One for the Regional Pokédex and another for the National Dex.
Maybe with proper banlists (in Ranked) for the more powerful 'mons.
But still allow people to use what they want in casual/friendly matches.
But I guess that's too much effort for Planet Earth's largest media franchise.

The theme differences are so important to me. Make the different versions feel more different! Like Black & White. The names of these new versions make me hopeful, being color terms again.
As for the national dex, I miss having smeargle to catch shinies and all of the old starters. Greninja after being shown as the most popular pokémon ever just to be shoved out the whole franchise immediately was a crime.

Greninja is the most popular Pokémon ever because Ash-greninja. if it wasn’t for ash-greninja he wouldn’t have been the most popular. It probably would have the most popular for a year, not ever. The most popular Pokémon should’ve been Charizard because he is iconic.

So like in Adventures it was actually Ruby (Brendan) that made Sapphire (May)'s outfit which is just her Ruby and Sapphire outfit. But like during the whole legendary crisis plot Ruby refuses to help, and Sapphire stops wearing the clothes he made for her cause she's like super pissed at him. When they make up, Ruby gives her a new outfit, which is basically just her Emerald outfit but blue.

The zodiac was out way back. Regardless of the dex designation, Cyndaquil was never a mouse, but a hedgehog, Fenniken is a fox, not a dog, Litten isn't a tiger, it's a cat, and Fuecoco's a Crocodile. It was always a stretch to think they ysed the chinese zodiac to decide their fire type starters.
Litten may not be a tiger, but Torracat and Incineroar are.
Actually a male crocodile is called a bull. So if you want to make that stretch you still can.
I'll let you have the Fennekin and Cyndaquil thing, but you can't just act like Litten doesn't evolve into Tony the god damn *TIGER*

If you’re counting out the Incineroar line for Litten specifically, then you might as well count out the Charizard line too since Charmander and Charmeleon are a salamander and a lizard respectively

Gimmick will have to do with fusion of moves supposedly, think quick attack and thunder wave, mix them together you get a now electric type version of quick attack with the added bonus of a chance of paralyzing. That’s what the star symbol is representing because of the fusion process stars undergo to remain stable and form helium by combining two hydrogen nuclei.

@@SnoFitzroy honestly as an Australia I feel very cheated that 3 Australian animals have been put in 3 different regions, all being very different from Australia, Kangaskhan from Kanto, I don’t remember where kanto is supposed to be in Japan, but whatever, then heliolisk IN FRANCE, which feels very wrong, though I guess the frilled neck lizard is also in Papua New Guinea. Of course Komala the koala appears in Hawaii of all places…. I feel so cheated that they can’t just make an Australian region
@@Cebeileo Kanto is literally based on the real life Kanto region in Japan. The original idea was to maintain a sort of illusion of Pokemon taking place in the real world. They dropped this notion beginning with Gen 2 though with the region being based on the irl Kansai region being renamed "Johto".

I really like looking back at the development of overworld pokemon the last few games and seeing the progress towards this open world style game. I don’t try to get to hyped up for games but i’ll excited to see how they pull it off. Please include overworld shinys too 🙏
