This video taught me two important things: 1: DMC3 is a technical marvel for how much depth it has while only being a PS2 game 2: I will never be good enough to do anything stylish in DMC3 lol.
u will and you can. honestly most the shit you see on youtube is modded and not practical. the whole combo an enemy into the air if you look only looks cool. I recommend looking into jump canceling with trixter and shotgun for a start. If i can do it so can you. other than that you just need to pace yourself.
@@Saltymedpac8008 agreed, you just need to learn the mechanics slowly and practice a lot I have 80 hours on DMC 4 with Nero and I already have done Bloody Palace, it was an entire odyssey, it was hard but I did it, I learned a lot and my playstyle has a huge difference between the start and the end, it was an incredible evolution, honestly I'm very proud of it I'm not good as pros but I really feel like one so, if I can feel like I'm the fucking king of that game even if I'm not the best playing Nero, I know you can get good as you want
one tiny detail i don't think people talk about enough in dmc3 is how vergil sheathing the yamato actually boosts your style ranking it is such a satisfying little thing
One mechanic in dmc 3 that no one really notices is that each weapon on Dante(doesn't happen for Vergil) gives a special effect when you are in devil trigger state, Nevan gives increased healing from devil trigger, Beowulf gives more defense and makes you have more stagger value meaning attacks won't disrupt you as much, cerberus gives you more running speed, agni and rudra gives more damage to their element damage, and rebellion gives stat boosts like damage and speed Also, Vergil is one boss in dmc 3 that you don't want to use high stun value attacks on unless he's in devil trigger so you can knock him out of it, meaning you shouldn't use cerberus against him as it does very little damage while stunning him a lot, when Vergil stun value is reached after attacking him when he's vulnerable, makes him block your attack and start attacking again This is why speedrunners of dmc 3 use Beowulf starfall attack on Vergil if they can as it does the most damage while not having a lot of stun value
Thank you. I took Cerberus into the fight because I didn't take the time to learn Agni & Rudra, so with Rebellion/Cerberus being my weapons for the first fight, and Vergil's new weapon functioning similarly to Rebellion, I felt kind of compelled to intentionally recreate the first fight. ...Obviously, this did not work.
@Damsen dmc5 and 4 give you devil trigger unique attacks though, something 3 doesn’t have. Vergil has multiple moves he can only use in DT and Dante’s stinger and kick 13 change when you are in DT. Dmc3s DT effects are just stat boosts most won’t notice The gothic atmosphere in 1 also craps on the one in 3 since it was originally supposed to be an RE game.
vergil blocks after 13 melee hits, or after too much time passes people spam killer bee divekick on him because it's a high damage repeatable single hit
@@Aidan8N nope not completely true, just tried spamming high time and helm braker with rebellion only for Vergil to immediately start blocking on like after the 5th hit Once again, stun value on attacks still matter Both helm breaker and high time are meant to juggle enemies into the air and knock enemies over, when using against vergil who can't be knocked over or juggled, all it does is decrease his stun value before he blocks again
One extra thing, Dante's costumes that makes him use Sparda's form while in Devil Trigger locks the DT effects into Rebellion's, including the red effect.
I can't believe of how much I'm still learning from DMC3 after all these years. I always wanted to learn how to properly do combos in the game and this video definitely helped increased my knowledge
One little thing I've always liked about DMC3, is how Dante and Vergil's DT change appearance according to the devil arms they're using. Really cool feature they should've kept it. Edit: Nevermind, i just found out why they change.
Dmc 3 is surprisingly very tight still, and ages every year like a fine wine, no limit to what you can do. With the free style mode on switch, the game rises to new heights.
I thought you gonna talk about shotgun glitch. When you press dt and shotgun fire in same time makes your enemies fly back to you, it's cool mechanic for many setup's.
People who say this combat is bad are probably people that praise Souls Combat like hitting one button besides roll everyone once in a while makes you a gift to the planet.
DMC5 has since became my favourite but nothing will ever top things like emo-scene Dante, giant dogs that literally gatekeep the game from you, guitar swords that shoot bats (along with all the other amazing weapons), the homo-erotic Jester and the brilliantly crafted rivalry between Vergil and Dante. This game has aged perfectly.
Yo that's sick. For as long as I played 3, I never knew that. Most I knew about enemy DT was the added bulk and damage. That part made sense to me on why DMD is the preferred mode to do combos. Cool to see that it goes much further than that.
*Casual Players:* Uuuuurgh too many numbers let me just do the up slash on the enemy and hit them in the air *Fighting Game players:* Wait, you're telling me this doesn't have hitstun decay or gravity scaling? Everything is cancellable? *Time to cook.*
I genuinely appreciate you taking the time out from pure enjoyable spectacle to put out genuinely informative vids like this. You did a good job going into deeper/not-so-obvious mechanics of DMC 3, providing a clear-cut example and explaining them in terms a layperson could use to wrap their head around. It's some nice educational spice sprinkled on top of the entertainment.
It’s actually really cool to see you go more in depth on talking about mechanics like this. Knowing how the game works on a deeper level definitely makes you appreciate all that goes into making combos more.
Its videos like this that make me appreciate DMC as a whole even more than I already do, while also simultaneously understand and begrudgingly accepting why there's so few character action games as is, let alone this air tight. The amount of technical know how behind stuff like this is kinda insane in how deep it goes.
Not only does he do amazing combos and funny af shit posts but he's also got a nice voice. It's also all here, nice work bro! Educational too, I knew this was a thing but didn't know how it worked I'll have to try this out 😀
DMC4 Inertia is the one everyone knows about This sounds a lot simpler, which is super cool I always thought DMD was just mode where Combos weren't allowed.
If dmc6 ever happens i would like to see an alternative training mode that lets you start doing basic combos and then as you progress the combos become more difficult, short of like challenge mode in guilty gear or blazblue.
Dude, I've been looking for this video for ages. I always wanted to understand how combos worked in 3, but could never find an in depth tutorial. Thank you for lending us your expertise, amigo!
How very specific, despite DMC3 being basically my favourite game of all time, I had no idea about these specific mechanics. Seems so oddly complicated, especially the values as the same could be achieved with less, but I guess having specific moves specifically fine tuned with these specific values allow for more depth. Pretty cool
Thanks for this been struggling with DMC3 recently (although it's mostly a skill issue) and stopped playing it for a short time. A little surreal for me to know about something simple yet highly effective because it feels like the kind of content if you shared or talked about back when the game came out, or a few years after, people would either not believe it or the pros will be eager to test it immediately then feel like the special 1% who possess sacred knowledge on how to be a combo god. This'll be fun to experiment with :)
This was discussed in the dismantling book and forum a long time ago, but after so many years, it is discussed again in the 3rd generation 。You did a good job, not blindly switching styles to reach the combo, but knowing the enemy's armor through the Origin mode, and keep working hard.❤

I find this very interesting cause it seems you can do the best combos on Dante must die. Even though they put mechanics in to prevent you from comboing in this mode. Its way different from DMC 4 for example where most enemy jump out of your combos on DMD. Great video!
The mechanics of this game are amazing. Jump canceling is insane, switching between weapons to cancel the combos, and busting through an enemy’s DT Armor as I call it always felt insanely satisfying when you just juggled them until they explode into sand lmao

I've honestly started with DMC1 as a kid and understood nothing, replaying the DMC series I started with DMC5 and got bored. After replaying it, I started at DMC1 and made my way up to 5. DMC1 is the game that taught me that using Devil Trigger in a combo is actually sometimes essential and I use it in almost every combo leading up to even DMC5, even in DMC3 I used the D.T Stun mechanic especially on DMD.
Nicely edited video. I've been wondering how DT stun values worked for a long time and you've explained it pretty well. Hope you do some more videos on less obvious DMC3 tech to spread the knowledge on this game
I just love this game and series. I'm unable to perform complicated combos, my mind just doesn't work fast enough and only managed to beat dmc 3 at hard difficulty but this game is majestic and still my favorite. great video and thanks for the explanation on theese mechanics.
I've been waiting for someone to make a comprehensive video on this subject because it's such a hidden tech. Nice job Beeg. This mechanic on top of being underrated give 3's combat more depth than most might realize. DMC5 is great, but I've noticed a lot of the modern fanbase assume 3 doesn't have much depth to its combat simply because it doesn't have as much moves. The classic Truestyle Tournament MAD days of 3 are missed, because they easily prove this wrong. Brea, Blowhard, 475, & Schnee are some great examples of 3's depth, and they're some of the top DMC3 players ever. The cool thing to me is most of the players mentioned & a lot back in the TST era could be this stylish in DMC3, and they didn't even use style switching/freestyle.
Crazy how much I can still learn! Even after having cooked the game more than 30+ times, I feel like a noobie sometimes But this is also why I love this game so much. There are so many little details, so many little secrets, so many things to unlock and discover, to explore. It really holds up so well after so many years. The undisputed King not only of DMC games, but of hack 'n slash games ever, possibly. My favorite game of all time
Great work here, Beeg. I'm innocently watching the vid and I'm like...this sounds familiar! haha - Lookin forward to more of your work!

Sick. Time to play dmc3 again
Insane stuff. Its my favorite game too. Thanks for the tips, booting the game back up rn.
loving every second of this video
It felt like I just attended a lecture in "Devil May Cry 3 Combat and Mechanics" and loved every minute of it 😂
Thought he was gonna talk about the fear mechanic for a second
Crazy how much I can still learn!
Even after having cooked the game more than 30+ times, I feel like a noobie sometimes
But this is also why I love this game so much. There are so many little details, so many little secrets, so many things to unlock and discover, to explore. It really holds up so well after so many years. The undisputed King not only of DMC games, but of hack 'n slash games ever, possibly. My favorite game of all time
Amazing editing and great teaching skills, wanted to replay DMC3 again now !😎🤘
