DT Explosion is your best friend in the game, even in DMD. It's especially broken when you combine it with the Super Sparda costume and Quicksilver. Step 1: Activate Quicksilver. Step 2: Charge up DT Explosion. Step 3: Deactivate DT and wait for it to recharge to full. Go trough steps 2 and 3 over and over again, and you're pretty much golden.

I used to be so good at this game. That was a decade ago, maybe even more now. I was close to SS rank everything on PS2. I was dropping S or SS ranks like it was nothing, even on DMD. I'm going through DMD again right now and even with the Super outfit, I'm just getting kicked around so much. I guess I'm getting too old for this lol. I'd say that, the most annoying thing for SS ranks, especially on DMD, was the damage requirement. In DMD, you get hit once, you can say goodbye to your SS rank and restart the mission. The 0 damage requirement was very annoying indeed, and I'm glad DMC 4 and 5 did away with it. Mission 8, I did everything perfect, I went through the enemies stylishly, didn't get hit once, basically, I ate the Leviathan for breakfast... and still didn't get an SS. Why? What happened? Uh.... oh right, at some point, during the mission, somewhere, I happened to step on an acid pool for a nanosecond, which took a pixel of my health away. THAT was why I didn't get SS. Absolute bs if you ask me 🤷♀

DMD will have you combo a dude for 12 minutes straight just for him to still be at 75% health after hitting him with 23 Real Impacts + 31 DT explosions. Fuck Mission 6, 15, and 19 specifically. Also if you've never tried the style switcher mod for the PC version of the HD collection, then I highly recommend giving it a try it makes the game 100X better than it already was and there are a bunch of settings you can tweak around with like skipping straight to bosses, having Air Hike as a core ability instead of locked to certain weapons, change how fast DT depletes the meter and a bunch more even switch between Dante and Vergil on the fly by clicking the Right Stick for crazy combo potential.
17:55 when i was a kid like 10 years old i beaten this mission without super suit but after 4 hours i think, without using any items i was more angry over final vergil which took a week to beat in this mission i just learned that trickster op gives invincibility frames and beowulf + spiral is broken with cerberus if you chain it good enough you can do crazy dps
Mission 18 on DMD with the chessboard had me lose my sanity, I suck with royal guard timing so I just used Super Dante and Nevan Air Raid spam for like an actual 20 minutes before getting through. The Quicksilver strat does seem better so now I feel kinda dumb but at least I'm through with DMD.
2:42 This is actually valid. Vergil is really good for speedruns due to him having DT off the bat and you can use summon swords while attacking, but his moveset is woefully simple in this game. DMC4 and DMC5 Vergil is where it's at.

damn I feel really good by finishing DMD without even finishing very hard (i didn't knew that we can get infinite DT before DMD to be fair) first + almost not having any issues with any kind of boss except for beowulf. rebellion, beowulf, jump cancel almost 50% of the time, ebony&ivory, spiral, abusing DT explosions by taunting to build up DT, trickster was my go to setup, and it was pretty much easy just long fights.
It’s funny if Vergil was able to make this super powerful shield around him using the Yamato how the freak he keeps losing to Dante. In dmc 5 it’s so powerful that 99 percent of players honestly thought he was unbeatable in the prologue. Because it takes a lot to break it. Then if you do manage to break it he can recharge it in a few seconds lol

I heard that Jump Cancelling in 3SE HDC was hard because of the delayed input (not sure if disabling VSync will help) unlike the standalone DMC3SE's quick input reading which is why speedrunners prefer the latter.
i can't believe you got through the chessboard without DTE, i got my ass handed to me for an hour before i learnt what it was, i then proceeded to DTE the king only because if you destroy some pieces all of them go into DT, DTE on the king does like one or 2 bars of his health the rest i depleted with beowulf.
I think Very Hard is generally more fun as a final dificulty than DMD. DMD really feels like Super Costume dificulty. Specifically because you need DT explosion to negate enemy DT so much. Very Hard feels like a proper max dificulty for normal Dante. (Also I agree Dante >>> Vergil). The best answer to the Fog enemys is Gunslinger charge shot since you can turn around and 1 tap them. However I get why they are hated since Gunslinger isn't a popular Style at all.
@@magicschoolbass I imagine DMD in the Switch version is a lot more fun since you can always have the counter pick Style and Weapon avaible. DMC3 biggest issue is the counter pick enemy design.
Kudos to you for doing this. I did this as well, but SS Ranked everything and it WAS NOT fun in the slightest and made me hate videos game to the point I had to take a huge break from them. I think I permanently damaged finger joints attempting this madness. When I stepped into DMC4 Special Edition, I just gave up after seeing the insane trophy requirements for this game after beating it on Normal. The fact that S ranking DMC4 SE makes collecting most background orbs (including hidden ones) AND getting the no damage bonus tantamount, all the while UNDER A TIME CONSTRAINT which makes 4 makes it as bad or even worse than DMC3. I wish you the best of luck if you are going to attempt DMC4 someday. 4 starts being stupidly unfair once you hit Son of Sparda difficulty which is utterly ridiculous.

On top of the requirements that I previously posted, you have to do this with EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER, finish every boss fight on SoS difficulty with Stylish meter on SSS, AND beat Bloody Palace with everyone on top of that. Even worse, you NEED to beat BP once with an S rank and beat BP Floor 101 Dante WITHOUT TAKING DAMAGE. His AI and damage output are set to DMD mode. Plus, you cannot cheese this with the Infinite DT costumes due to a 0.2× score multiplier penalty, drastically reducing your scores on ALL MODES. Chimera seeds, Cutlass/Gladii, Frosts, and Blitz demons will be the bane of your existence in all difficulties.
@magicschoolbass Just no damage from boss Dante on Floor 101. But even then, that's extremely difficult because he loves cheesing and countering you every chance he gets. The only way to beat him is to cheese him. However, even that's also heavily RNG.
if you still play this game a good way to practice jump cancelling is on the mission 2 boss by using agni and rudra or beowulf (use Y and and x on the boss) shotgun works as good practice too

10:25 Action games are largely defined not by your moveset, though it is a huge part of it, it's actually the enemy design. Look at these hunched over little freaks who can barely stand up to Dantes chest. They're very janky to try and jump on which is why in later games they made the enemy hitboxes much larger in general. DMC5 had some pretty big mobs but it was in favor of the combat system. Look at how wide and tall they are in DMC4 and 5 compared to a simple Pride or god forbid a Lusts hitbox. It's harder because the enemies moved way more erratic often just jumping for seemingly no reason, especially Lusts. So despite it being the same Dante the enemies are always the biggest difference between these games down to the most basic features such as Enemy Step. If you ever pick up these games again take note which enemies are harder to jump off of and why. Whenever you see combo videos of DMC3 it's always on Sloths because you can juggle them and they're nice and big so plenty of things will hit them and jump off easily. Try that on a Lust and you'll end up having a harder time
I think it's more of a timing issue on my part, but I like that they made enemies bigger, aside from gameplay functions, it is more fun to juggle big bois around

Because it's really hard and after beating VH in game you've opened exactly a super costume before go to the last challenging DMD difficulty.
Tbh I really used super costume for S ranks because of the movespeed. Spamming Stinger is really not for me. Perfecting the game is cool, but I am a UA-camr and consistency is important. If I took more time to practice I would have delay the video further, plus in the end of the day my goal is the achievement. I get your point doe, I might do a full no items, no super run, but for my own enjoyment later

Kudos to you for doing this. I did this as well, but SS Ranked everything and it WAS NOT fun in the slightest and made me hate videos game to the point I had to take a huge break from them. I think I permanently damaged finger joints attempting this madness.
When I stepped into DMC4 Special Edition, I just gave up after seeing the insane trophy requirements for this game after beating it on Normal. The fact that S ranking DMC4 SE makes collecting most background orbs (including hidden ones) AND getting the no damage bonus tantamount, all the while UNDER A TIME CONSTRAINT which makes 4 makes it as bad or even worse than DMC3. I wish you the best of luck if you are going to attempt DMC4 someday. 4 starts being stupidly unfair once you hit Son of Sparda difficulty which is utterly ridiculous.
I will try to do 4 obviously, but seeing all the things people tell me about it, I am very scared now

@magicschoolbass THINK LONG AND CAREFULLY before you decide to attempt this. On top of the requirements that I previously posted, you have to do this with EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER, finish every boss fight on SoS difficulty with Stylish meter on SSS, AND beat Bloody Palace with everyone on top of that. Even worse, you NEED to beat BP once with an S rank and beat BP Floor 101 Dante WITHOUT TAKING DAMAGE. His AI and damage output are set to DMD mode. Plus, you cannot cheese this with the Infinite DT costumes due to a 0.2× score multiplier penalty, drastically reducing your scores on ALL MODES. Chimera seeds, Cutlass/Gladii, Frosts, and Blitz demons will be the bane of your existence in all difficulties.

@magicschoolbass Just no damage from boss Dante on Floor 101. But even then, that's extremely difficult because he loves cheesing and countering you every chance he gets. The only way to beat him is to cheese him. However, even that's also heavily RNG.

if you still play this game a good way to practice jump cancelling is on the mission 2 boss by using agni and rudra or beowulf (use Y and and x on the boss) shotgun works as good practice too

10:25 Action games are largely defined not by your moveset, though it is a huge part of it, it's actually the enemy design. Look at these hunched over little freaks who can barely stand up to Dantes chest. They're very janky to try and jump on which is why in later games they made the enemy hitboxes much larger in general. DMC5 had some pretty big mobs but it was in favor of the combat system. Look at how wide and tall they are in DMC4 and 5 compared to a simple Pride or god forbid a Lusts hitbox. It's harder because the enemies moved way more erratic often just jumping for seemingly no reason, especially Lusts. So despite it being the same Dante the enemies are always the biggest difference between these games down to the most basic features such as Enemy Step. If you ever pick up these games again take note which enemies are harder to jump off of and why. Whenever you see combo videos of DMC3 it's always on Sloths because you can juggle them and they're nice and big so plenty of things will hit them and jump off easily. Try that on a Lust and you'll end up having a harder time
I think it's more of a timing issue on my part, but I like that they made enemies bigger, aside from gameplay functions, it is more fun to juggle big bois around

Also, are you aware of the YK2 silly mod that recently got released? Its fucking amazing, one of the best yakuza mods ive ever played. Heavily recommend playing YK2 again with that mod installed, its such a silly experience.

P.S.S.S. Theoretically maybe DMD in these game you should beat with super costume. Because it's really hard and after beating VH in game you've opened exactly a super costume before go to the last challenging DMD difficulty.
Tbh I really used super costume for S ranks because of the movespeed. Spamming Stinger is really not for me. Perfecting the game is cool, but I am a UA-camr and consistency is important. If I took more time to practice I would have delay the video further, plus in the end of the day my goal is the achievement. I get your point doe, I might do a full no items, no super run, but for my own enjoyment later
