    Well done great video. The island of Ireland has great potential for new heavy rail projects.

      And heritage rail in tandem with Greenways if we really become aware of all existing and former rail networks

    Nice to see Belfast Central coming along nicely in the stock footage.

    Fantastic video. A crying shame of the several decades of neglect on rail investments in Ireland, spending hundreds of billions more on tarmac and developers, trapped in a cut throat dependancy on oil, on roads and in a climate crisis. Plus partition

    Can anyone explain why they had to repeatedly lock and unlock doors every time the border was crossed, regardless of the presence of intermediate stations? It seems very odd to me.
    Also was not the Common Travel Area in existence from 1923, so why would this be necessary?

      The CTA didn't exist until the good friday agreement in the 1990s

    • @fundthenine
      @fundthenine  6 місяців тому +1

      The hard border still had customs checks and allowing a passenger from the ROI to jump off of a train as it passed through NI would mean they would avoid all border checks and would enter the UK illegally.

      @@CptnPhasma It definitely existed since the mid 1920s, it was suspended during WW2 and for a while afterwards. The current rules extend from the GFA era yeah.
