- This week I found a new favourite book of all time, the weather sent me the snowstorm of my dreams & in general spent the week wrapped up as a blanket burrito. I'd love to know if you guys would like to see a whole video on Turn of the Screw and if so, what sort of things you would like to see in it or talked about! Hope you all had a lovely week

She's so much cheaper than therapy
This is gold.
I love the calming nature of your vlogs, especially after having not the best of days :’)
💛💛
I agree!!!
I very recently found out that my grandfather is ill with covid and I just needed the warmth and calm that your reading vlogs radiate... Just wanted to let you know how much a simple video can affect someone who's feeling this down and how much comfort they can bring ❤️ I really want to thank you for that
I am sorry about your grandfather. Hope he recovers and gets back to his health. May God protect him and give him back his strength 🙏❤️
I’m so so sorry to hear that, sending you and your grandfather so much love, we’re all thinking of you💛
thank you all so much ❤️ your kindness is overwhelming
hoping he recovers soon
I went on a Henry James stint earlier this year. He's one of my favorites. I'd love to hear a full video on Turn of the Screw.
When you started to talk about knitting I was like "wait what?" because I'm actually knitting as I watch this. 🤣
Ooh what are you making??
@@emmiereads I'm making a striped scarf in autumnal colours. I don't really know what the pattern is called in English. It's 3 plain stitches, 3 purl stitches and so forth. It's really fun and easy enough that I can watch or read something at the same time.
Literally watched almost all of your videos in one day.. I am just obsessed with your love for classics and I am also an English literature student. So high five.....
Turn of the Screw was one of my favorite read from last year and can't recommend enought to watch the Netflix series based on this book: The Haunting of Bly Manor.
It is a true gem and if you liked the Turn of the Screw you'll probably like the show as well. The atmosphere and the characters are so beautifully done. And it's not a horror or scary show at all I promise! It's so poetic and mysterious and sad and beautiful. Can't find the proper word to express how much i loved it honeslty!
Hi Emma! Thank you so much for making these wonderful videos for us. I am a literature student myself and I just love the way you explain you thoughts abouts the books you read, in depth, with an open mind, looking for the beauty in each work you read but at the same time very honest when you dislike some aspects about a book. You made me see how much books can mean for someone and how much they have meant for me in my own life. Because of uni, reading had become more a task than something to enjoy and thanks to you I rediscovered the live and passion I have for the simple act of reading, consuming stories and living the joy that beautiful words can bring.
Anyway, thank you so much, I love you x
A Little Princess is on my tbr but I haven't had time to get around to it! I love the movie too. I read The Secret Garden by Francis Hodgson Burnett earlier this year because its one of my favorite movies of all time and the book was ok.. I had some issues with it but enjoyed it enough lol.
I would LOVE a video of an analysis of "The Turn of the Screw"!!
Wish we had snowy weather where I'm from ☃️ your reading vlogs bring me so much happiness ❤️ loads of love and hugs xx
Your videos really help me with my anxiety. I'm always so looking forward to your uploads and your amazing book recommendations.
Haven't been home and met my family since March and your videos help me cope. Thank you.
Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy....that's if you find the phrase "have faith in what's most horrible"...compelling.
Can you please talk about how you are able to read multiple books at once? You are my greatest inspiration for reading ❤️📖
Hi - great reviews! I'm a bit late in commenting but thought you might find it interesting that my copy of The Turn of the Screw was printed 91 years ago, in 1930. I bought it when I was studying literature, about 55 years later. The small cloth-bound American Library edition, which also contains The Lesson of the Master, was $2.50 US in a little used books shop that no longer exists. ... Maybe it's time for a re-read? No highlighting, I think. LOL.
I'd gladly watch a video on the Turn of the Screw! I can sew, embroider and make lace but knittting completely eludes me! Good luck with this journey, I hope you can make yourself some lovely warm things!
Yessss please do a full review of Turn of the Screw! I've been following your vlogs and got inspired to by the book for myself. I'd love to hear your thoughts after I finish as well.
Your videos are always a delight!
I would love to hear you read more poetry out loud or even just passages from books because your voice is so soothing ❤️hope you have a lovely day/evening/night
I really love the music you picked for the snow blizzard clips!♡
omg my parents use to have that exact cd player and i just got transported to my childhood. wow.
Please do a video on the turn of the screw. I am reading it right now and would love to hear an in depth discussion and analysis of the book. There is so much to unpack there..
I love hearing your thoughts on Addie LaRue! V.E. Schwab is one of my favorite authors, so when my copy of Addie LaRue arrives it will be interesting to see how I feel about it! Love your videos Emma
Yes please make a video on turn of the screw! I read it last month and I think I really missed out on a lot because the writing was so hard for me to understand since English isn’t my first language but I still found it so beautiful and I’m super interested in hearing about everything you saw in the book :))
Omg the Addie larue is 3 star from me. And i too struggle with their writing.
Great plot... Its the only thing that keep me going.
But the writing seems too edgy for 1700s parts.
Yes to the video dedicated to The Turn of the Screw 😆 lovely cozy video as always and glad that you’re able to spend time with your family 🖤 mine is in Mexico so who knows when will be able to travel freely again 🤷🏻♀️
I‘m so jealous that you have snowwww!! 😍😍
I love your channel and. I know is focused on books and I loveee books but I would like to see more like morning routines and daily vlogs, room tours etc... as well💛 I think you are so nice and down to earth
Video!! ❤️ It was really interesting to hear your thoughts on the Turn of the Screw. I am glad you loved it. It is definitely an intriguing read. I love how you discuss the paranoia of the governess and the sense of despair in the novel. The feeling of dread and uneasiness is definitely well implemented and portrayed. I would have wanted a less abrupt ending, however, I can see why it was done the way it was. I hope you are doing well ❤ Have a great day Emma n.n
Your videos are like a warm hug, somewhere so cosy that I know I can just relax 🧡 I'm hoping to read turn of the screw before the DA book club and I'm looking forward to it even more now after hearing you talk about it! I'm so pleased you're able to see your grandma again - I know how hard it was for me not seeing my grandma and grandpa who we are incredibly close to. Sending hugs and smiles to everyone 🧡
Omg! It’s snowing again! So happy for you haha
i loved the music you used in this vlog! ❤️
Watched few of your vlogs and they are really calming! As a non-fiction reader would love to see a video about the non fiction books you have read! much love 💕
Oh no I’m hesitant to read Addie LaRue now because I find that style of writing very hard to get through as well. Must give it a try and see can I bear it 😅
Your vlogs are amazing please keep up your amazing work please stay safe love 💖 from Australia and I am really jealous of you being able to be in the snow ⛄️
Ooh, I just ordered House of Salt and Sorrows a couple hours ago!
I can't wait for the turn of the screw video!!!!
Please do a whole video about the tots 💓
Your filming intros are great!
Please do make a whole video on Turn of the Screw!
Would love to see a video discussion on the turn of the screw❤️
Emmie! We're currently reading Henry James' "The Golden Bowl". We hope to do a review of it soon! Love your channel! Stay toasty!
I gave Addie LaRue the same rating. I agree I didn't really like the writing. But I liked Henry ❤
I do think Entwined is better than A House of Salt and Sorrows (I gave both 5 stars though). Both are beautifully atmospheric, but Entwined has more dancing which is honestly the most important aspect of a 12 Dancing Princesses retelling.
Thanks for the review of Addie, one to cross off my 'to buy list'
I actually finished The turn of the screw a couple of days ago and you have really amazing insights. I enjoyed it, it's pretty short though.
Hi 💛 Love your videos! Your comment on Addie La Rue made me think about Claire North's "The first fifteen lives of Harry August" - have you read it yet? Might be a good book to pick up once you 'forget' about Addie (as I suppose a few things would be very similar and it might not be what you feel like reading right now). Happy readings ^. ^
Thank you so much for this amazing video, it literally made my Sunday evening (here in Europe)! Sending you warm hugs, keep being awesome!
Eep I’m so glad, I hope you’re having a lovely evening 💕
I'm reading Peacock's Nightmare Abbey for the third time, and I can't recommend it to you enough. It's such an entertaining Gothic piece. Think Castle of Otranto but purposefully grotesque 🖤 It's really short and I'm sure you'll get through it quickly!!
I just love your videos so much, they give such a calming and comforting vibe. It is definitely a needed vibe in those hard times. I wish I could spend some time with my grandmother, but she lives in another country, and because of covid I can't travel to see her like I used to. Keep Safe!
I would love to hear more of The Turn of the Screw!
Love you, Emmie. 💕
I finished Addie LaRue a few days ago and i'm so confused, i liked it but at the same time there were some elements that didn't convince me
Oh gosh, that snow! So cosy. I’m afraid I missed quite a bit in The Turn of the Screw, maybe having watched the series first made me fill in gaps that I shouldn’t have...
Ah lovely Sunday afternoon treat! I'm just starting out making bookish UA-cam videos and your content is a real inspiration :) I wrote my dissertation on The Turn of the Screw - such a fascinating book.
That is unbelievably cool, there's just so much to discuss in Turn of the Screw, I kind of just want to start reading it again immediately!
what an amazing view of winter, greetings from peru
your glasses fogging from the mask, I felt that :/
Loved the vlog really enjoyed it
There is an anime series called Princess Sarah based on The Little Princess which I remember watching when I was a kid and really liking it. I had been meaning to re-watch it and then I saw you mention the book 😄
I usually don't write comments. But I just want to say this - Emma, you and your videos make our days a little bit more brighter. They feel like warm hugs that you're sending our way and I hope that these little reminders of how happy you make so many of us makes your days a little brighter too. I am just glad that all this mindless scrolling through You tube videos finally led me to your channel and technology has made it possible for people living in different parts of the world to be able to see your content. I wish you all the best for all your future aspirations. Stay happy and healthy ❤️😄✨⭐
PS - After looking at this comment (essay), I think it's clear why I don't usually write comments 😂
Hey hello again! Been missing of hanging out with you (thru your vlogs/videos). I hope you're doing/getting well/better!
Emma i read the same way u read with bookmar one line at a time. It really speed up the process as concentration increases and it also prevent eyes to accidently spoil with other paragraphs. Highly recommend .
Where did you get that blanket poncho thingy it looks so cozy? ☺️
Emposia Blankets!
gah! forever cursing youtube notifications for always being late with notifying me! but, I love absolutely adore your personality, Emma. I love how you are always honest, even if you aren't feeling that great (I hope you are feeling better lately :) ) but, it makes you a youtuber that a lot can relate with.
Amazing video. 😊
I'm just doing an Em-marathon of older videos and waaa the short hair djdjdj I almost forgot about it ❤️
how did you find the writing in addie larue in comparison to a darker shade of magic? i was super let down by the writing in adsom because everyone hypes it up so much and i found it so mediocre and boring.. so i'm not sure if i'll like this one. but i love the concept of addie larue ah! i just don't want it to be another v e schwab disappointment for me
Addie Larue has such an amazing concept but it just wasn't for me. I did enjoy it, but it wasn't as good as I had expected. I just feel like it is a very hyped book in my opinion
The friend's reference 😭
I love your cozy vlogs Emmie! I've been very moved by all of your Rilke quotes lately. After Letters to a Young Poet, what Rilke do you recommend reading next? And which editions do you think every Rilke lover should own?
All the best...ever read Silent Snow ,Secret Snow?
I love snow too...
I'm so glad you liked The Turn of the Srew, I loved it too. It made me think a lot of what was really happening. I can't wait to the discussion of the book for the DA Book club. By the way I started reading The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue yesterday thanks to you and Ciara haha
Omg where do you live - it’s already snowing...?😯
Have you watched The Haunting of Bly Manor on Netflix? It's FREAKIN GOOD. I've never read Turn of the Screw for comparison, so it's now on my TBR - very near the top of the pile.
I think I need to dust off my copy of Turn of the Screw and give it a whirl.
It was amazing!
I love this book I need to revisit. ❤️
I’m still watching your recent video atm and you uploaded another one, yesss!! luv u btw ure awesome
guilty as charged - I've yet to find a simile I wouldn't use. As for the governess, well, she does write a good story, no? Anyway, looking forward to Saturday's show on Ciara's channel.
Never heard of annie la rue
winter is coming they say
I literally love your vlogs they always have some kind of good vibe! And I have one question-where are you from?
Thank you so much! And Canada
The Snow-Storm
BY RALPH WALDO EMERSON
Announced by all the trumpets of the sky,
Arrives the snow, and, driving o'er the fields,
Seems nowhere to alight: the whited air
Hides hills and woods, the river, and the heaven,
And veils the farm-house at the garden's end.
The sled and traveller stopped, the courier's feet
Delayed, all friends shut out, the housemates sit
Around the radiant fireplace, enclosed
In a tumultuous privacy of storm.
Come see the north wind's masonry.
Out of an unseen quarry evermore
Furnished with tile, the fierce artificer
Curves his white bastions with projected roof
Round every windward stake, or tree, or door.
Speeding, the myriad-handed, his wild work
So fanciful, so savage, nought cares he
For number or proportion. Mockingly,
On coop or kennel he hangs Parian wreaths;
A swan-like form invests the hidden thorn;
Fills up the farmer's lane from wall to wall,
Maugre the farmer's sighs; and, at the gate,
A tapering turret overtops the work.
And when his hours are numbered, and the world
Is all his own, retiring, as he were not,
Leaves, when the sun appears, astonished Art
To mimic in slow structures, stone by stone,
Built in an age, the mad wind's night-work,
The frolic architecture of the snow.
I’m loving gothic novels at the moment too, I’ve recently read Castle of Otranto and I’m currently reading The Romance of the Forest by Ann Radcliffe. Have you read it?
Is it too late to ask for a video for Turn of the Screw? It is one of my favorites, too. I feel like you and I are so similar. Can we be pen pals?
So interesting to hear your critique on Addie Larue, considering all I've heard about it is how its writing is its strength! My main beef with it (which you've probs already heard from me in a different video) even though I haven't read the book is how Schwab barely addressed diversity elements, given the concept of how long Addie lives. I won't go into detail but apparently it's not something most people notice unless they're... not white lol
you make my day
"Have faith in what is most horrible". That quote is interesting. I have suffered loss before, and although it's been a while now, grief still comes up spontaneously in varying intensity. I wonder if you were able to apply that to your own traumatic experiences, Emmie?
Why does being first being you validation?
Where are you from?
First comment from me
Where do you live?It seems so beautiful😍
Canada :)
Where do you live?
Canada ☺️
im in love w you pls date me
