Got to ride behind the nkp back in 97 with the whole family while my uncle recorded it rode from Nelson crossing to the downtown depot and back such a fond memory
Wow, I didn’t know that 587 visit the MRM, those were the better days! That’s awesome, thanks for the info. And I can’t wait to hear 587 will be back along with C&O 2716 and RJ Corman’s Old Smokey 2008 soon.
Christ those Valve Rings are shot to hell! Listen to that Groan and Squeal! That poor engine needed rings and probably liners terribly! (And some investigating into the Lubricator...) I don't think I heard the squeal in her final years of operation so they may have sorted it by that point. But either way, she's in good hands now and anything that needs doing well get done with Kentucky Steam taking care of her.
@Paul Jones If that were the case, then they would have cracked long before they arrived at Monticello. They would have been dead in the water with severe damage to the valve cages. What I hear is Steam blowing past them at certain points in the revolution, which indicates wear.
Thanks for showing this.
Love it, thanks for sharing this classic footage!!
Nice to see footage of 587's visit to Monticello on UA-cam
Remember being there to see her.
I knew 587 went to Monticello but didn't know it was there that long
Huh, had no idea 587 visited that museum, now I do.

@@Theliquidsun48 Who knows? Maybe a future gathering of Kentucky big steam with 587, 2716 and 2008 one day!
@@brianfalzon6739 what I meant is that once

I can’t hear what you hear….what does it sound like?
@@pauljones2762 glad to see you are still alive and kicking! Charlie Daigh was a good friend of mine. Miss him terribly and think of him often.
Honestly I quite like it it sounds unique to her.
