There is something about seeing these celebrity actors' faces on the screen for a hundred times that makes it all so... unbelievable. I guess that's why I like to watch some obscure European stuff - at least I have no clue who the actors are.
I agree. Hollywood should let these A listers go home and count their money, while giving new blood a chance. It would probably make far better movies.
It's just weird. Of course I know most of these people are good actors, paid their dues and all that, but still - you want to go "What a cool story about two guys in the Dark Ages", and not "Hey look at Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in the Dark Ages". And when that keeps happening again and again, over decades... I don't know. It just doesn't feel right at all.
@@ultramimo Well said. I think one of the things that made Game of Thrones (for example) such a success was there were really few A list actors in it. The success of that series did vault some relative unknowns into superstardom, but at the beginning the show allowed the viewer to get into the story without overly-familiar faces (with Sean Bean maybe being the exception, but I think in his case it worked out fine).
@@Frankie2012channel True, but the movie is about Jack & Rose. The Titanic merely being a backdrop. Same with Pearl Harbor, Fury, and Der Untergang. We don´t know the destiny of all main characters, hence the movie isn´t spoiled in advance. In that regard, this movie is more like Apollo 13.
Just watched this movie. I thought it was great and an interesting show of 10th century France, and the bleakness of what people had to trudge through. Overall loved every part of this movie. This movie action take place just after the Black Death were Europe lost from 30 to 50% of is populations. And it was in the middle of 100 years wars. So a lot of subjects to treat…
All wamen are somehow victims and they never cheat or lie. This movie demonstrates white male privilege and toxic masculinity. LMAO!!0 No, but seriously... This is all part of Matt Damon's apology campaign to female activists, because he stuck up for Harvey Weinstein 10 years ago or whenever.
Am I the only one who finds it kind of weird how the trailer clearly makes it seem like the woman is the main character, not just because the trailer gives her the most lines and screen time, but also because of the text saying "One woman defied a nation and made history", yet the thumbnail is a picture of Matt Damon, and the text in the post says "First trailer for The Last Duel starring Matt Damon"?
It doesn't have to be nefarious -- with that approach they appeal to the widest audience, women and men. Hollywood does engage in social engineering, but not to the exclusion of maximizing profit. Indies maybe, but the corporate entertainment machine is profit driven.
“One woman defied a nation” is in no doubt completely ahistorical too. Nobody called countries nations back then either, France was known as a kingdom only.
I'm sure Jodie Marie Comer worked at my local Tesco superstore on Mather Avenue here in Liverpool. Who would have known that she'd end up acting with these Hollywood A-listers. So happy for her and hope her career continues to blossom!

Cross there's not a whole lot of ways for stretching here. In reality, Adam Driver's character (Jacques LeGris) allegedly raped Jodie Comer's character (Marguerite) and nobody believed her when she said what happened so Matt Damon's character (Jean de Carrouges, her husband) challenged Jacques to a duel. They duel, and Jean de Carrouges kills Jacques LeGris. There's really not much room to bend the story.

Yeah I think so u gonna have the whole movie waiting for it to all unleash bec the fight scene looks killer
From what it looks like in trailer it's two hours of shouting and one fight in the end.
There are flashbacks to when they used to fight wars together.
"So should we have the actors speak with a British accent or an Amercan one?"
..."Yes".
This is French setting though.
Ye it's french setting but made in Ireland
@@deandillon3465 both, in France first and after in Ireland
There would have been a shit ton of dialects and languages actually spoken. It makes sense just to have people speak mostly how they normally do irl.

COOOL!!!~ Matt Damon, bringing back the MULLET!! Now I can feel stylish out in public again!!!
Ridley Scott: The Duellists (1977) was an amazing movie. I have high hopes from this one!
Old Ridley's finest work to date. Always loved his historical biopics aside from the usual scifi genre. 🍷
Ben and Matt back again in this , JLo and Ben back again, this world is coming full circle.
In a long line of stupid fantasy props being passed as historical, that half helmet design is sooooo above and beyond anything that came before. It is almost admirable.
Well what would we do, should we not be able to see the brave faces of Men.
@@MarieAntoinetteandherlittlesis there are open helmets, which would not be super accurate either, but at least it would not be stupid . But id like to point out that we dont get to see their amazing abs either, should we get rid of the arnour entirely?
It's so bizarre that I kind of love it
It's not a documentary.....
kinda defeats the purpose of a helmet.
Let's spare a thought for the poor horses in the real duel , one had its spine severed by Jacques Le Gris axe and the other had its intestines spilled all over the arena .
They where committed at least
In a time where there were no animal rights. They were treated the same as cars.
@@flipchuck I haven't seen a duel to the death with cars though. An axe pulling out a convertibles hydraulic system whilst another ones in the corner with its ECU ripped out
I just looked up the history on this. Matt Damon’s real life character won.
Demolition derby would be as close as you could get to a duel with cars....my point was, back then, the horses weren't always treated with kindness like today.
Pretty good movie.Ive enjoyed same story seen from 3 different points of view. Also huge bonus point,no joggers in sight. It so rare and refreshing these days.
Whoever or whomever made this trailer deserves a pay raise
Ridley Scott directed four of my favorite movies:
4. "Exodus: Gods and Kings" (2014)
3. "Blade Runner" (1982)
2. "Alien" (1979)
1. "Gladiator" (2000)
I look forward to seeing his new film, "The Last Duel" (2021). It looks fabulous in my opinion!
my 4. would rather be Kingdom of Heaven, a true masterpiece!
@@philippekogler Thank you! I enjoyed Gladiator but never had any desire to watch it again. Kingdom of Heaven is better for all its flaws.
Exodus is way underrated. Fucking awesome stuff there. Excellent cinema.
@@philippekogler Ridley Scott has provided so many stepping stones for people's imagination of the medieval world.
@@draculawolfman1502 He should continue historical movies as there are mcuch too few of them. But there would be lots of great topics or periods for newe series to work on. Just think of: War of the Roses, 100 year War, Third crusade with Richard Lionheart or Caesar´s Battle of Alesia.......
Wow. A medieval metoo story. Historical yet still so relevant.
Scrolled a long way for this joke😂
Total laugh out loud.
Perfect comment Alfred.
By the way... How old are you with a name like Alfred.
She was much more brave than #metoo women, because it doesn't take her 20 years to stand up against her oppressors. Actresses from #metoo movement first built theirs fortunes and after 20 years they admitted that Weinstein was abusive. This movement should be called #toolate.

what a strong, beautiful and necessary movie! Jodie Comer performed wonderfully again!
Was expecting Toby Maguire and Robert Downey Jnr to appear at any moment, it looks like Satan’s Alley and with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon together I thought it was a comedy. Trailer literally tells the whole story 🤷🏻♂️
Upon first view I thought the blond bearded potentate was Ben Affleck.
The book really ruins the whole movie. Everything is in there. even the ending!

Fresh from killing monsters in China, Matt is now in a sword and shield drama. If its free, I'm interested. So speaks Titus Clevitikus.
There is something about seeing these celebrity actors' faces on the screen for a hundred times that makes it all so... unbelievable. I guess that's why I like to watch some obscure European stuff - at least I have no clue who the actors are.
Agreed. I feel like the talent pool is deep enough so that someone a little more novel can play the part.
like European Dark Age fights.
I live where they filmed this and I saw Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer, and Ridley Scott
Lucky you!👍
You forgot ben Affleck
It was filmed mostly in France though.
Cool story bro

@@Frankie2012channel True, but the movie is about Jack & Rose. The Titanic merely being a backdrop.
Same with Pearl Harbor, Fury, and Der Untergang. We don´t know the destiny of all main characters, hence the movie isn´t spoiled in advance.
In that regard, this movie is more like Apollo 13.
Jason Bourne, Batman, and Kylo Ren in a medieval true story epic. If we haven’t seen it all, we’re about to. This October… 🤣
🤣😂😅
Just watched this movie. I thought it was great and an interesting show of 10th century France, and the bleakness of what people had to trudge through. Overall loved every part of this movie. I'm now more interested in how economies worked and that it seems most wars are motivated by debt. What an absolute horrendous existence, that I think we are still in.
Not the 10 century....it was in 1386 AD
This movie action take place just after the Black Death were Europe lost from 30 to 50% of is populations. And it was in the middle of 100 years wars. So a lot of subjects to treat…
All wamen are somehow victims and they never cheat or lie. This movie demonstrates white male privilege and toxic masculinity. LMAO!!0
No, but seriously... This is all part of Matt Damon's apology campaign to female activists, because he stuck up for Harvey Weinstein 10 years ago or whenever.
Try the 1300s.
There is no greater horror story than the tale of man... this is horror perfection!
Because their shitty feminist propaganda would be dismissed by everyone if they didn't disguise it as a medieval thriller starring a famous actor.
@@kevan1206 Hmm.
@@thumper9633 No, they're just trying to paint over this woke mess and hope nobody will notice until after they've paid for the film.
I'm sure Jodie Marie Comer worked at my local Tesco superstore on Mather Avenue here in Liverpool. Who would have known that she'd end up acting with these Hollywood A-listers. So happy for her and hope her career continues to blossom!
It's a joy to see a true great of cinema finally working with Ridley Scott.
No matter what film Matt Damon is in...
He's still Matt Damon.
it's hard to get around. he just does not transform into other characters as well as other actors. Hard to take seriously (same for Affleck).
Nico Rosberg down the spotlights again! 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Great cast, especially Adam Driver who is proving he is just fantastic at acting. I'm tired of these Movies that say "Based on a true story" because well we all know they stretch far from the truth. Aside from me complaining, I still want to see this.
Free based on a true story
Keyword "Based"
Cross there's not a whole lot of ways for stretching here.
