I think the corresponding word for the 2nd use case (positive surprise) in English is when people say 'why' (even though it's not used as often). For example, "why, this is a lovely idea"

We also use sour to describe people in English. A person can be sour (bitter about something) or just generally sour (like a grumpy old man who always complains). And we say "sour grapes" if someone is jealous about something another person has.

Love your clips and only just started watching them. I note that German words are strung together to make one word and the best to under it is to break it down into their original Noun.
I have 3 various lessons going at this time and one was talking about the Restaurant settings Vorspeise, Hauptspeise & Nachspeise. It was when i was watching this clip that I spotted the word HauptSpatze that the lights have gone on.
German is so confusing but I am slowly picking it up and I am appreciating every clip I can find so Danke and will keep following for more. Tschuss.

I come from a German community in the US and we also use the word "sour" in English to mean grumpy or angry. "Don't be so sour!" or even better "Don't be such a sourpuss!" 😆
