I once worked on the Icelandic island of Heimaey exactly ten years after there had been a major eruption that almost buried the island. There was a field of lava right outside where I worked and it was as still warm. After a decade.
Seeing the results of a volcano up close is amazing. I'm sorry I couldn't return and see one of the recent eruptions on the Reykjanes peninsula. I used to hike that area back in '83-84.

I hadn't realised it could take decades for a lava flow to cool down- several years, yes, but not decades. But it might explain why the two lumps of lava I collected from the inside of a lava flow on Etna were still unusually warm to the touch when i picked them up. I know they came from inside the flow because they were solid rock, without the vesicles of scoria, and with larger crystals exposed. They were dark coloured, so might have been heated by the sun, but to me they felt a little too warm for that to be the reason.

2 years ago hunga tonga haapia reupted and spewed an atmospheric river of water that may take 10 years to exhaust. And a scientist said, we have never seen anything like this. Probably happens every 100000 yearrs or way more, we simply don't know

We have it here in the Philippines. Taal volcano... Smallest but the history said it was once a big volcano that erupted and collapsed. Now a volcano in a lake, a lake in the volcano. And under alert level one . Very active.

Just as Africa is pushing into Europe from the south resulting in Italy's volcanic activity, i wonder if south american plate is pushing north into mexico - in conjunction with pacific plate from west, anyone know?

Volcanoes are one of the many reasons we need to start building only Tower cities connected to maglev Trains. And every city needs to start growing food indoors, vertically, with artificial light. Growing food like that is already being done. And building only T&T will save millions from floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, and CARS, roads, existing lead pipes and paint, and pollution of every type, poverty, and every cause of death.
We need to end capitalism, the insane wage. And we need EQUAL wealth worldwide.
