Leave your question for Brennan Lee Mulligan in the comments, and you could see him answer it our interview with him this weekend !
When monologuing as one of the primary NPCs, especially the main antagonists, are you creating specific lines of dialogue before the session or are all of these memorable quotes improvised (ex., "To reach a hand down to somebody, they have to be beneath you. I am beneath nobody.")?
What are some of the key narrative elements that you use to build tension in a world you know will end tragically for your players?
Question for Brennan: Will we get Bolo backstory?
definitely on the questions list
can you destroy?
This your house?
This bag tries to argue with me
I don't think so. Bcz Avalir fell at the start of the Calamity, and Aeor fell in the end of Calamity.
Important question for Brennan: If Bolo was a bird, what kind of bird would it be?
What is Bolo?
Question for Brennan how strong will the characters of downfall be.
Yes yes!! What level are the players going ti be?!?!?!
PCs from EXU: Calamity were Level 14, so I would hazard a guess that they would be at least that level, if not higher
Question for Brennan: In returning to this time period, how do you hope to differentiate it from EXU: Calamity? Also, what is your snack plan for the sessions?
Great question, and one we will definitely be asking!
Question for Brennan: How long after EXU Calamity did Matt approach you about Downfall, and how quick was your acceptance?
a great question!
Question for Brennan: Avalir and Aeor seemed to be rivals. Can we expect links from EXU: Calamity or is this a new story on it's own with no links? Would love to see Bolo's hometown!
We too need to know more of Bolo!
Question for Brennan: Since in TTRPG we can portray divinity however we like, knowing for sure that the deities we add to our world WILL be there in some way... What would you say is the most important aspect about adding/playing gods in a campaign?
Oooo...another very interesting question for the list!
@@TheCharacterSheet Thanks 😊
Question for Brennan: What's your favorite 5e class? What are some of your favorite builds?
Another very interesting one!
Question For Brennan: I really appreciate that Dimension 20 has featured numerous RPG systems outside of D&D: What do you look for in a game system when coming up with a new season?
P.S. Thank you for visiting the UK!
(Apologies if the questions needed to centre on EXU, wasn't clear from the context)
another great question.
Question for Mr. Mulligan, if you’re still taking them: what is your favorite part about being the guest DM for these stories?
For Brennan: How/where do you keep finding new inspiration for so many different worlds and stories? and what are your different focus points when worldbuilding for both long and short campaigns? Also can we please get more stories from child Ame in grandmother Ren's hut in Worlds Beyond Number, and more ACOFAF for D20? 👃
Another excellent question!
In a short series like Downfall and Calamity pacing is extremely important. You have to fit a lot into a short amount of time. How early in the production process are you coming up with big set pieces. Did you know who the characters were before you came up with the major plot points you needed to hit or did the major beats get changed when the players came up with their backstories? How do you balance player agency with the realities of a busy production schedule.
More great questions!
Question for Bran- are we going to get a glimpse of any of the survivors of calamity? And if so what part will they play in downfall?
Also something we are interested in knowing!
Question for Brennan: We know his love of food. What is his Hoagie order? Mine is a turkey hoagie, provolone cheese, extra mayo, lettuce, onion, sweet peppers with banana peppers on occasion.
Question for Brennan : with the way Downfall was introduced, as told by Ludinus, should we expect an "unreliable narrator" ? In other words : will you create discrepancies between the way Ludinus tells the story and what actually unfolded ? And most importantly : thank you for all the joy you brought me !
Do all Aeroians (Aerowegians?) speak with the same accent that Bolo had?
Will we see FCG in his original role?
Oooo...a great question!
Question for Brennan: do you purposefully encourage archetypes & poetic tragedies into the arcs of critical role players? (I ask because this seems to be what makes Calamity such a stand out campaign, and really brings the best out of critical role players).
Question for Brennan: Purvan Suul was an exciting cameo in EXU: Calamity. With the Prime Deities being more involved in EXU: Downfall, may we see the fate that led to the Raven Queen's former champion's death or inheritance of the Deathwalker's Ward?
For Brennan, We know from parts of C2 that Aeor was not exactly a bunch of squeaky clean good wizards. Will the party of downfall have more evil leaning personalities? And can you say if all of the party are original characters or are some previously existing characters?
For Brennan: Any chance you or anyone from the D20 cast will cameo in the VM or M9 animated series? 🙂 And would you like to see EXU: Calamity animated someday?
(I'm still finishing C1 so I can't ask about the lore sorry 🫠)
Hoping for a full Bolo back story.
same!
Been wondering what if Predathos is being held hostage to keep a far more powerful entity from coming to Exandria?
The Cataclysm as devastating as it was, caused the warring gods to realise one of the Over gods had noticed interfering on a minor level causing them to panic and imprison what we call Predathos to whom that entity is a loved pet.
So they release Predathos only to find out it isn’t a god killer but it’s owner is justifiably pissed at them!
Sorry just a thought about where they could go with this.
Question for Brennan: With Downfall taking place during the Calamity, and EXU: Calamity before, how has your prep shifted focus between the two Epics. Also, how dose it feel to not only be in the writing room for a titanic event, but also put your own spin in it?
For Brennan: Who are your favorite Gods from Exandria?
My question for Brennan is how in the hell do Matt, abria, and Matt plan for these it seems crazy for me
Question for Brennan: We knew there were multiple floating cities. Do we know how many floating cities there were in total, and was Aeor the first to fall after Avalir?
am looking forward to your gm-ing EXU again. My question is how do you start planning where to begin and how do you plan out from there? With the area, the players, the story, the ending?
Question 🙋🏾♂️: What snacks can we expect to see Brennan having during this epic story?
QUESTION: Brennan, did you get to pick your players?
Q4BLM: The dome and the crit role set both are technical marvels that allow for an almost submersive level of immersion. Can you describe the differences in performance of each set? Are there any stage tools that could further enhance the experience or are we at the zenith of stage craft for actual play?
Can we know in the downfall wrap-up what real-life cultures or countries inspired Aeor and Avalir.
Also Aeor seems to be a more malicious and militarized out of two cities. What historically led to that?
Will Bolo be making an appearance in EXU: Downfall?
Question for Brennan - you could argue that Bolo's archetype is explored and subverted in Never Stop Blowing Up. Are there any other action movie archetypes you think would be fun in Exandria, Calamity times or otherwise?
This video is everything!
Question for Brennan: Will we ever see a Zach, Emily, Laura and Sam one shot?
My question for Brennan is: will Bolo make an appearance in EXU Downfall? ;)
Question for Brennan: Patia's orb made it to Aeor didn't it? (its yours again man make it a thing)
? For Brennan. Was there ever a time you went back n rewatched one of you live plays and were reminded of something you forgot??
I really needed this summary. The big picture of the campaign 3 story has been really difficult to follow.
The calamity did not last for 150 years. It actually went on for centuries. EXU Downfall takes place about 100 years into the Calamity.
Question for Brennan:
What levels are the down fall characters?
What characters do expect/expected to see the players bring to down fall?
Is a TPK a possibility in down fall?
Q4BLM: Can we have more Starstruck Odyssey, please? (Would you consider casting a random fan , possibly with a screen name that rhymes with Vinny Vegas?)
What is the hardest/cringiest player you've had to deal with or was there ever a game you had to "nope right outa here" and why?
Why is the channel calling it EXU Downfall? I haven’t heard CR call it that. It’s just the Downfall arc of C3. I get the connection to Calamity for sure.
Because the last calamity event was also EXU, and we are mainly doing it because if you just put "Critical Role Downfall" fans think you are making some kind of anti critical role video and hate bomb it without even watching to find out lolol
I believe EXU is when a guest GM is running the game... can't say for sure though.
Are they officially using the Exandria Unlimited branding? All of the advertisements for it are referring it as standalone special that is also part of CR C3 since it is episodes E99-101; it's not being advertised as a new season of ExU. If they're not using the ExU branding, it that spinoff dead? The last ExU season (Calamity) was in summer 2022.
It is not a season of EXU. The members of Bells Hells are seeing a vision of the past, so it's part of the main storyline. Instead of Matt trying to describe what happened, in a very condensed way, we get to watch it play out and it's going to be amazing to watch!
@@Waterflame Oh I knew that it wasn't ExU but I missed that further down ComicBook explained that they're using ExU for SEO reasons. Still curious if ExU is a cancelled show; CR seems to quietly drop stuff but not announce cancellations (MAME Drop, Critter Hug, etc).
@@WandersEast To be fair, they don't seem to have a lot of free time lately, thanks to everything that's happened in the last 5 years!
But where is Bolo in all this?
E V E R Y dang time I see a video like this I start to get mad cause I think it's another "Critical Role is finished!" rage bait video LOL This name is so frustrating !
Yeah, we added EXU to it just for that reason!
