      Yes. Whisk the flour bit by bit into the water on the stove top. If you don't want to make papier maché, you can always make mushroom soup or gravy.

  • @threenorns3
    @threenorns3 4 роки тому +189

    Instead of going through all that trouble getting rid of lumps, it's best to gradually add the flour into the water, whisking as you go. Voila: no lumps. Works for gravy, too.

      This is what is also required for plaster. Always put water in container first then add powder gradually.

    Thanks for the video. It's been over 55 years since I used Paper Mache and needed reminding on how to prepare it! imo it ain't paper mache if you add PVA and other substances to it! This, the original way is Environmentally friendly and safe for our children!

If your comfortable enough with GIVING me a visual of yours (any or all) or if even just ccx a picture of tha rough draft or ANY samples/visuals of your finished mask(s) I'd be so grateful! I know some people or artists are uncomfortable,/ insecure scared, embarrassed or weary/weird its can be a number of emotions sometimes about there work I hope you're not one of those or I haven't offended you in any way shape or form because that is not at all what I had intended on doing I honestly just want someone's help with this particular project because I've been at it for an embarrassing 9 months and have came up with nothing short of garbage in a waste of materials and countless hours and really just getting frustrated in this is supposed to be my happy peaceful and therapeutic time and I'm beginning to not like it and I don't want the only therapeutic thing I have to relieve stress my depression social anxiety agoraphobia PTSD I dont want to ruin it or to be another thing I end up destroying it seems like everything I touch falls apart now I'm babbling so sorry for wasteing your time but I'm sorry I do need help please help anybody!! I used this recipe and tried to make a bulk batch. I did 5 batches, mixed it with a hand mixer and put it on the stove. I recommend low heat and stirring. It will take a little while, but you’ll get your dough cooking less. I never got mine to be as thick as hers, but it did work and my students paper machet owl 🦉 has its first layer on it 👍🏼 thank you very much

    To prevent lumps from forming, don't dump all the water in immediately. Do it little by little, and mix thoroughly.

  • @robinhenry4346
    @robinhenry4346 7 років тому +5

    I use a similar recipe and use kraft paper - rubbing the paste on to both sides. It makes for fewer coats and dries quite hard.
    I use a 1:4 ratio and cook the mixture longer so it's more like pudding.

    You'll get fewer lumps if you pour the liquid onto the flour while stirring/ whisking.
    (I don't think I can use this recipe for Papier Maché as it most likely will smell a tad too much like food. My dog might end up eating it 🙂 )

    Hi! Thanks for the great info. Does this stuff dry clear? I made some paste similar to this (flour sifted into water) a while ago and I used it with brown butcher (shopping bag) paper. It dried with a thick white film on it. I was surprised. Any advice?
    I need a mixture that dries clear.

    • @redtedart
      @redtedart  5 років тому +2

      No, I would say it is slightly yellow. If you want clear you need to use a glue/ water mixture

    • @Mandy138Cool

      Old comment, I know, but I have always found that using water that has been boiled will result in a clear coat. I use an auto coffee maker and it has always been clear. Cold water (unboiled) will result in milky coating.

    I have a huge project coming up that I want to get done for Christmas, it involves paper macheing about 50-75 balloons. How much of this will I need lol. And how long does it take to completely dry for painting?

    • @redtedart
      @redtedart  5 років тому +1

      Oh! That is a LOT! This little tub and small cup is probably JUST enough for one balloon! So I guess that time 70? And the drying time varies on the humidity of your room etc, usually around 3-5 days. Your project sounds exciting! What are you making?

    • @Droosmom1970
      @Droosmom1970 5 років тому

      Red Ted Art i do a Christmas candyland in the yard every year and I try to add one or two items to it each year. This year is a big bag of jelly beans! Paper macheing the oblong type balloons which will be the jelly beans, then putting them in a big clear plastic bag and slapping a jelly bean label on the bag 😄 Not sure it will work, but im hoping!

      oh ok

    • @MichaeltheRatMan
      @MichaeltheRatMan 4 роки тому

      So the paper mache is mostly dried now, and I must say it worked fantasticly! The wheat flour is a bit more chunky than the white, so if you want a smoother result white is the way to go. Also, try not to let any harden on your hands as it is incredibly hard to get off. After just 1 layer of paper it is incredibly solid, and I don't think I'll have to do many more layers for the result I want. This is a great recipe and I will definitely be using it again! 10/10
      I hope this helps :)
