Note: We've recently discovered that both DAP and Wurth joint compounds can be used to make paper mache clay, as long as you use Gorilla Wood Glue instead of Elmer's. All other parts of the recipe should stay the same. See these two videos for more info:

Ten years ago I became frustrated with traditional paper strips and paste. It took too much time to add all those layers of paper mache, and it was messy.
But I wanted to sculpt, and paper mache was the only affordable option.
That’s why I created this original (and still my favorite) recipe for paper mache clay.
It’s affordable.
It uses common ingredients that you can find at your local DIY store or Walmart.
And anyone can use it to create beautiful sculptures that we can be proud of. This is not the kind of paper mache you made back in grade school!
I put this recipe for paper mache clay on this blog and on UA-cam about ten years ago. It has now been used by millions of people around the world.
You use a knife to apply paper mache clay in a really thin layer over your armature, almost like frosting a cake. It dries hard and strong, so sculptures made with it can be treasured for years.
This is the recipe I used for all the projects in my book Make Animal Sculptures with Paper Mache Clay. amzn.to/1nMUO3a

I honestly have no interest in this topic but I am so glad I clicked this because this lady is just the sweetest human ever
"Nigel... Nigel... where is all the toilet paper?" ( I step out from kitchen wearing a life-size elephant mask and say) "No idea?"
“mom do we have drywall joint compound?”
Why on Earth is there 500+ down votes? Some people must be very petty, or exceptionally jealous. As a sculptor myself , I give absolute props to Jonni for the heart and talent she puts into her sculptures. Paper mache art seems to be undergoing a resurgence here in Ireland lately. It's great to see.
You are an incredibly generous artist for sharing your techniques and recipes with other artists. Thank you so much for giving me an outlet for all of my suppressed emotion. I love sculpting, but clay is too expensive. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Inspirational. Much needed, much love🤙💙
I have no idea how I ended up here but OMG you are SO extremely talented! Makes me want to try this
Need more pure creative content like this in the algorithm. Too much junk gets tossed around in people's feed they need more mentally stimulating videos to watch and spend their time on
Are your sculptures waterproofs with this receipe? 😮
This is my favourite part of the internet- that we can use it to share our passions, and to teach and inspire each other!! Makes me so happy!
DAP jointing compound contains ethylene glycol. When mixed with PVA glue cross-links are formed which accounts for the little rubbery balls you described. A little like adding borax to make slime.
I really appreciate the consideration of viewers from outside the US. No other American channel does this.
Watching someone who is clearly experienced and enthusiastic talk about their passions is one of the best moments in life. This is so cool!
I just wanted to say that you seem to be such a pure, kind and generous human being who shares your videos for the pure love you have for art. You aura radiates through to my screen. As I think it does for many others. Both my daughter and I are so excited to use your tutorials. Love and light
That's not being lazy at all, that's called being efficient. Time is our most precious commodity. Awesome video.
I made a paper mache rhino for my son's four wheeler that we took to a parade. Nobody knew how it worked. When I told them my son was in there driving, they were shocked. Definitely one of my proudest moments. I used nail polish for the eyes and it really made them standout.
I like the way you make the tutorial videos, you even consider the people outside of the country that possibly won't have the materials needed. It saves a lot of time. Thank you for the detailed guide!
"I use toilet paper exclusively. Because I am lazy."
I love that the bunny was giving you “bunny ears“ the whole video! Too cute! I was cracking up! 👏👏👏. Great video!
I fell like I conquered the world when I got this recipe. 🤭 My diy, crafts with the kids, with the youth just upgraded to a whole another level! ✨💞 Thank you thank you thank you! Love from Finland 🇫🇮
